2K was on fire in 2009. NBA 2K10 was also brilliant. Good shooters didn't just have bigger numbers, their shooting forms felt easier to time the release on. Yao Ming was impossible to shoot over. Top-quality defenders were more difficult to shake off. Top-notch ball handlers were more difficult to stay with, and the dribble moves were fluid and intuitive. NHL 2K was the same way, but even better, because there was all of the depth that NBA had, plus the fun little details that made the game just that little bit better with every note.

I think the problem with most if not all big company sports games nowadays is the fact that they don't put enough time into the future games. Once they release a game, they update it all year and don't put enough effort into the next game with ultimate team/myteam because that's what makes them the most money. Then they release almost the exact same game just slightly different, then update it all year till it's time to throw together another weak game.
THey did they just let.us down...
It's a joke that a ten year old game is notably more realistic and has an overall better presentation than the current NHL game. EA really needs to get their shit together and stop worrying about adding outfits and bandanas. They should watch this video and start from here. 2K10 with up to date gameplay, animations, and better physics would absolutely shut EA NHL down.
I’d love to see 2K release another hockey game just to see what they can bring to the table but doubt it will ever happen.

Yeah this makes me a bit depressed. This makes it clear that the NHL EA dev are either flat out bad, or EA is making them focus on making money aka hut. Its actually unreal how fast the menus go, how smooth and realistic the gameplay is. I could go on. Really sucks that EA has sole control.
I personally don't believe the devs suck, I'm sure EA hires people who know what what they are doing.. but I'm sure EA pushes for the same shit to get rushed year after year

Xilo Atomik I stopped by EA products in general. I used to play the sims but they would come out with like 8 expansion packs within a year. So to play the full experience you'd have to spend 200+ bucks. Ea is a disgusting company, and it seems like the 2k's are following that route sadly. I've noticed a correlation between myteam, pack openings, and the pure laziness to make games better.
Devin Shillington I was around 14 when EA bought the NFL license. It was a dark day. Smart move by EA, but the NFL should never have allowed it. The fact that EA adds features just to get rid of them is highly annoying. It's not like they have a limited budget for all the tens of millions of dollars they get just from pack buying and in game purchases
As a Finnish hockey fan, I find it very pleasing to notice that Teemu Selänne actually has the correct helmet (the Jofa 366 instead of the classic Jofa VM) in NHL 2K series
It's nice to see people recognizing the greatness behind 2K games, sure the graphics are iffy. But it's far superior to the slip'n slide in-game experience we have in modern EA NHL games, how every player has to look, skate and stick-handle like McDavid 2.0
To me, the PS3 games did it the best in terms of graphics and feel. but if you want a genuine hockey game that captures the atmosphere, the stats, and in-game experience, 2k games hit it out of the park.

So they don't need to actually worry about making a good game, when we don't have another alternative. If they had 2k. They would be looking for ways to make their game better then 2k's.

I play NHL and FIFA and its become obvious over the last decade that someone really needs to step up to EA for the sports games.
Ive been playing every 2k games since 2k5 . And im so happy to see someone else giving them credits for their attention to details. If 2k had the puck control of the EA series , the game would obliterate every nhl from EAsports

They did it in 05 all the ESPN games where the cats meow ! Espn nfl 2k5 is still the best football game in my opinion especially with the 22 roster updates . 2010 was a repeat year EA can only get one game right every 10 years maybe lol 😄

11:16 You CAN check what happens after the game. You can check full scoring, penalties and box scores. It shows you everything. Team stats, individual player stats, etc. Everything.

2K is very intricate when it comes to their games. It's one reason why I love them and their other studio Hangar. It's very unfortunate that the only sports game they do that has taken off is NBA2K. Maybe now we'll see FIFA2K with FIFA not renewing their licence with EA.
my god... just watched this vid & whats crazy is that my daughter in law got this game for me & I still got it. Started a season but never finished it but once I saw the clip with the cup I definitely got to get back to it. Appreciate it, good work.
NHL 2k8 is the best sports game ever made. I played that game so much. You could even do a prospect game before the draft in order to test the rookies. The gameplay and controls were amazing.

