Hi Pirate king, thanks for the resume link, I made a copy and edited it. However, when I tried saving the pdf, your header with your details was saved with it, I am not sure how to get it off, as I can not see it when editing only after saving as a PDF. I would appreciate any help.
@@pearlr.2411 double click the header area to edit it. If it doesn’t show up, google how to show header/make edits
@@PIRATEKINGDOM Thank you SO MUCH. You have really helped a struggling tech newbie potentially save 52$. Thank you. Nakama for life!

Thank you PK!!
Amazing video! If I may, I’d like to suggest a few more (as a hiring manager)
1. If your resume is dense, it’s ok to bold critical information.
2. Use the “So What?” test. After reading about your contribution, the reviewer shouldn’t think, “So what?”
3. It’s ok to have different versions of resumes for different companies or roles.
Apologies if unsolicited suggestions are not welcome.
Thanks for the suggestions, loved the “so what” test. Even if unsolicited by the creator, it def helps people in the comments.
Your suggestions and insights are highly appreciated! Thank you very much!
should I add a summary/about me section as I am a fresher
I have some questions:
1. I’ve been rejected from about 50 interviews. (In the last one they found the excuse that I could have given more examples. There must have been 20 to 30 perfectly given interviews with no feedback at all. The feedback I got from a lot of them is that they went for another candidate).
2. Before the pandemic it only took around 4 interviews to secure a new role
3. I went to a top business school and have half a decade of experience working for blue chip companies
4. *I’ve been given the advice by some corporate operatives that I could still somehow secure a role at a top company even if I’ve been unemployed for half a dozen years*
*Is it discrimination? Is it bias because there is money involved? I would just like to know what is going on as I’m being forced to retire early abroad/take a career break in the summer*..
@@jahualhaq9853
1. Giving honest feedback is an unnecessary liability for the company.
2. I don't think it's ever that predictable of how many interviews required to secure a role.
3 and 4: No one knows you better than you. Hate to say it, but companies also have their rights to choose their "best" candidate.
Is it discrimination? When is it not?
Is it bias? For whatever reasons, everyone is biased.
You get what you take, not what you deserve.
I really appreciate you time, efforts, and expertise in guiding us to a strong resume build. The day I downloaded your template, and modify it with my personal info, I got 2 job interviews on the same day that I started sending them! Before that I've sent more than 100+ resume and haven't got a phone call. Thank you soo much for the template and info shared through the video.
I feel like it's pertinent to mention that the structure of your resume really depends on your expertise in the field you are applying for. If you're entry-level and currently working on a project, you might want to add a link in your resume to that specific project. This gives the resume reviewer immediate knowledge that you are actively applying yourself. You should still link your general repository address in the header, though.
Time to remake my resume for the 100th time XD
It’s not his resume that got him into Google, (and not even his degree) but the University’s name (Carnegie Mellon) where he was graduated.
My patience is running thin with folks who are privileged but can’t see they are privileged and give lessons to others less well off than them by showing “the resume that got me into X and Y” yet it’s their attendance to a prestigious organization that got them in there.
@@lpmlearning2964 I acknowledge your statement. But I don't think we can complain about them being privileged cuz it takes hardwork to get accepted into those unis. Instead of being depressed about what we don't have, we should try what we can even if it will increase our chances by as little as 0.2. We will have to work harder for our shortcomings.
@Thar Lin Shwe Thanks, but I don’t think we got any shortcomings. Not having the money to go to a prestigious Uni is not a shortcoming. Not being able to study in high school, or not having the same set of opportunities to exploit so you can show off and to go to those Universities; These are not shortcomings. I’m curious if everyone who is willing to flex their CVs are equally willing to include in those CVs how easy they had it before being admitted there. Let’s see if they would look equally bright as someone who actually did not have it as easy and still managed to get in.
@@lpmlearning2964 If you see his 12 years of his life as software engineer video, you will see that his Carnegie Mellon name doesn't really help him that much in the first few years after he graduated. It mays help, but I think most of his achievements are based on his hardwork, not only the name of the university. Saying the prestige of university to dismiss the person's hardworks is quite offensive imo.
@@lpmlearning2964 not every CMU graduate gets an offer from Google dude
This is one of the most informational "tip" videos I have ever seen. Every single one was applicable and added value to my resume. Thank you!
These points are actually 100% accurate, speaking from personal experience here. Would legit send this to anyone seeking resume advice
this has been one of the most clear and helpful resume videos i've seen!
now that's what I call an informative and practical video. keep it up, king!
One of the most helpful resume videos I've watched on UA-cam-TY!
I normally don't comment on videos like these, but this was extremely helpful knowledge, stating many more impactful points than any other resume video I've seen! I'm currently a 3rd year uni student, and although I don't have a ton of work experience quite yet, I do have many projects I have worked on over the years, so I will definitely be including everything I can above education!!
Thanks so much for this! I was just wanting to update my resume, and appreciate your practical tips. It's also really nice that you use Google doc to conveniently share your resume for editing (the same method I use for maintaining my resume).
Shared this with my learning group for financial analysts! Can’t thank you enough for the boost of confidence
Thank you so much! I wish growth to your channel, you are doing a really great job, Pirate King!
I’ve been checking the best SWE resumes for years and this is the best one I’ve seen. Well done Daniel. I have a similar resume but has a second page, will definitely to try to update it in this format. Thanks for sharing and please keep sharing your knowledge :)
From where do you get this Format?
@@sanskarkaazi3830 I think you can use his own and edit it...The link is in the description, I am currently using PDF to edit his resume.
I just don't think there will ever come a time where my resume is good enough. Every month I switch something, but thank you for the insightful video!!
I don't comment much on YT but I have to say, this is excellent and goes beyond Software Engineer resumes specifics. Perfectly applies to my case in a whole different industry. Thanks!
This is the best resume I had ever seen! Thanks for the template.

