There are absolutely wonderful kids loft bed over desk/study area ideas on tge web. The study area has bookshelves & a couch that opens or doubles as a bed. It would be easy to add a clothes rod for hanging clothes as well. Your home is very simple elegance. I absolutely love love the huge plate glass window as it brings the outdoors in. I'm guessing your windows have screens to keep the bugs out?

Those windows are the staple of a Hawaii plantation home. They do work! For the kids, they love climbing and sliding. If you have a rainy/monsoon season, it is such a good way for the kiddos to get their energy out when the weathers not so great. So loft beds, spaces, anything fun, is a great idea!
Great idea for the kids. We do have some downtime most days for reading or playing quiet games to reset and although a lot of that time is spent together in the living room I also think Arlo and filly would love having a cozy bedroom spot too 🥰

What an amazing effort. Your children get to experience island life and your away from the craziness of suburban living and consumerism. I was in Samoa for awhile and i remember everything smelled a bit musty because of the humidity. The sheets, our rooms and clothes. I loved the abundance of fresh tropical produce and seafood. Awesome job. Your home is so well done and beautifully situated. I loved this content too.
Yes the mould is a massive problem... I often think about how we have moved into the thick of the jungle here and how much fungi and mould must exist naturally... I am very lucky to have a good washing machine and dryer for our clothing... and sunshine helps with it too :) good old UV! Agree that our kids are experiencing the best of life in nature!!
Wow. You guys are living my absolute dream. The love you share with each other and with your kids is palpable. It's Utopia. Seriously, I don't say that just to say it. You are living in Eden. But it's a modern Eden, with moisture problems, kid problems, laundry day being every day, and all that goes along with raising three children. But it's still EDEN. You should be extremely proud of yourselves. I don't know you, but I'm proud of you, too! Just keep on the way you're going and your lives, and the lives of your children, will flourish in every way. Thanks so much for the house tour. It looks amazing now, let alone when you have made the improvements you mention you are planning. Having lived on the island, I know completely how important it is to have somewhere private to live, even more so given you have a young family. You need that normality. When I was there I remember "no internet, only short wave radio", "cold water showers" (so painful when you have long hair, ha ha) and tropical humidity destroying my camera and lenses over time! . In spite of all those aspects, Uepi has a special place in my heart and my memories! It is wonderful to see how the resort has developed. I subscribed way back when you started your youtube channel and look forward to every new video. Congratulations on your new home ❤
Yes I think jase and I were managing ok in the resort area previously before having kids but really felt it was not working for us after the pandemic as the kids were that bit older… now we have much clearer boundaries for our family and privacy so that we can do a better job for the resort too. Plus the extra steps 😂 not that we need them honestly but it keeps us moving!!
We still have cold water showers 😂 but now starlink and that old short wave radio became little Arlo’s toy when he was about 1 year old.
I do believe in the Uepi effect so it’ll always be a part of you 😊

