When you actually go back a see just how many cero Starrk shot off, it’s obvious the dude had an ocean of reiatsu. I just wish Kubo let him live, and Shunsui goes and visits him every once in a while to play strategy board games and drink sake. Eventually Lilynette reforms and is by his side again.
@@babyblue1443 That doesn't mean he has a limit. . . He even states that he can fire them practically endlessly. That statement means that it wouldn't hit them directly so there's no point in really using them.

@@babyblue1443 Fuck no. Each one of those ceros are as strong as ulqs. You have NO idea what you are talking about. Just a single hit was good enough to take shisui out of the fight. In terms of speed they can be somewhat dodged but that's it. In terms of raw power a couple hits is enough to deal with most high tiers and that's just his basic ceros. Obviously, he has higher level ceros which he even used against shisui who had to be saved or use his broken af bankai and forcing Shisui to use his bankai is a major feat in of itself.
Something to remember: Most Arrancar became Arrancar only through the Hogyoku. Stark did it himself. To escape loneliness. He broke the line between Hollows and Shinigami. On. His. Own. Those wolves are somewhat like the Final Getsuga/Letzt Stil ability. So he was probably also loosing power doing that. Which is why he stopped using it later.
Not quite, an Arrancar is a hollow that's survived breaking it's mask. It's a rare thing, but as well as Starrk both Ulquiorra and Barragan were also natural Arrancar. The blending of Hollow and Shinigami is a separate process that Aizen was performing simultaneously with the Hogyoku while also using the atrocity ball to keep the hollows together through becoming Arrancar. It is still an extremely impressive feat. Shinigami kill hollows by destroying their masks.
@@uncabob214no, ulquiorra is on a completely different level. He seems to be genetically linked to the primordial hollows. When he transforms for a second time his reiatsu becomes completely alien, and his poem also suggests that he came from the sand of primordial hollows. He is an arrancar in his base and first transformation, but in his second he goes back to being hollow like.

We the fans definitely needed more Coyote. And I agree that all three top Espada were played by Kubo. He definitely should did way more with them. The lack of content and feats is a major reason a lot of fans default favorite Espadas are Ulquiorra and Grimmjow.
I think ulqi and Grimm are just so much more memorable…Kubo did leave a lot of “meat on the bone “before moving on to the next arc. This is my favorite anime and like the 1st love of my anime life and i still cant really say which espada is my favorite if any of them 🤷🏿♂️. Ulqi and Grimm seem to get more screen time as well 😳
Anybody who believes Starrk was weak or unfit to be the Primera Espada simply needs to remember... -It took 4 Captains to bring him down -He made Shunsui Kyoraku seriously consider using Bankai -He threw the fight
@@dunebuggy1292it did take 3 of those 4 captains to heavily distract him from the main captain that being Shunsui. Plus Shunsui was thinking on using Bankai but Ukitake told him not to.
Personally, I'm convinced Kubo did Stark dirty because he realized that keeping him around would require him to radically change the core plot because of how insane he is.

By the hints that exist, Ulg is connected to the primordial Hollows, even whatever there was before, his power is just... alien to what exist in current time. Starrk is... a natural progression, he is chance being stacked until a being like him came into existence. He simply happened to get those powers but at the same time, because this evolution is closely tied to his human aspects he felt the weight much more. He is the perfect Hollow, the supreme Vastolorde, he is the pinacle of the evolutionary process of Hueco Mundo... and he would be anything else if he could.
@@Alacaelumthe ulquiorra primordial hollow theory has holes. Number 1, the 2nd release is confirmed to be able to be achieved thru training, so ulquiorra was never that lvl of strength originally. Number 2, since we know this, ulquiorra had to achieve his second release AFTER aizen gave him power from tge hokyoku which would be the only way ulquiorra would claim that aizen hasn't seen it. So that means, we can only judge ulquiorras original power based off his 1st release which is way too weak for that theory to even be possible.
From a writing perspective, Starrk’s death reminds me of Unohana’s death. In both cases, the character didn’t actually need to die if we look at the fight as a fight for survival. But because of their personalities, their goal is not actually to survive and they allow themselves to be killed in a fight they could have won right away. In Starrk’s case, unfortunately, there was a lot of anticipation in seeing the Number 1 Espada outperform every other Espada we’ve seen so far.
I agree with that assessment. People also under-scale both due to their showing and the result of the fights, not even considering they are both compromised in their respective fights.
@@vaiyt exactly, a fully unlimited Kimpachi was still being matched by an exaughsted and out of gas Unohana that kept nursing him back to health on the dime of her own spirit energy. Because of this, we probably only got to see her at some 20% lethality
@@ezramiller8936tbh, unohana constantly healing diminishing her rieatsu SHOULD NOT be taken seriously. This is a very miniscule detail that only popped up from powerscaling kids, and as we know, authors aren't perfect. Zaraki is confirmed stronger than unohana as a kid, so there's no reason to believe unohana would be that much stronger than fully unsuppressed base zaraki now.
@ghhbpolo Kid kimpachi was still stronger than the kimpachi we see fight gremmy (evident that his eye patch was on for the duration of the fight). It isn't really inconsistent with the scaling, so I'm not sure why anyone would pump the breaks here on her overall power. There's a reason I used the word lethality and not power.
Machine Gun Cero is enough for me to sing Starks praises. Right up there with Naruto making rasenshuriken out of the different tailed beast kekkei genkai and bijuu energy. The ability to make multiple of your verse's nukes is always mad impressive.
I'm so glad you and Clyde have both gone on to state how truly strong Coyote Stark was. I'd like to add, if you can consider Segunda Etapa a bankai for arrancar, might I posit that not only could Stark have such a thing in his grasp but perhaps went above it? Having a Zanpakuto spirit is something that is a privilege of Soul Reapers. Becoming an arrancar is the process of shinigamification, and there is nothing more emblematic of a soul reaper than their sword spirit, it comes before their shikai and their bankai. To become one with your sword is to go beyond bankai (shout-out ichigo) and I think this is shown really well with starks weapons. He is an enigma, a technological singularity when it comes to hollows. The most advanced thing we may see is a hafted weapon, a lance made of light, but a gun?! That's insane! EDIT: I completely forgot to mention, but Starks mastery of Cero combined with this convincing replica of a Zanpakuto spirit makes him, in my opinion, a mastery of both sets of strengths unlike any other. Ulquiorra may be a hollows hollow, but Stark is an Arrancars Arrancar.
The fact that Starrk can take Ukitake and Shunsui at the same time without getting a single hit despite both captains essentially being transcendent in battle as described by Yamamoto and then having countless hollows die from his passive spiritual pressure simply by being in his presence but number 2 Barragan was constantly surrounded by a court of hollows unbothered by his spiritual pressure shows the gap in power between the two and also shows that he is in fact Number 1 for a very good reason.
The hollows dying thing always came off to me as him simply not knowing how to control his reiatsu properly. We see other characters later on far more powerful than starrk and yet basic hollows don't just fall over. Shikai Ichigo saving the two shinigami from all the hollows at the start of the TWBW in Karakura Town is an example of that.

Splitting your soul willingly into various sentient beings and even one with a different personality is a level of control beyond anything we've seen amongst hollows in general. So that's definitely not the case. It's simply about his passive spiritual pressure being that much. Remember, the top 2 espada are actually far far stronger than they were portrayed to be. The data books claim that stark can shoot cero metrallata infinitely without stopping. The implication is that Starrk has a nigh endless well of spiritual power. The only issue is how much he allows to be released at once. As for stronger characters not killing hollows passively, it's kinda easy to explain that. Starrk was killing tons of hollows near him with his passive spiritual pressure, during the fake karakura town arc, we see hollows on the ground simply evaporate due to the presence of the Gotei 13 and the Espada, in the SAFWY novel, we see that Kenpachi Kuruyashiki could shake the masks off the faces of Vasto Lorde hollows with his spiritual pressure. But characters over a certain spirit class seems unaffected by passive spiritual pressure and that's very consistent. Vice captain level soul reapers and Arrancar and above aren't affected by passive spiritual pressure of incredibly powerful beings. But if said incredibly powerful beings decide to increase their spiritual pressure with intent, we see that it actually hurts these fairly strong Arrancar and vice captain to captain level characters. Example: Aizen flexing on Grimmjow. My point is, if a character is at a certain spirit class, passive spiritual pressure from an insanely powerful source won't just kill them.
@@NEONlights-lb8um Sure he can fire a ridiculous amount of cero at a time, but they don't pack a ton of power themselves. Shunsui took a hit dead on and was fine, and even Love and Rose survived his wolves exploding in their faces. Barragan's respira is basically a game over if you get hit with it, because you'll either lose your limb and be weakened or you'll just completely rot away. Plus nothing to suggest Barragan can't just endlessly spam respira like Starrk could with ceros.