This reminds me of some stuff from nhl 04 I loved. The actual animation at the end of the skaters coming out for the 3 stars. And does anyone remember how cool the Stanley cup celebration was when they recapped all the highlights the players had. NHL 19 doesn’t really feels like a bare game. I mean no goal songs, winter classic, the celebrations in the playoffs are repetitive. I mean even the franchise mode where you had your own gm office! So many cool options back in the day

What I want to see in NHL 20. All time best player rosters for each team and decade. Players to fluctuate in overall. Expansions to just happen out of nowhere. An adjustment to USA hockey becoming more competitive and for the Rest of the World in franchise mode to slowly increase.
I think NHL 14 was the best. NHL 15-19 have been terrible
NHL 15 on old gen is golden, its basically NHL 14 with nee rosters and possibly some tweaks. But yeah to be fair NHL 19 is the best out of new gen NHL games, so at least they've got something right. And in terms of playability it is by far the best of all NHL games ever. Lacks features and immersion tho, which just happens to be the two of the most important things in a videogame

how is nhl 19 worse than nhl 14? Other than gm connected which I don't care for at all. Better skating, graphics, game modes, physics, and much more.
@@CKr14 the skating does not actually look better, play 19 then 14 straight after, you will realise that the animations are smoother in 14, you get more frames, the fact that you can toe drag before shooting make the shots look like they have some actual force behind them, when the puck carrier leaves your zone there is a weaving animation that makes the skating look ten times better and there is more time on the puck and less pressure so you can set up plays just like this guy said for 2k10. 19's skating should look nicer in some respects but the animations need refining, they look wishy washy and the skating style is not universal enough, its mcdcvid and a few others it looks right on. Maybe if a poke check didn't constitute to players general area then I would be able to play it but its op and it always will be because the fairness of multiplayer takes precedence over creating an enjoyable immersive single player experience, Plus the cp ai are broken, they weren't told about this years poke check penalty changes, its a broken game a beta build at best. 14 is a refined experience.

NHL 2k10 on Wii was amazing. The customizable draft class was worth buying it all by itself.
I feel like NHL EA are focusing on making the game beautiful way too much they should focus more on the pure gameplay like the 2K series
They don't even do that all the way. Half the players still don't look like who they supposed to be. Why don't we have Winter Classic stadiums? Why is the Enterprise Center (My home team so play a lot) Two years outdated.

This was the first hockey game I had as a kid and I can't forget it. Everything about it was so memorable to me. I am not even that big of a hockey person just everything about the game was awesome to me. I have so many memories in the game including checking people over the boards, losing in game 7 in the finals on hall of fame difficult and especially the soundtrack. I still have a few of the songs memorized to this day and when I hear them I think... Huh that was in nhl 2k10. So then after I played this game for a few months on Christmas I got the EA game which was supposedly better but I didn't like the controls or the franchise mode nearly as much. The controls just seemed clunky to me and the animations didn't seem as fluid or satisfying to me as 2ks were (especially the checks). So I went back to 2k10 and never looked back. I really wish they made more. Then EA and 2k couldn't be as money hungry in their respective markets if they had competition.
Also don't even get me started about the Zamboni
When i was a kid I only had a wii and never had a 360. as a hockey fan I bought 2k11, it still holds up animation wise today and is probably my favorite NHL ever. Such a shame EA took over 2k
NHL 2k5 was the absolute best!! I remember being the best i my house, so my brothers would always ask for my help in beating the lightning, who were the best in the game. I played i again recently, and I first realized how much detail was put into menu designs back in the day. Even though the graphics aren't realistic, they look decent in a semi-cartoony way, and the gameplay feels much smoother than the recent games, especially with stickhandling.
I loved nhl 2k games specially cause of the hip checks and presentations.. wish they brung the hip check back in nhl 20

I really would love to see 2K make a return to the NHL.
NHL have their games on TNT and NBA 2K uses the Inside the NBA cast so they could have easy access to use some of the NHL on TNT cast and crew. Not only that, but I think the gameplay would definitely be smoother than EA's offering and also so would presentation.
My only concern would be with the microtransactions.

I used to play 2k10 soooo much on the ps2 back in the day. That was so fun. I'm so glad I picked it up for the 360 though. I didn't know of all these features. I also, have all the old games for 360.
i can not believe how well these games hold up to this day. playing nhl 2k8, 2k9 and 2k10 on rpcs3. SO MUCH BETTER than ea's garbage by almost all possible aspects. controls are pretty wild but they give so much room for different styles of play. only things i wish were better in the 2k games are some of the menus, but then again the games are 17 to 15 years old.