The algorithm suggested this video, and I'm glad it did! What a fantastic lifestyle you seem to have! Your children are incredibly fortunate! I've met quite a few people in my day, who grew up on islands in tropical oceans in different parts of the world, living in an entirely different pace, without electronic and social stressors, close to nature, peacefully, and all of them are SO grateful for their childhood, and adore their home island and all that it's meant to them.
Your home is fantastic, what a feat building this on site from sawing the timber, to installing the tech, to cabinets from local materials. I love the paired back design, the pitched roof and the beautiful windows throughout.
I understand you live quite a uniquely priviliged life, involving a resort you built, and that one of you grew up living here. So yes, you could have built something more adorned and luxe- looking to reflect that, but I understood from the intro that's not what you're about. I also know from experience what its like to live too small with a family, and to live at work, and to work in hospitality. I'm amazed you managed for as long as you did living with very little privacy from guests (who whether they realize it or not, will look for personal contact day or night if its that easy to pop your head in).
I think it's very easy for people to romanticize this lifestyle, who haven't any of these experiences, and haven't lived even on grid Island life, or a life in the tropics. I can tell from some of the comments.
Being new to your channel I have SO many questions naturally, but will subcribe and try to catch up a bit, I'm sure many will be answered in your vlogs.
I'll ask only a few, hope you don't mind? Firstly, I understand you have resident company staff to run your business, help you keep your beaches tidy too.
Your private beach reminded me of one I lived with for a while, in a different location in the tropics, on an island. I was sonewhat shocked at the sheer amounts of trash that washed up daily all over the beach. Old fishing nets, and plastic plastic plastic beached on the sand with all the kelp and seaweed. I spent alot of time on a daily basis cleaning that up, only to start over the next day. You're in a more remote location, do you have the same problems?
Also, what do you do with all the plastic containers, spent flipflops and other non compostable toxic junk you can't just bin at a recycling station?
I'm really interested.
Also, looking at this footage I was thinking that very smart septic set up, is "easily accessedc now, but the jungle being the jungle, not for long.
Wouldn't it make sense to build some for of structure and above it? I'm just assuming that will be covered in undergrowth and strong vegetation in a matter of months! Loved that" accessible" croc too btw 😂.
Diesel generator... Hmm. Isn't your location perfect for solar power?
I know it's expensive to install and panels would need to be above canopy level to be most effective as your energy consuming modcoms are up to regular on grid standards. But to my mind, diesel powered is neither environmentally friendly nor economically sustainable long term. I understand all your decisions involve site specific challenges, and I know nothing about these. But you're running a resort as well, so I'd assume solar power would at least cut the use of diesel substantially?
Lastly, I think your idea of a mezzanine for the kids is great. I built one, for a big bed, and it was very appreciated. With the jungle outside, if the idea is a reading nook, why not make use of a few slender gnarly tree trunks or branches and build it like a cosy tree top platform? A book tree!
If any of you have artistic talent, that would be easily done, and a fun project!
Any family more focused on reading than television is my kind of people!
(I don't own one, although I do use my laptop for youtube, news, and the occasional movie night, besides admin) my livingroom, bedroom and kitchen has no screen on the wall, no focus on such distractions, and my library is one of my favorite features in my home. Constantly changing.

Hi there!! Wow :-) I can tell that you have thought about your comments and we really appreciate having you join our community here as your perspective is refreshing. There sure is a great deal that goes in to maintaining this lifestyle and lately many of the comments (probably as we reach a wider audience) tend to be those who have little understanding of what a remote, off grid, island lifestyle, with a family and running a business might actually be like - but I can genuinely say our intentions with sharing it is to show what alternative lifestyles like ours are like and maybe encourage others to strive for achieving their ideal life. Your questions are all great - and I'll try to answer some here and in future videos.
Our new home is very much a dream come true.. and we sure are privileged!! It has come about from a lot of hard work and dedication. It was 1000% necessary for us to give our family more privacy and we know it was the best decision ever! It's not over the top to want enough space for our family and our design was smart in terms of minimising maintenance and having sufficient comforts while keeping it minimal. We know how lucky we are :)
The septic in the jungle does require some maintenance to ensure it's not overgrown - we are leaving the jungle for now to hide it and prefer not having a roof over it as excessive leaf litter damages roofing materials anyway.. in our experience the dug in tanks like we have are working well :) ... We are VERY excited to transition to Solar energy here - 100% it is the best option and for a multitude of reasons we want to reduce diesel consumption, primarily due to the impact environmentally but from a cost perspective it's also a no brainer. We plan to talk more about Solar switch in our videos as we progress. So, it's on the cards and has been for a long time, the hold up being finances post a 3 year business closure during the pandemic where we managed to survive here with zero income... We started our channel in the pandemic because we were isolated and somewhat disconnected / lonely / stuck! You might enjoy some of those early episodes.. Much has changed since then.
We do have waste wash up from the lagoon and open ocean sadly. However it is not as severe as other parts of the world, still deserving of attention. We all spend time collecting trash on the seaside. Earlier this year we discovered a dead turtle on our shore and it likely suffered it's demise from ocean plastics. An ever demanding side of our life is cleaning the oceans and striving to use less plastic.