I said the same thing. And one of those captains is the future commander and easily one of the strongest there. Also one of the only handful of characters to actually have his blade touch aizen if I can recall. So that says a lot about Stark
@@AlexDrewsumin Kyouraku unfortunately never touched Aizen. Shinji, Yamamoto, Ichigo, Isshin, Yoruichi, Urahara and Gin were the only ones in the story at the time to touch Aizen.
Either him or Grimmjow is my favorite espada with Ulquiorra being third favorite for me. I wish Starrk lived and was in TYBW tbh. Such a cool character that deserved more screentime and a slightly longer fight too

Personally I would have had him die defendin Hueco Mundo from the Quincy Military Occupation when they first invaded at the hands of the Quincy king instead of Harribel, reason being for killin Stark is that He can body almost all the Quincy if he faugh them & a threat to him race overall as the strongest weapon essentially against Quincy by Design & then after killin him going to talk to Aizen & Givin him praise for recruitin Stark into his Former ranks, sayin had he not killed him, he would have been A lot for his army & people to deal with without sufferin heavy loss before reachin the royal palace & the we cut to Aizen laugh a bit probably out of a sense of dominance he had over The Quincy king before he showed up with Aizen Espada & passively dismissin it coz he's Aizen😅 but that's just me
Stark is Primera Espada, he is the strongest! No other Espada could endure a fight against 4 captain level shinigami, and 2 of them were Vizard. Shunsui killed Stark with "dirt tricks" and because Stark was just too sad cause the death of his comrades and lost the will to keep living.

Yammys the strongest nice try , kubo himself said it in a q&a , if you can't accept that , then I'm free to say ulquiorra is the strongest ( the guy literally changed the nature of his reiatsu to other hollows in his second form which scared even uryu) and he has far greater feats

I believe the weakness of Starrk's wolf technique is that it weakens his main body. If he's splitting his soul to the wolf spirits, then he's reducing his own reiryoku and reiatsu. This ties into his theme of loneliness. He desires companions and to be weak and his final ability displays that. This is also probably why he went down so easily from Kyoraku later on. Starrk is an anomaly much like Kenpachi. Seemingly born with insane reiryoku and doesn't seem like he consumed hollows to grow his power. He could have been a natural born hollow like Ulquiorra and he is a natural arrancar using even more unique ways that the others. In a way Starrk is like the opposite of Kenpachi but at the same time very similar.
Which down grades him by a lot since it literally should be like a Gran ray cero but it does no damage even ulq lance deals more damage than that he can use it hundreds of times without casualties
I do like the "reiyoku" ranking for Starkk and Yammy specifically because it just makes sense. One of the guide books implies Starkk has infinite energy, like a DBZ Android. It would be cool if Yammy had the highest ceiling among the espada but Starkk was the most consistent.
It should've been him the one to survive and not Tia. He gets slashed and says "fuck it, I'm out" and since lilinette isnt there to convince him to fight again he just leaves to take a nap. Lilinette eventually reforms and they just wander Hueco Mundo together until the quincy invasion, where he manages to just evade being captured by virtue of just Sonidoing from end to end.
Stark took 4 Captain's (2 former) and he was still wasn't trying. Stark took those hits like it was nothing and still got back up until Shunsui delivered the final blow
A final blow that was bullshit as Kyoraku hit his hole (pause)... a.k.a nothing. Imo at this moment he should've pierced through one of his back black straps & just before dying, Starrk would've achieved Segunda Etapa & survived
Remember what Aizen said, an hollow is a black soul with gained its name because it is a hollow made from shinigames who are white souls. So saying black means he literally cut Stark an black soul
The argument is that if Stark has bloodlust he's the strongest Espada but if he has bloodlust is he still Stark? Its just like saying if Yammy was more cautious he'd be a more deadly fighter but he isnt
22:45 this is EXACTLY why Kubo recently stated he wants Bleach’s initial series to be Redone. The censorship, the add on’s without kubo’s input (MINUS The Zanpaktou Rebellion Arc which still technically is filler), the elongated fights, Bleach just needs to be re-done (even a Kai adaptation would do)
I imagine Zommari claiming his Sonido is the fastest among the Espada is only true when it comes to their Base Forms since he doesn’t really move in his Ressurecion. He is able to make clones after all. When it comes to Ressurecion, I would easily give that spot to Starrk or Segunda Etapa Ulquiorra.
It has to do with technique. He explained this. He alone has mastered Sonido to the point that he was able to make a new technique from it, which allowed him to greate 5 tangible after images, dopplegangers, to fight his opponent. He basically does Naruto's Multi-Shadow clone Jutsu with nothing but sheer speed. Not even Stark can do that.
Segunda etapa Ulquirorra is something else entirely. I personally believe that after release, Stark is probably the strongest espada by a fair margin, but Ulquirorra having that Segunda etapa form makes him an almost unquantifiable variable, and would, in my opinion, place him alongside Stark
Starrk was arguably the only Espada who ever actually achieved his goal, and I feel like narratively it's best shown with his mirror opponent being Shunsui. Both are hands down the strongest of their group, Starrk being the only one who'd ascended to Arrancar before Aizen's interference and doing so only to have someone to talk to in Lillinette. He was so obscenely powerful that being in his presence was enough to kill anything else, so he split himself in two in order to not be lonely. I think this is mirrored well with his opponent being Shunsui, in that both of them are unable to ever really go all out, without risking the destruction of what they hold dearest, and Starrk unfortunately experienced that when he lost Lillinette. Comparing their fight with Shunsui vs Lille Barro, it brings up the question of would the same thing had happened if Nanao was killed in front of Shunsui. Starrk is the sadest Espada in my opinion. He wanted to avoid being alone, but in the end, he watched every single one of his companions die in front of him.
Starrk is one of my favorite Espada but it’s not hard to imagine why people downplay him. It doesn’t help that not one of the 4 captains he faced ever went Bankai on him, which always irritated me since fighting a Bankai user is the only thing he ever asked for and never got it. So while it’s true that he never went all out, the same can be said for all of his opponents. Yeah I think Kubo could’ve done a better job showcasing his strength as the Primera, like at least have Love use his Bankai on him.
I don't understand what going all out even means, when he uses los lobos, his strongest move, that presumably affects his soul. This is really tiresome and nonsensical

Starrk barely put any effort into the fight even after he “got serious.” If he wanted to fight hard, he would have sent all his ceros and wolves out before Shunsui and Ukitake ever had a chance to test him. He was clearly capable of doing so.
To be fair, Hollowfication is akin to Bankai. So he did fight Bankai levek amps even if he didn't fight their actual Bankai forms. And Rose, at least, we know why he didn't use Bankai. It would have been suicide against an opponent like Stark.
@@corruptangel6793 You may have a point especially when it comes to Rose. Starrk showed great Battle IQ and Rose has a big mouth. It also could be possible that his Bankai might affect anyone who might hear it nearby so it could endanger Love as well. He did use it against Mask only after Kensei was knocked out. I do wonder why we never saw a Visored use both Hollowfication and Bankai at the same time though aside from Ichigo.
I always assumed that Starrk's wolves are kind of a manifestation against their aspect of death They hated being alone and killing everyone close to them, so they separated themselves to never be alone So that same entity willed itself to create "companions" with their ability to attack/protect themselves, and never be alone again
I mean, Barragan explains that their aspects of death are what determines their mentality, ideologies, abilities...their very reasons for existing. They are the embodiments of those aspects of death.
I don't remember where, but i think Kubo said that when he kills someone, he waits for the right moment. If he thinks the moment isn't cool or dramatic enough, then they'll survive. I kind of get that with Stark. It was a tragic, pitiful end. It felt like one of the good guys died, not one of the "bad" guys. I honestly feel that the emotional impact and weight of the battle would have been lessened if he had survived.
@@chaossin7425 might not be far from the truth. Kubo does end of chapter sketches to show glimpses into underlying things happening, and Stark and Lillynette are shown as 2 Coyotes. When Stark dies, only one wolf dies while the other sadly lowers their snout to sniff at the body. In the next chapter ending, it's lying down and resting its head on its dead companion. Lillynette might still be alive in some form. Even though the anime went out of its way to make it seem like she died.
Also remember stark was NOT powered up by the Hoygokyu. All other Espadas were. Be he and Lillinet are the same in the flash back as they were in Las Noches. That also speaks to his raw power and capabilities.
As much as I love Halibel and Grimmjow, Starrk is the one espada I truly wish had survived the war. He was my favorite from the jump and his reveal as the #1 espada made my day when it was revealed. Imagine how much of a force he could've been against the quincy invasion.
At the end of the day, the Battle of Karakura Town boils down to this: Aizen put four Vasto Lordes against five Captains and the Captain-Commander and fully expected them to win. As soon as the fourth Vasto Lorde showed up, all three of the others stepped up more or less untouched. Aizen's line referring to "What's about to happen here" even implied that he wasn't going to get his hands dirty finishing the Captains off: he was just going to watch. Starrk and Wonderweiss had already eliminated Shunsui and Ukitake; Soifon had one arm and no energy left to fight Barragan; and Hitsugaya had also drained his energy fighting Harribel. Had the Vizards not arrived and distracted Starrk, the man probably would have soloed everyone except the Captain Commander--and I doubt he would succumb as easily to punches when Wonderweiss used Extinguir. There's a reason why I only give Starrk the L to a handful of Sternritters.
@@Blackmustache870 Oh, yeah, Starrk wasn't gonna stand a CHANCE against his Bankai, but even if you're referring to Katen's temperament (which if you are, good on ya!), I think he could have matched Shunsui's games in a fair fight. Shunsui wouldn't have been able to actually cut the colors he wanted if Starrk had still been at full mobility. But that's how Shunsui operates: find an opening, exploit it, win. He actually Cared about the fight.

