I heard tables are hard for the ATS Resume scanners to read. Would rely more on tabs/spaces/custom indentation

Your videos are very interesting, but I wonder how applicable is your review when it comes to looking for jobs globally. For example, in Europe, it's important to paste your photo (professionally taken) in the resume, or so I have heard.
A question: do you look at the resumes from a professional (at a university) standpoint, or rather an HR (in a company) standpoint?

I can't really comment on the norms for other countries since all my professional experience is US-based. Additionally, my background is in STEM so I can't really comment on what is or isn't considered for different fields. That being said, the input I'm giving should be helpful regardless of the format (e.g., making sure that you tell the story you want to tell etc.)
I'm looking at the resumes from the perspective of an engineering professor who has also spent a few years in industry.

Hot take: if a job recruiter isn't going to take the time to sit down and read your resume, you don't want to work there. The fact of the matter is that 99% of job applications nowadays get screened by a computer and automatically rejected before a human ever reads it. If you have made it to the stage where a human is looking at the resume it's best to put everything on there. If the job is interested, they are going to read what you have to say. If the job is going to nitpick about fonts, capitalizations and whether the resume is longer than one page, it's probably a toxic workplace and you dodged a bullet.

It's always best to put your best foot forward. Same reason you don't want to wear a t-shirt and swim shorts to a job interview.

@@petrasswissler8001 I agree to a certain extent. Make sure the resume is neat, make sure it's legible, those are good things. I just don't think it's necessary to obsess over whether a resume it's shorter than one page or how long each bullet point is. I personally don't want to work for a place that would disqualify a candidate for trivial things.

well, depends upon your field. The average human recruiter looks at your resume for 6 seconds.

@@ranger.1 I don't think that's true anymore. 99% of applications get autorejected by a computer. Even so, do you really want to work for a place that only looks at your resume for 6 seconds? If they aren't taking the time to actually look at your experience before an interview, it's a good sign the company wouldn't actually care about you as an employee.