Thank you very much for the content and Keep doing this amazing work.
Thank you very much! I had a mess in my head until I saw your video, I'm in the Cyber industry but it helped a lot with the template.
The thing that's exceptional about your video is that after you explain it. You say to yourself yeah that makes so much sense even though you never thought of it that way before.
Omg the part that you're exagarating achievement makes total sense, thx for that man 👍👍👍
Hey man. I am just an IT guy but I used your tip #6 and #7 with my experience at the top of my resume. I made the mistake of using certifications and schooling at the top before. Now, I have a follow-up from an established company in Houston (part of the Energy Corridor, actually) and I legitimately have you to thank for.
It is just one follow-up so far, but it's something. Thank you and the way you produce your videos is very well made.
This is gold that I was searching for and found it at last!
Thank you very much for your positive attitude and good advice!
Hey, I just wanted to say I am more of a "fix it" person and the way you were able to show what you can offer to a company and HOW to describe your duties was flawless. I realized what I needed to do and changed up the descriptions from "I do x, y, z" to "I have DONE x, y, z and it helped the company significantly with this total amount of sales, revenue etc. etc." and just by ACCURATELY stating what I've done and showing confidence I can proudly say that I have a wfh job now doing less and making more with a guaranteed 1+ year contract and Motorola reaching out to hire me. I just wanted to say thanks and that you and your channel are awesome! 😎😄
Woohoo! Congratulations! XD

this video is gold. thank you oppa!

Thank You for sharing PK!
I just wanted to leave a comment here cuz tip 5 made me smile. In Asia, alot of families force their children from an early age to be great at school so they can land at the best universities so they can land the best jobs. I'm not one of those people. I've been pressured to consider getting better grades to land a better university to put on my resume but seeing your advice gave me hope that experience, hardwork, and dedication (and what you've accomplished) speaks volumes to simply having better grades and hell even the highest GPA.
Thank you pirate king, Ive recently discovered your channel and im hoping to learn more from your videos.
I use this shit and the HRs loves it. Visually pleasing and modified it really well

Informative and would definitely use it!
This video is very helpful for me, thanks a lot!
This is a beautiful video. Can't wait to still overthink my 81st edit.
"People love modesty, but they don't hire it." God, I wish someone had told me that when I first started out! I used to undervalue myself so much on the job market, I would even lowball myself when it comes to salary, hoping that would make me a more attractive candidate.
I've wasted years of working at jobs and companies with lower than expected salaries as a result, and looking at where I am now, I'm better than I gave myself credit for.
I loved your video. I am struggling with so many rejections the past two weeks and honestly i truly believe was because of my resume and cover letter.
I did everything opposite of what you said and i always mention that i am a junior developer with no experience because i want to be honest lol.
I guess i will just keep it simple and use your resume template to start over. RIP to my 50 applications the past 2 weeks 😅
Love your edits bro
Good advice , thanks for the video , I've now heard from multiple sources that in a CV/resume that workplace experience should come before education if you have any experience :P
Great tips. I really enjoyed it.

YOU ARE AMAZING!
Thank a lot for this useful info! Definitely gonna use those tips and fix my current 3-pages CV😅😂
Overall some really good tips, which I am going to implement my self.
I think "i wished i lived in Seattle(or New York)" is pretty common for most novice programmers. There are plenty of remote work jobs, but so few if any are entry level positions. I get the feeling no matter how good my resume is, if i cant get actual experience doing an internship at a start up or somewhere im never going to get anywhere. i live in the middle of nowhere in a 3rd world country, so basically zero chances of an internship(even finding a normal job is difficult). At this point i'd even be happy with a non paid remote internship, but those are mostly reserved for people studying a CS degree.
these tips saved my life lol
Amazing. Thank you
thank you so muchhh !
I saw the half video and it forced me to subscribe to the channel
One small thing I'd add is color contrast! So you can induce the recruiter to read what matter most first.
Think about that 7 seconds average, if they don't find what they need very quickly, they'll just move on to the next file.
You are a legend!
Great tips!