Something you mentioned that I'd forgotten was the fact that Shunsui in shikai, couldn't land a single blow on Stark prior to the vizards intervention. Literally one of the best swordsman in the verse couldn't land a blow, that's kinda insane.

That doesn't sound like someone who's got more tricks up his sleeve. Also, Shunsui got a critical hit on him later in the fight from behind. A blow that would've ended most others, so both weren't exactly fighting fit during the last stage of their fight.
@seldomsane5278 it's not that shunsui intentionally hid his power. It's that he himself had no control over it. Katen kyokotsu is the one that controls the games shunsui uses. Due to that, a nerfed shunsui HAD to use his bankai, not because his shikai wasn't strong enough, but because it was the only option left. Shunsui also had survived an attack from starrk that was meant to take shunsui out when statrk said aizen couldn't wait any longer.
Starrk could’ve been dangerous if he were to actually fight seriously in the beginning. I feel like his laziness and unwillingness to fight makes alot of people think he shouldn’t have been num. 1 Espada.
Let that sink in. He wasn't even trying, threw the fight and was depressed while fighting all while he was blasting his enemies with permanukes like it was nothing, that's all you need to know about his potential. The guy is the definition of wasted potential, we will perhaps never know how strong he truly was.
@bigjc5546 I disagree. If Ulquiorra was stronger than Starrk he'd either be number 1 or at the very least his number would have changed the way Yami's did. Especially since they were introduced and sort of kept together as a pair. It wouldn't make sense for Yami to have a number change post transformation and Ulquiorra doesn't get the same courtesy. If anything it would add more to the story if that happened. Starrk on the other hand split his soul to compensate for his solitude and also weaken himself enough so that an entity can survive around him even if the entity in question is his own soul. All the espada wandered alone before Aizen came along, none had an effect on their surroundings so impactful that creatures (OF THE SAME SPECIES) would die by coming near him. And with the way his power works in the series, I'd say he never gets to use his real power because even though he joined with Lilinette, she remained a separate entity both as a gun and a wolf. She could even act on her own. With that, I'd say he's stronger than Ulquiorra and just a little below Vasto Lorde Ichigo. He would have performed much better if he and Ulquiorra swapped places in that fight.

Yay new Starrk video!! I think if he was in the story longer or maybe had a more fleshed out fight we could potentially see some really cool stuff. I think his ability to be able to isolate parts of his soul and shape them into whatever he wants is pretty awesome
I hate when they use the "he was defeated with just a Shikai" to downplay Starrk. Katen Kyokotsu is a top tier Shikai, It is strong enough to force the leader of the Schutzstaffel to activate his Holy Form. You could downplay Starrk if he was defeated by a shikai like Zabimaru or Hozukimaru, but he wasn't. He was defeated by a Hax shikai.
Karen kyokotsu is an extremely Hax shikai. Especially when you consider games like iro-oni effectively negate or soft-negate the opponents own abilities. I'd go as far as to compare it to kyouka suigetsu in the sense that it is a shikai that is outright more powerful than several bankais.
After seeing his bankai I understood why Kyoraku just CONSIDERING the need to use it is such a big deal. His bankai isn't a guarantee of victory... it is a fucking gamble, the "best" worst outcome from it would be just him dying. Katen Kyokotsu is a moody mistress.
Shunsui shikai is way stronger than you think and ukitake was a legit perfect counter for starrk retarded ass 💀 he can absorb ceros and use it on him starrk spiritual pressure is also strong btw not like aizen but he has alot reiatsu nobody rides him he just got dirty@@source324
Stark is greatly underestimated by the community but... people forget his backstory so often. Stark was so immensely powerful in his original state that it literately killed those around him. Much like a human would dissolve from just being close to a captains spiritual pressure... except this is against other hollows... and even after drastically reducing his powers his strength was enough that Aizen made him the Primera and more importantly that Barragon was okay with it.
I think Starrk was kind of meant to be the “ultimate” Arrancar. He had an excellent grasp of Cero, Sonido and Hierro, (an arrancar’s main abilities) and looked very human even in his resurrección.
That was a great time period to be a Bleach fan! I was volunteering as an art mod for the Manga Helpers website at the time. I was definitely reading it weekly, along w/ a few other mangas.
I think Stark like Ginjo, would probably have been a Soul King candidate. Simply because of his nature of constant evolution. He was the only one to transcend normal hollow bounds (before Ulquiorra light novel retcons) and I think his aspect of death was most like "God", loneliness, and allowed him his evolution to attempt to cure it. I think if Stark had continued to feel alone, he wouldve broken the hollow shinigami boundaries even further like Aizen and become maybe even something resembling Ichigo in terms of being a more complete Hybrid but not quite perfect Hybrid like Ichigo. The more loneliness he felt maybe the more he would evolve into a more complete being. Giving Hueco Mundo its own powerhouse like Ichigo and a proper King, but keeping him below ichigo in power, for the sake of story.
Head cannon: its very possible that he could also fire Cero Oscuras if he really wanted to if ulquiorra could do it with not max reshi i'm sure stark could too. And on top of that Yhwach is able to split his soul and given the universe's rules he can draw back the powers from the then split soul back. He seems to be the hollow equivalent of Yhwach as a hollow, and maybe even the balancing force opposite of the soul king. GREAT video !! underrated character!!
Starrk was worthy even if his character was not enthusiastic or battle hungry. In fact that's what makes him so memorable and admirable, he was powerful yet only wanted friends while being opposed to bloodshed while even giving opponents a chance to flee not wanting to kill. He and Lillinet would've been better off with Ichigo and company.

I do think Starrk is the strongest espada. I knew Ulquiorra had a better showing but I never thought he was that powerful. He was facing Ichigo, who had not tapped into much of his potential yet, and was an emotional wrack. Ulquiorra stood no chance with horned ichigo, which I personally scaled roughly the same as the white hollow who fought Isshin, a senior captain in shikai. Harribel was fighting a kid captain and Baraggan was fighting a teenager captain. Kyoraku's shikai is probably more broken than both of young captain's bankai at this point. As for the cero ability, I'd like to refer to another great anime Frieren. Zoltraak can be the most lethal magic when used by Frieren and Fern, and Starrk is that kind of master user.
My very first experience with bleach was the episode when Stark went into his resurrection and ever since then I’ve been hooked onto bleach and Stark is by far one of my favorite characters in the series