Early in the video I saw one of your children standing in what I presumed was a draw. I paused the video and wrote a note in my kitchen ideas list. "Draws that are actually steps that pull out and lock for the kids to help at the bench"

We moved to an island just off the coast of Alabama USA, (which is about 1.5 hrs from where we grew up) 6 yrs ago, it’s named Dauphin Island. Wow beautiful! Wonderful design guys and it's amazing how you have made your materials!! For anti mould/mildew you could make little packets to pop around your home. Fill with activated charcoal with eucalyptus oil. Also use vinegar when you wash your clothes/linens, it will soften them plus kill mould spores. Use tea tree oil and/or vinegar to wipe down surfaces. Hope this helps, you probably already do these things lol.
You can also get a great orange oil product from bunnings for cleaning. Smells great, is natural and great for timber
ahh thank you for the tips.. I do use vinegar and have tea tree oil but have never actually used in my washing. I tend to use on surfaces but haven't had great success honestly... I wonder if it just requires persistence to kill the spores. A never ending problem... but I am going to try in my washing and could definitely try with the charcoal and euc oil packets hmmm thank you again

I remember back in 50s doing some Nuclear test down their for USA & French. We actually didn't even let the local know about it just tested underground and underwater a few small ones about the war.

What a fantastic experience you are giving your family - evening entertainment of firefly’s and stars and creatures - not on a screen. I can honestly say I’m still trying to simplify .. I’d love to be a true minimalist but I find it near on impossible with children. I’ve also just learnt as the year go by here on the island that it’s best to keep what you can use or it soon is a problem (moldy, perished, whatever). So that was also our mindset with design to ensure we didn’t go over the top and end up storing too much stuff. Thanks so much for watching 😊 one of these days I’ll try capture the magic of fireflies by my window.. for now I’m sitting in bed ready for them tonight 🥰

You home is lovely! We lived in the Philippines for a couple of years, so I really relate to the issues caused by high humidity.
Yes the humidity makes it really difficult to keep things clean! But the dry cupboards do help... bugs are an issue too!

Don't know how I stumbled across this channel but now I'm subscribed. You guys are living my dream! So many Pacific island cultures but one thing they share is being so kind and loving. It's a beautiful thing to experience. I just wish I could convince my wife to move over to our own patch of paradise

A truly beautiful house and lifestyle the private beach is just stunning, I have recently lost my house because of illness it wasn’t anything as beautiful as your home but it was my sanctuary! I live in mid Wales and the mountains and forests are stunning I don’t have a private beach though that must be awesome!

The huge deck reminds me of the main kitchen area. We love Uepi so much as you both know. What I like the best about your tour was basically everything I've never seen such a unique clean comfortable house and I too am a lover of birds and wildlife and the outdoors so I would love living with you guys do you need a nanny I'll fly over today I can only imagine that would be amazing I would do it in a heartbeat I'm Kathy from West Virginia which is located in the United States I'm a grandmother to nine grandchildren your little ones are adorable you two make a fabulous couple and did an amazing video tour I love everything about how organized everything is super clean convenient and it's like a hassle-free home and to have a beach that you call your own the amazing things that you get to learn and teach the children that comes from the ocean I mean that life would just be amazing so I'm going to binge watch I'm a new subscriber I just found you today as I was scrolling through videos to watch cuz I can't sleep happy to meet you guys hopefully one day I can meet you in person that would be amazing even though I'm thousands of miles away I can't imagine being you guys and living the life that you're living seeing the amazing things that you see and hear all the amazing birds and lizards and just what all do you see in a rainforest

What a dreamy house. We could say "How lucky you are", but it's not luck; it's a lot of time, effort, money, problems to solve, but all worth it. I have to ask now: there was something moving, down by the septic tanks. What was that? It looks like a comodo dragon, but white.
Thank you and you are so correct... it is a rewarding and challenging lifestyle that we wouldn't trade!!! The lizard is a Monitor Lizard... here they are called an Erebachi :) very cool!
@@TheIslandLifeofUs Thank you for the reply. Today, that image of the slow moving creature, came to mind, at the same time with the name Monitor. It's actually beautiful, but one huge beast, lol. Have you ever come face to face with one, or had one come really close to your dwelling? Do you consider it a danger?
@@DreambigGabriela they’re no danger to us. Yes over the years we’ve had them in the house and I’ve even had some smaller ones on the deck of our new home lol always a fun time chasing them away! Beautiful lizards and often found here laying flat on the path in the sunshine ☀️
