Question...I know your focus is getting to the bottom so you can spear whatever is there before it hides, but when you spear one on the way down wouldn’t it make sense to grab him so he doesn’t drift out of the area?
AS7, sometimes, depends. A lot of times the falling fish will grab the attention of other fish and make a second or even third shot easier. Plus, it's much more difficult to reload, maintain proper descent speed, line gun up for second shot and equalize with a big Black Grouper in your arms. In deeper water, it's not uncommon to have several different layer of varying intensity and even coming from different directions. The jug line could have one or several big S shapes in it. Great question. Best, Dan

@@danmacmahon3973 Understood and thanks. Thats a very efficient way of taking your prey. But its hard to understand why they allow grouper instead of amberjack. So it takes alot of experience to hunt them. Groupers are forbidden to hunt most of the times here as well. I'm curious to know why the fish are not spooked at all there? I can speculate that the places you dive have never been frequented at all by divers. Due to the fact that there is a very large dive area with stable depth. He also is Fishing under a Commercial License and is required to sell EVERYTHING he chooses to take to his Supplier . That Supplier says what he wants is Gags 1st , and then whatever else he has time for . The Gags he sells at about $5 - $6 a pound , and the Amberjacks sell at about $1.50 a pound . Amberjacks must be at least 3 feet long to be legal for Commercial Fishing , and those he takes weigh about 40 - 70 pounders ( so 40 x 1.5 = $60 to 70 x $1.5 = $135 ) . Nice video again Dan thanks, hey thought I saw some scamp down there...... I know they are smaller then the blacks but don’t they pay more?.... just curious
CG, I have a local machine shop make the casings and them make a few changes to them. The biggest problem is that a lot of slip on Manufactures incorrectly drill the rubber hose. With an unloaded PH, fully assembled, slide it onto your spear, if you can't slide it down so the spear easily enters the area where a bullet would be, than it's too tight and won't go off. The problem is the rubber getting compressed when forced into the aluminum holder, making the ID too tight to allow it to contact the primer to the spear point. Easy fix, simply run a drill through it while the rubber is fully inserted into the alum holder. Start with the first bit size up and experiment a little. Go up in size until it allows proper operation. Don't go too big or the Ph will fall off your spear. There's a fine balance between too tight and too loose but once you figure it out its pretty easy. Best, Dan
Well said Dan! Carmine genovese another thing is you have to be careful when using PH specifically on sharks you want a up close square on hit or it won't go off ..just make sure you always have a good shot when you pull the trigger thanks Brandon DFB OUTDOORS