Good video. Starrk is basically Shunsui's counterpart as Arrancar, he's crazy strong but needs to get in the mood or he nefrs himself (see Kyoraku losing an eye to Robert while the same captain in shikai owned base Lille). That's all. If people complain that his ability, simply firing ceros, is basic, well, that's true, but does it matter? I like too more complex abilities, but look at Ichigo, who just fires GS all the same. The raw power is combined with the other fighting abilities, that you perfectly analyzed, and then, to fire all those ceros, without a blink, one must possess a huge amount of reiatsu. Cero Metralleta and the pack of wolves are just broken, sad we didn't see a Gran Rey Cero from him. Sad for the screentime, and overall almost all the Espadas (except Grimmjow and Ulquiorra, I say Nnoitra too) were played dirty, moving some fans to downlook at them. Despite Starrk wanted to see a bankai, no one used it against him, but c'mon, he's the only Espada who faced 4 captains (in sequence), two of them were among the strongest of the Gotei, and he didn't sweat at all during the whole fight. His end indeed felt a bit rushed and strange. Even one like Shunsui had to stab him in the back to deliver a (first) critical hit, indeed the Primera lost his motivation (he was really emotional), but then was weird, not summoning his wolves anymore (in the manga) and opting for a sword fight. He still matched Kyoraku for a while, until he tricked him again, dirty again. Overall, I don't see a real demerit in his end.
My personal headcanon is that the discrepancy between the significance in the numbering of the Espada is because Aizen used a different criteria when he took control than was used previously to justify his moving people up and down in the ranking. It makes sense that Barrigan, the previous king of Hueco Mundo wouldn’t have accepted s legitimate Aizen’s new system and would refer to the old one.
Starrk has always been one of my favourite characters, and probably the one that my mind often drifts back to the most. Battle wise despite his immense strength he utilised his analytical skills in the fight, pulled his punches where his opponents were not, and it took Shunsui taking advantage of Starrk being completely distracted (and thinking he was already knocked out of the fight) before anyone was able to deal any damage to the guy. Characterisation wise there's something about Starrk's particular brand of apathy that I've always resonated with. Kind of like Saitama from OPM, strength has never brought him joy and has left him feeling directionless and listless. His death still feels so unnecessary, and really wish he was able to appear in the TYBW arc. Does anyone know if fans have asked about Starrk on Klub Outside? Be interested to know if Kubo had given any thought to the guy since his death.
I've always loved thinking about the significance of his hole being so small, like he was depressed about being a hollow and the loneliness of it, and became as close to human/shinigami as absolutely possible
*_"LACKLUSTER PERFORMANCE"_* is what hurt Starrk the most. It's a shame he's a collateral damage by Kubo's preservation of Kyoraku's Bankai for the last arc. whoa, i was surprised we have the same opinion with Cero for "zero" kills. Kubo downgraded this powerful attack by using it as a hype attack only and with ZERO kills through out the story.
To be honest. Even when Starkk took things more serious, you can’t believe he still went ALL OUT. If he did, Love and Rose be dead and Shunsui would have to Bankai regardless of those around him.
I almost think the whole community conversation should be reframed from 'Starrk is so weak he lost to Kyoraku 😂' to 'Kyoraku is so strong he beat Starrk'!!! Like let's not forget Starrk basically just went against the future Captain Commander of the Soul Society!!!
The subtext to Starrk implies pretty clearly that he's the strongest hollow in the source material and it's not even close. His spiritual pressure passively soul crushing other hollows to death en-mass is a feat the likes of which we've only seen equivalents of from Yamamoto, 3rd form Aizen and (I suppose now circa TYBW cour 2) Senjumaru. The fact that he's evolved so much as a hollow to essentially transcend the bestial theme of the race and has become more or less "human" beyond that of any of his contemporaries in the upper ranks of the espada is another huge tell as falling short of what Starrk is is the lofty goal that Grimmjow's gang were pursuing before becoming arrancars. Aizen is a scientist and, though conniving, I don't see him as someone who would ever inaccurately rank his subordinates in a hierarchy. In addition, Starrk is weird in that he's explicitly the only one of Aizen's subordinates that Aizen has some special respect for and I'd argue it's due to kinship in being that far beyond their fellows. Aizen is content to sit back and watch the battle in Fake Karakura until Starrk falls, at which point he writes off the entire Espada idea as a waste before dealing with the Gotei 13 himself. I think the rest of the big points were covered in the video, save for maybe that Starrk is a natural arrancar and probably wasn't enhanced by the hogyoku.
@@ΚρανίΩ, I don't think Segunda Etapa is like a "hollow bankai" so much as it's like one of the elder captains with multi-stage bankai effects. Murciélago's second stage, if anything (as an arrancar's release makes them "fully hollow" again), would just be the equivalent of a power making him more "hollow" which though powerful is kinda the antithesis of what a Vasto Lorde embodies. It's the rejection of being monstrous AKA becoming more like Starrk that concludes Ulquiorra's arc. I think it could reasonably be argued that Ulquiorra may have eclipsed Halibel with Segunda Etapa and Aizen just hadn't done anything to change ranks in the period where that's relevant, but I think surpassing Starrk or Barragan is a hard sell. Keep in mind that Ulquiorra literally claimed that 3 Espada outclassed him to Ichigo and he's a little too straightlaced to falsely boast of his faction's powers simply for the sake of intimidation.

Stark and Barragan are what happens when Schutzstaffel tier powerhouses don't put in any effort. Barragan, due to his lazy arrogance, and Stark because of his reluctance to fight in the first place. Imagine Barragan with Gerard's mentality and Stark with Lille's

@@Blackmustache870 Yammi is slow, and his skills are notoriously bad. He may have been the strongest Espada, but he was far from the most dangerous. Fighting Yammi is like fighting a Dark Souls boss, as long as you don't get hit, victory is only a matter of when, and not if. Also, don't forget, he was also dealing with Bankai Byakuya too. Hence why Kenpachi called the fight a bore despite having to remove his eyepatch and (implied in the manga) remove a mental seal. Remember, Kenpachi, with his eyepatch on, was trashing first release Yammi, yet that same Kenpachi, without his eyepatch, got effortlessly perception blitzed by base Stark. Stark could have casually taken his and Ichigo's heads then and there if he wanted. Oh, and not to mention how the top 4 Espada were forbidden from using their ressurection within Los Noches because they would destroy the entire place, yet Yammi never came close to destroying it and made no sign that he was even threatening the Canopy, like when Grimmjow used his Gran Ray Cero. Stark and Barragan may not have the BS hax and pseudo immortality of the Schutzstaffel, but power and skill wise, they are definitely up there.
@@corruptangel6793 yammy not blowing up Las noches is an obv plot hole so it can't be used in this argument, especially since we know kubo was rushed asf in tge arrancar arc when he said ulquiorra vs ichigo dudnt go the way he wanted. Yammy already had 0 in his initial releases power, so even in tgat state he would beat tge other 4. Tge espada ranks r based on overall power. In a direct fight, tge hugger rank will beat the lower rank no matter what. So it just means rgat yammys power in general is so far above the others tgat it's all he needs to beat them.
stark felt like that hidden powerhouse kind, while the others are fancy, flashy and memorable like ulqiora, stark's power is pretty simple, but overwhelmingly effective, it's basically as other people said, a homing infinite nuke, and the fact that it's just that is even crazier as that means it's practically still a blank state, means stark still probably has room for improvement if he actually polish his power more, i felt like a random guy from one punch man reading news about caped baldy when i write this, because i see similarities in their treatment from certain perspective
I always thought that the espada ranking was questionable since Segunda Etapa. If Aizen never saw it, then Ulqiorra's rank isn't accurate. I'm not a TYBW guy so this may no longer be accurate, but I always thought Stark and Barragan were done the dirtiest of the villains. Stark may beat Barragan in terms of power and combat ability and in a legitimate fight, but I've never considered Barragan to need that. I don't know if it's a vasto lorde thing, but Barragan's release form is literally just his original hollow form. The "power up" of making him an arrancar didn't change his true appearance at all. And in terms of Respira, he needed to have an actual defense against his own ability in the time dialation field, it was that powerful. He was only defeated when that was bypassed and his ability was used against him. Something to note, Respira basically killed barragan instantly, while Soifon's bankai in an enclosed space only cracked his skull. At the end of the day, neither of these guys were being beat legitimately. I do love how he shouts Stark to command the wolves. Not just being his name but the German word Stark meaning strong really just fits.
I’m addicted ti Stark untealeased ost ! I listen to it so much time because I feel a strong connection to him. Not him being the strongest but him feeling a deep solitude and loneliness because of it. It’s sad his fate was like that because his potential could’ve been insane further into the series. These are ranks specially given to them. There is a hierarchy in the arancars obviously and they all mean to honor it but, in my own generalizations. I believe that the ranks aren’t only given in terms of lethality but in relation to how they use it and I think that idea supports the ranking system with a more concise filter. As you stated in the video, there are many discussions and debates on who really is the strongest espada, we’ve been given troves of evidence and feats to support them. However out of all the espadas, Starks personality stands out more than the rest and his approach to anything he’s involved in be it a fight or discussion. His battle IQ was genius , his reactions, anything he involved himself in was always thought out. He’s well aware of his immense power but he doesn’t flaunt it, he almost treats it with empathy and kindness to even his opponents. He’s a solider swinging his sword out of duty. His personality towards being the prime is so dismissive, I guarantee if given the choice he’d gladly give that spot to anyone else. I believe he’s the perfect example of someone cursed with power and knowledge, his cynicism and nihilism were his only downfall along with his lackadaisical approach towards a war he was forced into. He didn’t care and he didn’t care if he lost, he wanted an excuse out. He was kind and caring to those involved with him because no matter who they are or were, it was a better option than being alone. A choice between a void of loneliness or sought out solitude. It’s so immense and maddening it would leave anyone, Stark-raving sad.
I think Starrk's wolves are the perfect counter to respira. Why? It's very simple. There's only one thing in bleach that's actually immune to the effects of aging and that's the actual soul. The soul cannot be destroyed in bleach except by a Quincy. Every being is reincarnated over and over again in different forms, but still possessing the same soul. Starrk's wolves are made of his soul. A lot of people don't think about the implications and why that ability puts him above Barragan. It's not far fetched to think about because there's a lot of religious inspiration in bleach and across a ton of religions, the soul is eternal. Also, Kubo could've just said that the wolves are made out of Reiatsu but they aren't. They are made of starrk's very soul.

