How to Install Corner Bead (From Hopper ) Its easier than nails

- Today the Doctor walks through the process of putting on Corner Bead through a hopper, aligning factory edges, rolling on and wiping out.
Some important steps include making sure the corner bead is cut and aligned, and that when you roll everything out your metal corner bead edges butt up against one another. Then running the hopper and wiping out should be a breeze!

My boss would say...Don't worry about the mud on the floor. We got a tool for that... It's called the new guy. Lol. I swear the old timers I worked with would throw mud on the floor intentionally. Ahhh Good Times! Thanks for the videos.. They help me become a better finisher.
Sir correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe I heard a joke in this video 🙂
Used to throw some tacks into bead paper flange to hold in place while mud sets up ((especially on long/ runs, checking for level (laser, spirit level, string line etc.) plumb (laser, 6'spirit level, plumb bob)for vertical bead and finally second coat fill space (14" drywall finishing trowel) ,this also helps in judging "trueness" of the drywall board/ framed corners)).
i don’t have a hopper so I used a piping bag i found in the kitchen drawer never would have thought of mudding the bead first if i hadn’t watched this video thanks.
I'm a mudman myself, and I got to say you know your stuff, man.
make a video how you finish the certainted no coat ...
Much stronger corner. When it first came out we used a brush and brushed the mud into the sticks of bead then pressed them on. Better than buttering the wall first.
Bucket scooper is great ..just picked one up at home depot the other day
Hi Doc! I've ran steel beads for the past 15 years, and converted to paper on the job I'm on. There's a lot of movement at this house, as it is literally built on piers on the lake. I bought the roller, and a outside corner applicator that goes on my mud tube (like a mud runner on welfare).
I ran all my beads, let them dry, then coated everything the next day. The vast majority of the beads have bubbled where the fresh mud re-activated the mud under the bead. What a mess. The bubble sticks up farther than the edge of the bead. Probably going to try to cut the bubbles out and throw some mesh and 90 in. Should I be coating the beads the same day as I install? Would that stop this problem? Help me please!!! Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply. Using the same Sheetrock beads I see you using, but am not using the hopper you use, so that is possibly the problem. So, does it matter when I coat them? Do I wait for them to dry, or coat them right away?
Brad Callan sounds to me like you had a batch of defective bead or the mud sat too long before you stuck the bead and was already drying.
Doc, could you put a link or video together so we can know what tools your using. The angle roller you used in this video is great along with that hopper you use.
I would say a bit of bad luck some where, once you go paper beads , ya never go back!
I had the same thing when I switched to paper bead. The reason for the bubbles is that there is no mud behind the paper. Cut a couple out and you will see.
It takes a little longer but here is how I do it.
Compound tube with outside corner applicator. Then run an exterior corner trowel very lightly over the corner from one end to the other. This flattens out the mud and makes sure the back of the bead will be completely covered. Takes a little bit of time but cutting out air bubbles and fixing takes even longer
how come you didn't put a splice peice in between the two factory ends some old school drywall , plaster guy told me not to just but them ,cut a 2" peice with angles cut on all sides and put it under where splice is it work with metal bead so I do it with the paper faced to I put them on with 20 or 45.when I prefill then I can roll my bead over them works great no cracks yet , been using this hopper bead since 02 thanks for the videos do you have any kind of textured ceiling technology I do alot of old school swirls
Wish I can work with you as your apprentice
Thank you so much sharing your knowledge
Very good boss i learning a lot with your videos ,thank you for teaching with a lot experience 👏👏👏👏
I loved this video. I just purchased the straight flex bucket and it was 300 bucks, so I'm really hoping after seeing this one that there exists some features on the straight flex that make it with the double price lol. But the info was great. Do you use the inside corner roller as well? Do you use straight flex type interior corner tape at all or are you paper tape only on the insides?
No I strictly use paper for doing inside corners I call them angels
Have you tried Certainteeds No-Coat corners? I like your videos a lot. It is interesting to see differences in techniques from other locations.
Do you use all purpose or setting compound to set these beads, or either/or depending on the situation?
I use all purpose it has more glue
Will the hopper work with the paper faced metal Home Depot "10 ft. Platinum Tape-On Paper-Faced Standard Leg Corner Bead"?
Yes
I'm a taper but I tell you that really like u video
Hi Doc, i have Columbia wide corner roller. It will work good with standard corner bead or i need to buy standard roller?
so those are paper beads? excuse my ignorance, but I think I'd prefer the ones your using to the metal ones. now can I use paper beads on everything?
Aint seen a job that i aint been able to use it on. Just make sure the rock is hung rite. Some hangers hang all rock like its bullnose an the gap sucks leaves blisters in tape sometimes.
Can you use a Sheetrock hopper with strait-flex 300 big stick?
Yes
Love the channel! I've been hanging and taping for years and I always use metal corner beads. why do you prefer paper?
The Drywall Doctor Doesn't it take longer? Having to wait for it to dry before giving a coat?
@@alozano443 It can be ran the same day. Just give it an hour or so. Been doing it for 20 years.
Can you do finish coat with a 10 inch flat box or do you have to use a 12
You can but make sure you don't crown the seams
I like you. You always out smile on my face 😎😎😎
Yep and the mud that finally came in steel buckets had asbestos in it ! Cough cough !
I still think no coat beard is the best
I like the old coat corner bead but I'm having a hard time finding it except in big rolls
Красавчик 👍
Messy or not, that bead isn’t going anywhere
Drywall isnt that critical as say finish carp.....your beading is more than passable.....if it's a lil off no one except the finish carpenter will know....on baseboard they make radius corners for bullnose cornerbeads you spoke of earlier...no need for plastic inserts
