This is one of my favorites of your videos....The clarity of the water, the incredible variety and abundance of fish made it seem like you were hunting in an aquarium....Stay safe...Willie
Another great video. Way to focus on a single fish when surrounded by that many fish. I remember times I'd get fish overload and my brain lock up. Well done.
Hey James, I found that spot over 40 years ago, back then it was a complete wreck. It's gradually disintegrated to what you see today but it's still a fishy dive! Best, Dan
Tony, I think that's what I love about it the most, you just never know what awaits you done there. Pretty amazing stuff anytime you roll in! Best, Dan
awesome as always.... love waking up to a newly loaded video from Dan the Man.... one thing ive noticed in your videos that i leared a while back... i kept losing fish due to flopper closing. even on my setup with a line and having pressure against the fish i would lose them sometimes. seems like a properly tuned flopper is easily over looked but clearly detrimental when free shafting. that flopper has to stay open on its own... just a tip for anyone else out there learning like i am.... TUNE YOUR FLOPPERS lol
Another amazing video- please keep them coming! I have been spearfishing for over 10 years (generally out of Anclote) and learn something new with every video you post. Once you retire, I am hoping you will team up with Kevin Bruington to create a “Dan MacMahon Signature Series” spear gun. I would pay top dollar for one of your guns and know many others who would as well. Also, would you ever consider selling any of your numbers once you retire? Let the bidding begin! :-)
Thanks Bobby, I appreciate your comments. Kevin and I are pretty good friends and have bounced more than a few ideas off of each other! I'll def think about selling some numbers after retirement, quite a different concept after locking them in a safe for years! Glad you picked up a few tips, makes it all worth while! Best, Dan
Epic! Imagine if you had a semiautomatic speargun with six shafts!! Today was like you going to Publix fish market to pick them up. An extravaganceza of Gags everywhere. Currently checking out if to buy the GoPro Hero 8 for spearfishing. Need to make a list of all the stuff I will need plus learned the settings for deep diving, if course not your depths. I don't have an elevator fir that. Will check also how much to get certified on Trimix plus equipment. Stay safe keep them coming.
RV, one of the crew just bought a new 8 and dove it last trip, it worked great, no issues. I'm satisfied with my 6 and will probably never upgrade unless it dies or something mind boggling comes out. Best, Dan
Holy crap u killed it Dan, Full ring, come on with the top side video time. Your killing us lol, another great video brother, keep on killing and making that $$$
Nice video's. Might have to try spear fishing one day. My guess is it's one of those things where a pro makes it looks easy, and then when you try it you can't hit the broad side of a barn much less a fish swimming.
Man, that’s a haul and half. You just can’t do that without free-shafting. It just takes too much time to back the shaft out. I bet you enjoyed having a little more bottom time. There’s something to be said for shallower dives. Nicely done!
BR, thanks! Yeah I looked over and the computer said "24" and for a microsecond I was like "oh crap" , but then I realized it was TTG not DTM! lol. Best, Dan
GL, man that was an unforgettable scene! I remember watching it at the Theater and the next few times we went spear fishing, I kept hearing that music in my head! Yikes! Best, Dan
Dan, awesome videos. I think I’ve watched every video you have made. Question. What electronics are y’all running on your dive boat? Id live to be able to mark like y’all are on those small bottom shows! How deep was this video?
RJ, yeah I like the Ramp at Punta Rassa (Fort Myers), plenty of long spaces that will accommodate my trailer and a pretty good jumping off spot for the Tortugas, etc. Best, Dan
I noticed when you stick your fingers in their eyes they calm down or die. Is that some kind of Jedi mind control move or is there some science behind it? Great vid.
Im thinking he breaks the skull that way because i could hear a crunch while he does it, most just bring a knife and give it a quick stab in the top of the head.
He tries to place his spear where the fish is at least partially disabled by the excess weight in a place where he had no weight before . If you hit the head area , or about on the centerline most times the fish is disabled . The Freedivers seldom do that , and most of those fish would be lost if they did not have the line sticking through them .
Is there still a moratorium on true Gulf Reds? I know there was years ago and I'm too lazy to look it up. I used to mate on a head boat (Miss Barnegat Light) out of Ft. Myers beach years ago. We'd take weekend Tortugas trips. Usually 40 people or so. On slow days in early March, when fishing slowed down anyway, the Capt. would hit infrequently used numbers in short water (100-120ft). A couple spots were so full of Reds it was unbelievable. Personally, I'd rather eat mutton or porgy. However, I'm a seafood eater. I see food and I eat it. Thanks for sharing Dan, it's hellafun to watch you work. Stay safe!
Demo, the Commercial Red Snapper are on an IFQ program. The recreational Red Snapper are on a time system (I think somewhere around 40 days in Federal waters). I never fished on the Miss BL, but knew of it well. Funny that you say that about eating ARS, I never really cared for them either, a fresh caught Jolt Head is hard to beat. Really glad you're enjoying the videos. Best to you, Dan
Ha ha, that last gag showed up just in time to make the party! Nice video Dan thanks, hey was wondering what’s your plan for the Blue Wild in November? If this COVID crap is half way over I was planning on going and would love to see you again, my brother and I ran into you a few years ago over there, anyway stay safe brother, till the next video keep shootin!
Dan, I was wondering if you ever send your stringers up on sausages or lift bags etc.? I am unfamiliar with Florida spearfishing regulations, but we will often send up our fish to get picked up by the boat as we work ledges in NC. I would love to hear your thoughts and thanks for the great content!
DL, yeah and I caught grief for it when the crew cleaned it...probably something like "well looky here, it can't be, is this fish a** shot?" you know, good natured Ba** Busting. Lol. Thanks for pointing that out, def made me laugh! Best, Dan

Ive gotten better. This time i went with my own gun and that my dad would load and i shot a fat 24 inch red and 3 hogs. I also learned that spearguns float hahah. I try to shoot the same way you shoot with one hand on the Back. Love the vids.
NG, I speared a few years ago. We really don't have a lot of them up here , I might see a dozen every year. Plus I'd have to rig up a line shaft to target them and based on how rarely we see one, it wouldn't make sense. Best, Dan
As a recreational, topside hook and line fisherman, I was wondering what all of those fish are feeding on. I saw lots of hungry mouths, but little to no vittles to fill them.
Hey JR, that was during the winter and there's no real White Bait in this area during those months. Their bellies contain almost anything they can fit in there. Small flounder/skates, crabs, grunts, basically anything. I know they prefer sardines etc but they'll eat 'bout anything when hungry! Best, Dan
Thanks Tim. It's a home made gun we make ourselves. Roughly based on an older Sea Hornet but using better quality parts and tighter tolerances. Best, Dan

It varies quite a bit between the species but he targets Gags and other groupers mostly . Last I heard he was getting about $5.00 a pound weight gutted for the Gags . The AJ's he gets like $1.50 a pound but they have to be at least 3 foot long before they are legal to take if Commercial Fishing . A 3 foot long AJ will weigh around 50 pounds . Dan is required to sell EVERYTHING he collects to his supplier . His boat normally takes 3-5 day trips to save on total gas used .