And that human souls die and can become hollows which when killed reincarnate in the soul society? It's their spiritual pressure that is reabsorbed into the soul society, not their souls. Don't forget in bleach, spiritual beings still possess a soul. The hogyoku was hidden inside Rukia's soul. Spiritual pressure isn't the same as the soul. When captain class Shinigami die, their spiritual pressure is too dense to be reabsorbed into the soul society, so they send them to hell instead. The implication is that their spiritual body cannot be broken down and reabsorbed, the soul is contained within the spiritual body and so it's sent to hell with the captain. Did you forget that Aizen wanted to use the sokyoku to completely destroy Rukia's soul so he could get the hogyoku? He failed, so he used another device that bypasses the spiritual body in order to touch her soul and obtain the hogyoku.

It is implied that the souls that form in the world of the living are coming from individuals dying in the soul society that were born there. Otherwise there wouldn't really be a balance issue that the quencies were causing
When me and my friend talk abouts Starks abilities, we like to say "Coyote Stark has 2 Guns that shoots Kamehamehas with unlimited Ammo". When you put it like that he sounds terrifying
He's my second favourite Espada, so I might be biased, but that's what opinions are for. 26:42 "Is he as strong as I'm giving him credit for?" -> Yes. I think he was the strongest Espada in the series, and I don't think it's close. Aizen could've given him the number 1 to spite Baraggan, but I don't think so. Starrk showed how monstrous he truly was. "Is he really that powerful?" -> Well, again, I think so. The dude showed what seemed like infinite Reiryoku, and he used it perfectly. Well, minus the part where weaker Hollows would die if they go too close... "Was he worthy of holding the Primera Espada title?" -> Definitely. Like a lot of people, I'm still pissed about the Cero Espada and how the hierarchy changed, but I do believe he was the strongest. "Did you like that he was the master of the Cero, or was that a little underwhelming to you? Was it a bit disappointing?" -> Oh, fuck no! I LOVED this ability!! It's simple, but it's amazing. The colours; the sound (in the anime, of course); the destructive power; the variations. Everything was great. Him being a master of the Cero was just perfect for me: the strongest Espada mastered the strongest Hollow technique. I just don't like the colour of his Cero, but that's just me. Blue suits him, as it's a lighter colour. I think it suits someone who doesn't like violence, and would rather just talk it out, if possible, and if it's not possible to talk it out, then just pretend it is, and not dealing with it. Love this guy!

he did seem to struggle with shunsui so i guess his not really good at fighting fast and smart opponents

When you actually go back a see just how many cero Starrk shot off, it’s obvious the dude had an ocean of reiatsu. I just wish Kubo let him live, and Shunsui goes and visits him every once in a while to play strategy board games and drink sake. Eventually Lilynette reforms and is by his side again.

Fuck no. Each one of those ceros are as strong as ulqs. You have NO idea what you are talking about. Just a single hit was good enough to take shisui out of the fight. In terms of speed they can be somewhat dodged but that's it. In terms of raw power a couple hits is enough to deal with most high tiers and that's just his basic ceros. Obviously, he has higher level ceros which he even used against shisui who had to be saved or use his broken af bankai and forcing Shisui to use his bankai is a major feat in of itself.
Something to remember: Most Arrancar became Arrancar only through the Hogyoku.

Those wolves are somewhat like the Final Getsuga/Letzt Stil ability. So he was probably also loosing power doing that. Which is why he stopped using it later.
Not quite, an Arrancar is a hollow that's survived breaking it's mask. It's a rare thing, but as well as Starrk both Ulquiorra and Barragan were also natural Arrancar. The blending of Hollow and Shinigami is a separate process that Aizen was performing simultaneously with the Hogyoku while also using the atrocity ball to keep the hollows together through becoming Arrancar.
It is still an extremely impressive feat. Shinigami kill hollows by destroying their masks.
@@uncabob214no, ulquiorra is on a completely different level. He seems to be genetically linked to the primordial hollows. When he transforms for a second time his reiatsu becomes completely alien, and his poem also suggests that he came from the sand of primordial hollows. He is an arrancar in his base and first transformation, but in his second he goes back to being hollow like.

We the fans definitely needed more Coyote. And I agree that all three top Espada were played by Kubo. He definitely should did way more with them. The lack of content and feats is a major reason a lot of fans default favorite Espadas are Ulquiorra and Grimmjow.

I think ulqi and Grimm are just so much more memorable…Kubo did leave a lot of “meat on the bone “before moving on to the next arc. This is my favorite anime and like the 1st love of my anime life and i still cant really say which espada is my favorite if any of them 🤷🏿♂️. Ulqi and Grimm seem to get more screen time as well 😳

By the hints that exist, Ulg is connected to the primordial Hollows, even whatever there was before, his power is just... alien to what exist in current time.
Starrk is... a natural progression, he is chance being stacked until a being like him came into existence.
He simply happened to get those powers but at the same time, because this evolution is closely tied to his human aspects he felt the weight much more.
He is the perfect Hollow, the supreme Vastolorde, he is the pinacle of the evolutionary process of Hueco Mundo... and he would be anything else if he could.
@@Alacaelumthe ulquiorra primordial hollow theory has holes. Number 1, the 2nd release is confirmed to be able to be achieved thru training, so ulquiorra was never that lvl of strength originally. Number 2, since we know this, ulquiorra had to achieve his second release AFTER aizen gave him power from tge hokyoku which would be the only way ulquiorra would claim that aizen hasn't seen it. So that means, we can only judge ulquiorras original power based off his 1st release which is way too weak for that theory to even be possible.
From a writing perspective, Starrk’s death reminds me of Unohana’s death. In both cases, the character didn’t actually need to die if we look at the fight as a fight for survival. But because of their personalities, their goal is not actually to survive and they allow themselves to be killed in a fight they could have won right away. In Starrk’s case, unfortunately, there was a lot of anticipation in seeing the Number 1 Espada outperform every other Espada we’ve seen so far.
I agree with that assessment. People also under-scale both due to their showing and the result of the fights, not even considering they are both compromised in their respective fights.
Unohana straight up won the fight many many times and healed Kenpachi back up from a skeleton
@@vaiyt exactly, a fully unlimited Kimpachi was still being matched by an exaughsted and out of gas Unohana that kept nursing him back to health on the dime of her own spirit energy. Because of this, we probably only got to see her at some 20% lethality

This is a very miniscule detail that only popped up from powerscaling kids, and as we know, authors aren't perfect. Zaraki is confirmed stronger than unohana as a kid, so there's no reason to believe unohana would be that much stronger than fully unsuppressed base zaraki now.
@ghhbpolo Kid kimpachi was still stronger than the kimpachi we see fight gremmy (evident that his eye patch was on for the duration of the fight). It isn't really inconsistent with the scaling, so I'm not sure why anyone would pump the breaks here on her overall power. There's a reason I used the word lethality and not power.
Machine Gun Cero is enough for me to sing Starks praises. Right up there with Naruto making rasenshuriken out of the different tailed beast kekkei genkai and bijuu energy. The ability to make multiple of your verse's nukes is always mad impressive.
I'm so glad you and Clyde have both gone on to state how truly strong Coyote Stark was. I'd like to add, if you can consider Segunda Etapa a bankai for arrancar, might I posit that not only could Stark have such a thing in his grasp but perhaps went above it? Having a Zanpakuto spirit is something that is a privilege of Soul Reapers. Becoming an arrancar is the process of shinigamification, and there is nothing more emblematic of a soul reaper than their sword spirit, it comes before their shikai and their bankai. To become one with your sword is to go beyond bankai (shout-out ichigo) and I think this is shown really well with starks weapons. He is an enigma, a technological singularity when it comes to hollows. The most advanced thing we may see is a hafted weapon, a lance made of light, but a gun?! That's insane!
EDIT: I completely forgot to mention, but Starks mastery of Cero combined with this convincing replica of a Zanpakuto spirit makes him, in my opinion, a mastery of both sets of strengths unlike any other. Ulquiorra may be a hollows hollow, but Stark is an Arrancars Arrancar.
The fact that Starrk can take Ukitake and Shunsui at the same time without getting a single hit despite both captains essentially being transcendent in battle as described by Yamamoto and then having countless hollows die from his passive spiritual pressure simply by being in his presence but number 2 Barragan was constantly surrounded by a court of hollows unbothered by his spiritual pressure shows the gap in power between the two and also shows that he is in fact Number 1 for a very good reason.
The hollows dying thing always came off to me as him simply not knowing how to control his reiatsu properly. We see other characters later on far more powerful than starrk and yet basic hollows don't just fall over. Shikai Ichigo saving the two shinigami from all the hollows at the start of the TWBW in Karakura Town is an example of that.