Owned this game on Wii before I ever owned a “real” console and any EA NHL game. Spent so much time customizing and juicing all the game modes and features. I had no idea how good I had it. Honestly makes me want to ask around for a Wii just so I can play this and MLB Power Pros like I did years ago when my Wii still read discs. I miss this game and will hold onto it in the case that I ever find myself playing a Wii again.

The reason NHL 2k fell off was because they never made many graphical or animation improvements. While some animations were better than its EA counterpart, the overall skating and checking animations looked like it did in NHL 05. If we’re considering the small details and nothing else, NHL 2k was far better than EA.
I think the fact that when you play franchise mode and the NHL analysts don't have actual names, it speaks volumes about what game EA is willing to say "completed"

It's sad that an almost decade old game has better features and gameplay than our current NHL game.
They have had so many good features in past games then remove them for the next year and call it improved. Graphics may have improved but the immersion has not.
That is a biggest freaking issues I have with NHL, features and game modes that used to be in the game, and no longer are, also lack of competition is the biggest problem I have as well.
if you win multiple stanley cups and go to the team stat screen it adds the cups you win not just the cups won in real life god this game is so great and on pc this game runs beautifully

As an owner of the final game, 2k11, It was an amazing hockey game even with Wii controls.
There’s so many cool little details I love it
I loved the NHL 2k series, I had nhl2k5 on the original xbox, and 2k7 and 2k9 on the 360. I put a lot of time into getting all the settings and sliders just right so the game felt as realistic as possible. Whenever I tried to get my friends to play they would all say "fuck 2k EA is better" so sad :(
I remember playing this at one point and I think with Daniel Alfredsson, I had a goal where he fell, rolled and somehow got his stick on it and put it into the net.
I did have an odd thing happen to where I had a goalie block a shot, it gets sent into the air to like the opposing blue line only for it to slide past the opposing goalie and in. it was such a fun game and I wish this era of 2K was able to take the NHL games into a much better place. Still wouldnt get it on PC but I think it would be mu h better.

I grew up playing NHL 2K, always liked it more, played the shit out of 2K5. My buddy brought NHL05 over and I couldn’t stand it, the 3D models of the players were terrible.
So crazy to see how much was in 2K10 that’s not in any EA game for the last 9 years... I haven’t bought an NHL game for 3 years now and even 2016 I bought on sale, last one I bought and actually played was 2013...

I could be wrong. But I believe it was possible to play your franchise/season mode online. So you can play those games against real people instead of just the CPU and it would track it in your season mode.
in terms of franchise, I know not everybody loves 2k because of microtransactions, but their franchise as well as tracking of stats is second to none. the most depth in any game for franchise, you can almost look at any stat you want to see including in depth stats and historical tracking. .
so what im learning is there is in fact a silent majority of gamers who also have a decade of rage from playing EA NHL series, questioning every time we play why it is so very souless

This game kind of highlights a lot of shortcomings of EA's NHL series. Mainly the presentation and animations. And GM mode. I love the animations, they are so good compared to ea NHL games, even the new ones. EA has kind of lifeless animations, these 2k guys in game look like they are players trying to win a hockey game. All the desperation moves and such. It's cool.

We could have all this amazing detail and awesome extra features, but EA seems to think we would enjoy microtransactions more, so they give us an ass load of those instead
2k10 was pretty much being built from scratch too... 2k7 and 2k8 also have very unique features that EA can't match today... Scrimmages, training, amazing shooting engine, classic teams, etc. Pretty cool playing as the 67 Leafs and the players all wearing no helmets and wooden sticks.
It's too bad 2k gave up, a lot of what 2k basketball has is where hockey was going too.
Most of 2k flaws actually were things EA didn't struggle with at the time. For example, the puck pickup animations suck in 2k... However, the ironic part is that they also ended up sucking by like NHL 13... EA in many ways made their game worse and less responsive over the years ... That's the problem with EA. They never had a direction, they just rushed games out every year and realized a new gimmick. 2k used to flesh out their products.
Also a shame on the games media. Real hockey fans, knew everything you mentioned. Yet, the reviewers are usually incredibly ignorant when it comes to sports games.
The goalies have more realistic save animations than nhl19 does wtf

The goalie animations are sick. When the player lost balance, he automatically committed to the ball side of the goal because it's so much harder to shoot across the body.