Splitting your soul willingly into various sentient beings and even one with a different personality is a level of control beyond anything we've seen amongst hollows in general. So that's definitely not the case. It's simply about his passive spiritual pressure being that much. Remember, the top 2 espada are actually far far stronger than they were portrayed to be. The data books claim that stark can shoot cero metrallata infinitely without stopping. The implication is that Starrk has a nigh endless well of spiritual power. The only issue is how much he allows to be released at once.
As for stronger characters not killing hollows passively, it's kinda easy to explain that. Starrk was killing tons of hollows near him with his passive spiritual pressure, during the fake karakura town arc, we see hollows on the ground simply evaporate due to the presence of the Gotei 13 and the Espada, in the SAFWY novel, we see that Kenpachi Kuruyashiki could shake the masks off the faces of Vasto Lorde hollows with his spiritual pressure. But characters over a certain spirit class seems unaffected by passive spiritual pressure and that's very consistent. Vice captain level soul reapers and Arrancar and above aren't affected by passive spiritual pressure of incredibly powerful beings. But if said incredibly powerful beings decide to increase their spiritual pressure with intent, we see that it actually hurts these fairly strong Arrancar and vice captain to captain level characters. Example: Aizen flexing on Grimmjow.
My point is, if a character is at a certain spirit class, passive spiritual pressure from an insanely powerful source won't just kill them.
@@NEONlights-lb8um Sure he can fire a ridiculous amount of cero at a time, but they don't pack a ton of power themselves. Shunsui took a hit dead on and was fine, and even Love and Rose survived his wolves exploding in their faces. Barragan's respira is basically a game over if you get hit with it, because you'll either lose your limb and be weakened or you'll just completely rot away. Plus nothing to suggest Barragan can't just endlessly spam respira like Starrk could with ceros.

Stark is Primera Espada, he is the strongest! No other Espada could endure a fight against 4 captain level shinigami, and 2 of them were Vizard. Shunsui killed Stark with "dirt tricks" and because Stark was just too sad cause the death of his comrades and lost the will to keep living.

Facts
I believe the weakness of Starrk's wolf technique is that it weakens his main body. If he's splitting his soul to the wolf spirits, then he's reducing his own reiryoku and reiatsu. This ties into his theme of loneliness. He desires companions and to be weak and his final ability displays that. This is also probably why he went down so easily from Kyoraku later on. Starrk is an anomaly much like Kenpachi. Seemingly born with insane reiryoku and doesn't seem like he consumed hollows to grow his power. He could have been a natural born hollow like Ulquiorra and he is a natural arrancar using even more unique ways that the others. In a way Starrk is like the opposite of Kenpachi but at the same time very similar.

I do like the "reiyoku" ranking for Starkk and Yammy specifically because it just makes sense. One of the guide books implies Starkk has infinite energy, like a DBZ Android. It would be cool if Yammy had the highest ceiling among the espada but Starkk was the most consistent.

Lilinette eventually reforms and they just wander Hueco Mundo together until the quincy invasion, where he manages to just evade being captured by virtue of just Sonidoing from end to end.
Stark took 4 Captain's (2 former) and he was still wasn't trying. Stark took those hits like it was nothing and still got back up until Shunsui delivered the final blow

I imagine Zommari claiming his Sonido is the fastest among the Espada is only true when it comes to their Base Forms since he doesn’t really move in his Ressurecion. He is able to make clones after all. When it comes to Ressurecion, I would easily give that spot to Starrk or Segunda Etapa Ulquiorra.
It has to do with technique. He explained this. He alone has mastered Sonido to the point that he was able to make a new technique from it, which allowed him to greate 5 tangible after images, dopplegangers, to fight his opponent. He basically does Naruto's Multi-Shadow clone Jutsu with nothing but sheer speed. Not even Stark can do that.

I personally believe that after release, Stark is probably the strongest espada by a fair margin, but Ulquirorra having that Segunda etapa form makes him an almost unquantifiable variable, and would, in my opinion, place him alongside Stark

Starrk was arguably the only Espada who ever actually achieved his goal, and I feel like narratively it's best shown with his mirror opponent being Shunsui. Both are hands down the strongest of their group, Starrk being the only one who'd ascended to Arrancar before Aizen's interference and doing so only to have someone to talk to in Lillinette. He was so obscenely powerful that being in his presence was enough to kill anything else, so he split himself in two in order to not be lonely.
I think this is mirrored well with his opponent being Shunsui, in that both of them are unable to ever really go all out, without risking the destruction of what they hold dearest, and Starrk unfortunately experienced that when he lost Lillinette. Comparing their fight with Shunsui vs Lille Barro, it brings up the question of would the same thing had happened if Nanao was killed in front of Shunsui.
Starrk is the sadest Espada in my opinion. He wanted to avoid being alone, but in the end, he watched every single one of his companions die in front of him.
Starrk is one of my favorite Espada but it’s not hard to imagine why people downplay him. It doesn’t help that not one of the 4 captains he faced ever went Bankai on him, which always irritated me since fighting a Bankai user is the only thing he ever asked for and never got it. So while it’s true that he never went all out, the same can be said for all of his opponents. Yeah I think Kubo could’ve done a better job showcasing his strength as the Primera, like at least have Love use his Bankai on him.

To be fair, Hollowfication is akin to Bankai. So he did fight Bankai levek amps even if he didn't fight their actual Bankai forms.

They hated being alone and killing everyone close to them, so they separated themselves to never be alone

I don't remember where, but i think Kubo said that when he kills someone, he waits for the right moment. If he thinks the moment isn't cool or dramatic enough, then they'll survive.
I kind of get that with Stark. It was a tragic, pitiful end. It felt like one of the good guys died, not one of the "bad" guys. I honestly feel that the emotional impact and weight of the battle would have been lessened if he had survived.
Fan theory hot take. Two of the wolves left the battlefield secretly and reformed into Starrk and Lilynette later on.
@@chaossin7425 might not be far from the truth. Kubo does end of chapter sketches to show glimpses into underlying things happening, and Stark and Lillynette are shown as 2 Coyotes. When Stark dies, only one wolf dies while the other sadly lowers their snout to sniff at the body. In the next chapter ending, it's lying down and resting its head on its dead companion.
Lillynette might still be alive in some form. Even though the anime went out of its way to make it seem like she died.
Also remember stark was NOT powered up by the Hoygokyu. All other Espadas were. Be he and Lillinet are the same in the flash back as they were in Las Noches. That also speaks to his raw power and capabilities.

As much as I love Halibel and Grimmjow, Starrk is the one espada I truly wish had survived the war. He was my favorite from the jump and his reveal as the #1 espada made my day when it was revealed. Imagine how much of a force he could've been against the quincy invasion.
At the end of the day, the Battle of Karakura Town boils down to this:
Aizen put four Vasto Lordes against five Captains and the Captain-Commander and fully expected them to win. As soon as the fourth Vasto Lorde showed up, all three of the others stepped up more or less untouched. Aizen's line referring to "What's about to happen here" even implied that he wasn't going to get his hands dirty finishing the Captains off: he was just going to watch. Starrk and Wonderweiss had already eliminated Shunsui and Ukitake; Soifon had one arm and no energy left to fight Barragan; and Hitsugaya had also drained his energy fighting Harribel. Had the Vizards not arrived and distracted Starrk, the man probably would have soloed everyone except the Captain Commander--and I doubt he would succumb as easily to punches when Wonderweiss used Extinguir.
There's a reason why I only give Starrk the L to a handful of Sternritters.
Starrk would still lose if shunsui wasn't nerfed for 3/4 of the fight.

@seldomsane5278 it's not that shunsui intentionally hid his power. It's that he himself had no control over it. Katen kyokotsu is the one that controls the games shunsui uses. Due to that, a nerfed shunsui HAD to use his bankai, not because his shikai wasn't strong enough, but because it was the only option left. Shunsui also had survived an attack from starrk that was meant to take shunsui out when statrk said aizen couldn't wait any longer.

Starrk could’ve been dangerous if he were to actually fight seriously in the beginning. I feel like his laziness and unwillingness to fight makes alot of people think he shouldn’t have been num. 1 Espada.

He wasn't even trying, threw the fight and was depressed while fighting all while he was blasting his enemies with permanukes like it was nothing, that's all you need to know about his potential. @bigjc5546 I disagree. If Ulquiorra was stronger than Starrk he'd either be number 1 or at the very least his number would have changed the way Yami's did. Especially since they were introduced and sort of kept together as a pair. It wouldn't make sense for Yami to have a number change post transformation and Ulquiorra doesn't get the same courtesy. If anything it would add more to the story if that happened.
Starrk on the other hand split his soul to compensate for his solitude and also weaken himself enough so that an entity can survive around him even if the entity in question is his own soul. All the espada wandered alone before Aizen came along, none had an effect on their surroundings so impactful that creatures (OF THE SAME SPECIES) would die by coming near him. And with the way his power works in the series, I'd say he never gets to use his real power because even though he joined with Lilinette, she remained a separate entity both as a gun and a wolf. She could even act on her own. With that, I'd say he's stronger than Ulquiorra and just a little below Vasto Lorde Ichigo. He would have performed much better if he and Ulquiorra swapped places in that fight.
Stark is like Fern, from Frieren. Only does the basics, but is so heinously proficient and fast that it's still overkill.

I hate when they use the "he was defeated with just a Shikai" to downplay Starrk. Katen Kyokotsu is a top tier Shikai, It is strong enough to force the leader of the Schutzstaffel to activate his Holy Form. You could downplay Starrk if he was defeated by a shikai like Zabimaru or Hozukimaru, but he wasn't. He was defeated by a Hax shikai.
And it was a sneak attack too
Karen kyokotsu is an extremely Hax shikai. Especially when you consider games like iro-oni effectively negate or soft-negate the opponents own abilities. I'd go as far as to compare it to kyouka suigetsu in the sense that it is a shikai that is outright more powerful than several bankais.
Starrk is strong enough to almost force kyoraku to use his bankai. I think that's enough said already

After seeing his bankai I understood why Kyoraku just CONSIDERING the need to use it is such a big deal.

Stark is greatly underestimated by the community but... people forget his backstory so often. Stark was so immensely powerful in his original state that it literately killed those around him. Much like a human would dissolve from just being close to a captains spiritual pressure... except this is against other hollows... and even after drastically reducing his powers his strength was enough that Aizen made him the Primera and more importantly that Barragon was okay with it.
At the end all the espadas are weak in comparison to Quincy's

I think Stark like Ginjo, would probably have been a Soul King candidate. Simply because of his nature of constant evolution. He was the only one to transcend normal hollow bounds (before Ulquiorra light novel retcons) and I think his aspect of death was most like "God", loneliness, and allowed him his evolution to attempt to cure it. I think if Stark had continued to feel alone, he wouldve broken the hollow shinigami boundaries even further like Aizen and become maybe even something resembling Ichigo in terms of being a more complete Hybrid but not quite perfect Hybrid like Ichigo. The more loneliness he felt maybe the more he would evolve into a more complete being. Giving Hueco Mundo its own powerhouse like Ichigo and a proper King, but keeping him below ichigo in power, for the sake of story.

And on top of that Yhwach is able to split his soul and given the universe's rules he can draw back the powers from the then split soul back. He seems to be the hollow equivalent of Yhwach as a hollow, and maybe even the balancing force opposite of the soul king. GREAT video !! underrated character!!

Starrk was worthy even if his character was not enthusiastic or battle hungry. In fact that's what makes him so memorable and admirable, he was powerful yet only wanted friends while being opposed to bloodshed while even giving opponents a chance to flee not wanting to kill. He and Lillinet would've been better off with Ichigo and company.

I do think Starrk is the strongest espada. I knew Ulquiorra had a better showing but I never thought he was that powerful. He was facing Ichigo, who had not tapped into much of his potential yet, and was an emotional wrack. Ulquiorra stood no chance with horned ichigo, which I personally scaled roughly the same as the white hollow who fought Isshin, a senior captain in shikai. Harribel was fighting a kid captain and Baraggan was fighting a teenager captain. Kyoraku's shikai is probably more broken than both of young captain's bankai at this point.
As for the cero ability, I'd like to refer to another great anime Frieren. Zoltraak can be the most lethal magic when used by Frieren and Fern, and Starrk is that kind of master user.

Good video. Starrk is basically Shunsui's counterpart as Arrancar, he's crazy strong but needs to get in the mood or he nefrs himself (see Kyoraku losing an eye to Robert while the same captain in shikai owned base Lille). That's all.
If people complain that his ability, simply firing ceros, is basic, well, that's true, but does it matter? I like too more complex abilities, but look at Ichigo, who just fires GS all the same. The raw power is combined with the other fighting abilities, that you perfectly analyzed, and then, to fire all those ceros, without a blink, one must possess a huge amount of reiatsu. Cero Metralleta and the pack of wolves are just broken, sad we didn't see a Gran Rey Cero from him.
Sad for the screentime, and overall almost all the Espadas (except Grimmjow and Ulquiorra, I say Nnoitra too) were played dirty, moving some fans to downlook at them. Despite Starrk wanted to see a bankai, no one used it against him, but c'mon, he's the only Espada who faced 4 captains (in sequence), two of them were among the strongest of the Gotei, and he didn't sweat at all during the whole fight.
His end indeed felt a bit rushed and strange. Even one like Shunsui had to stab him in the back to deliver a (first) critical hit, indeed the Primera lost his motivation (he was really emotional), but then was weird, not summoning his wolves anymore (in the manga) and opting for a sword fight. He still matched Kyoraku for a while, until he tricked him again, dirty again. Overall, I don't see a real demerit in his end.

My personal headcanon is that the discrepancy between the significance in the numbering of the Espada is because Aizen used a different criteria when he took control than was used previously to justify his moving people up and down in the ranking. It makes sense that Barrigan, the previous king of Hueco Mundo wouldn’t have accepted s legitimate Aizen’s new system and would refer to the old one.
Starrk has always been one of my favourite characters, and probably the one that my mind often drifts back to the most. Battle wise despite his immense strength he utilised his analytical skills in the fight, pulled his punches where his opponents were not, and it took Shunsui taking advantage of Starrk being completely distracted (and thinking he was already knocked out of the fight) before anyone was able to deal any damage to the guy. Characterisation wise there's something about Starrk's particular brand of apathy that I've always resonated with. Kind of like Saitama from OPM, strength has never brought him joy and has left him feeling directionless and listless. His death still feels so unnecessary, and really wish he was able to appear in the TYBW arc.
Does anyone know if fans have asked about Starrk on Klub Outside? Be interested to know if Kubo had given any thought to the guy since his death.
Stark is an object lesson in mastery of the fundamentals. He’s not flashy but, still one of the most lethal Hollows.
I've always loved thinking about the significance of his hole being so small, like he was depressed about being a hollow and the loneliness of it, and became as close to human/shinigami as absolutely possible

It's a shame he's a collateral damage by Kubo's preservation of Kyoraku's Bankai for the last arc.
whoa, i was surprised we have the same opinion with Cero for "zero" kills.
Kubo downgraded this powerful attack by using it as a hype attack only and with ZERO kills through out the story.
Only for kyoraku to get shot by fodder and lose an eye which is absolutely idiotic.
To be honest. Even when Starkk took things more serious, you can’t believe he still went ALL OUT. If he did, Love and Rose be dead and Shunsui would have to Bankai regardless of those around him.

The Kenpachi comparison really baffled me for some reason. I never thought about how similar they must be in terms of power level until now.
The subtext to Starrk implies pretty clearly that he's the strongest hollow in the source material and it's not even close.
His spiritual pressure passively soul crushing other hollows to death en-mass is a feat the likes of which we've only seen equivalents of from Yamamoto, 3rd form Aizen and (I suppose now circa TYBW cour 2) Senjumaru.
The fact that he's evolved so much as a hollow to essentially transcend the bestial theme of the race and has become more or less "human" beyond that of any of his contemporaries in the upper ranks of the espada is another huge tell as falling short of what Starrk is is the lofty goal that Grimmjow's gang were pursuing before becoming arrancars.
Aizen is a scientist and, though conniving, I don't see him as someone who would ever inaccurately rank his subordinates in a hierarchy. In addition, Starrk is weird in that he's explicitly the only one of Aizen's subordinates that Aizen has some special respect for and I'd argue it's due to kinship in being that far beyond their fellows.
Aizen is content to sit back and watch the battle in Fake Karakura until Starrk falls, at which point he writes off the entire Espada idea as a waste before dealing with the Gotei 13 himself.
I think the rest of the big points were covered in the video, save for maybe that Starrk is a natural arrancar and probably wasn't enhanced by the hogyoku.

@@ΚρανίΩ, I don't think Segunda Etapa is like a "hollow bankai" so much as it's like one of the elder captains with multi-stage bankai effects. Murciélago's second stage, if anything (as an arrancar's release makes them "fully hollow" again), would just be the equivalent of a power making him more "hollow" which though powerful is kinda the antithesis of what a Vasto Lorde embodies.
It's the rejection of being monstrous AKA becoming more like Starrk that concludes Ulquiorra's arc.
I think it could reasonably be argued that Ulquiorra may have eclipsed Halibel with Segunda Etapa and Aizen just hadn't done anything to change ranks in the period where that's relevant, but I think surpassing Starrk or Barragan is a hard sell.
Keep in mind that Ulquiorra literally claimed that 3 Espada outclassed him to Ichigo and he's a little too straightlaced to falsely boast of his faction's powers simply for the sake of intimidation.

@@Blackmustache870 Yammi is slow, and his skills are notoriously bad. He may have been the strongest Espada, but he was far from the most dangerous. Fighting Yammi is like fighting a Dark Souls boss, as long as you don't get hit, victory is only a matter of when, and not if. Also, don't forget, he was also dealing with Bankai Byakuya too. Hence why Kenpachi called the fight a bore despite having to remove his eyepatch and (implied in the manga) remove a mental seal. Remember, Kenpachi, with his eyepatch on, was trashing first release Yammi, yet that same Kenpachi, without his eyepatch, got effortlessly perception blitzed by base Stark. Stark could have casually taken his and Ichigo's heads then and there if he wanted.
Oh, and not to mention how the top 4 Espada were forbidden from using their ressurection within Los Noches because they would destroy the entire place, yet Yammi never came close to destroying it and made no sign that he was even threatening the Canopy, like when Grimmjow used his Gran Ray Cero.
Stark and Barragan may not have the BS hax and pseudo immortality of the Schutzstaffel, but power and skill wise, they are definitely up there.

Yammy already had 0 in his initial releases power, so even in tgat state he would beat tge other 4. Tge espada ranks r based on overall power. In a direct fight, tge hugger rank will beat the lower rank no matter what. So it just means rgat yammys power in general is so far above the others tgat it's all he needs to beat them.

stark felt like that hidden powerhouse kind, while the others are fancy, flashy and memorable like ulqiora, stark's power is pretty simple, but overwhelmingly effective, it's basically as other people said, a homing infinite nuke, and the fact that it's just that is even crazier as that means it's practically still a blank state, means stark still probably has room for improvement if he actually polish his power more, i felt like a random guy from one punch man reading news about caped baldy when i write this, because i see similarities in their treatment from certain perspective
I always thought that the espada ranking was questionable since Segunda Etapa. If Aizen never saw it, then Ulqiorra's rank isn't accurate.
I'm not a TYBW guy so this may no longer be accurate, but I always thought Stark and Barragan were done the dirtiest of the villains.
Stark may beat Barragan in terms of power and combat ability and in a legitimate fight, but I've never considered Barragan to need that. I don't know if it's a vasto lorde thing, but Barragan's release form is literally just his original hollow form. The "power up" of making him an arrancar didn't change his true appearance at all.
And in terms of Respira, he needed to have an actual defense against his own ability in the time dialation field, it was that powerful. He was only defeated when that was bypassed and his ability was used against him. Something to note, Respira basically killed barragan instantly, while Soifon's bankai in an enclosed space only cracked his skull. At the end of the day, neither of these guys were being beat legitimately.
I do love how he shouts Stark to command the wolves. Not just being his name but the German word Stark meaning strong really just fits.

I’m addicted ti Stark untealeased ost ! I listen to it so much time because I feel a strong connection to him. Not him being the strongest but him feeling a deep solitude and loneliness because of it. It’s sad his fate was like that because his potential could’ve been insane further into the series. Rest in Peace, Coyote Stark.
These are ranks specially given to them. There is a hierarchy in the arancars obviously and they all mean to honor it but, in my own generalizations.
I believe that the ranks aren’t only given in terms of lethality but in relation to how they use it and I think that idea supports the ranking system with a more concise filter.
As you stated in the video, there are many discussions and debates on who really is the strongest espada, we’ve been given troves of evidence and feats to support them.
However out of all the espadas, Starks personality stands out more than the rest and his approach to anything he’s involved in be it a fight or discussion. His battle IQ was genius , his reactions, anything he involved himself in was always thought out. He’s well aware of his immense power but he doesn’t flaunt it, he almost treats it with empathy and kindness to even his opponents.
He’s a solider swinging his sword out of duty. His personality towards being the prime is so dismissive, I guarantee if given the choice he’d gladly give that spot to anyone else.
I believe he’s the perfect example of someone cursed with power and knowledge, his cynicism and nihilism were his only downfall along with his lackadaisical approach towards a war he was forced into. He didn’t care and he didn’t care if he lost, he wanted an excuse out. He was kind and caring to those involved with him because no matter who they are or were, it was a better option than being alone. A choice between a void of loneliness or sought out solitude. It’s so immense and maddening it would leave anyone, Stark-raving sad.
I always thought Stark was the perfect example of true strength. When you're truly strong there's no need for fancy tricks.
I think Starrk's wolves are the perfect counter to respira. Why? It's very simple. There's only one thing in bleach that's actually immune to the effects of aging and that's the actual soul. The soul cannot be destroyed in bleach except by a Quincy. Every being is reincarnated over and over again in different forms, but still possessing the same soul. Starrk's wolves are made of his soul. A lot of people don't think about the implications and why that ability puts him above Barragan. It's not far fetched to think about because there's a lot of religious inspiration in bleach and across a ton of religions, the soul is eternal. Also, Kubo could've just said that the wolves are made out of Reiatsu but they aren't. They are made of starrk's very soul.
Well you see it is a lie, when souls "die"/dissipate, it becomes party of the spiritual world, all that talk about reencarnation is all an lie, in the latest chapter we have it is said that souls that are too dense to dissipate need to go to hell or will be clinging in the spirity world

It's their spiritual pressure that is reabsorbed into the soul society, not their souls. Don't forget in bleach, spiritual beings still possess a soul. The hogyoku was hidden inside Rukia's soul. Spiritual pressure isn't the same as the soul.
When captain class Shinigami die, their spiritual pressure is too dense to be reabsorbed into the soul society, so they send them to hell instead. The implication is that their spiritual body cannot be broken down and reabsorbed, the soul is contained within the spiritual body and so it's sent to hell with the captain.
Did you forget that Aizen wanted to use the sokyoku to completely destroy Rukia's soul so he could get the hogyoku? He failed, so he used another device that bypasses the spiritual body in order to touch her soul and obtain the hogyoku.

It is implied that the souls that form in the world of the living are coming from individuals dying in the soul society that were born there. Otherwise there wouldn't really be a balance issue that the quencies were causing

"Was he worthy of holding the Primera Espada title?" -> Definitely. Like a lot of people, I'm still pissed about the Cero Espada and how the hierarchy changed, but I do believe he was the strongest.
"Did you like that he was the master of the Cero, or was that a little underwhelming to you? Was it a bit disappointing?" -> Oh, fuck no! I LOVED this ability!! It's simple, but it's amazing. The colours; the sound (in the anime, of course); the destructive power; the variations. Everything was great. Him being a master of the Cero was just perfect for me: the strongest Espada mastered the strongest Hollow technique. I just don't like the colour of his Cero, but that's just me. Blue suits him, as it's a lighter colour. I think it suits someone who doesn't like violence, and would rather just talk it out, if possible, and if it's not possible to talk it out, then just pretend it is, and not dealing with it.
