I have a 1967 330. My parents gave it to me when I graduated from the 8th grade around 1969. I had it fully restored a few years ago and I am still gigging with it. It has a great sound and I'm so glad that I never sold or traded it.

That’s super cool! Glad your parents were able to get such an amazing and not cheap instrument for a young player i wish i could get a new Gibson! Been playing over a decade and still haven’t gotten my hands on a Gibson but one day!!

I have a 1962 ES-330T and really like it for Jazz. I also have new Casino Worn and it is an amazing guitar for $500 with quality electronics and playability - a great option for a jazz guitarist on a budget or who is looking for something less precious.

i love the 330 design!!! its just about the missing sustainblock vs 335. great acoustic guitar, played unamped! myself got one from ARIA, probaly not from japan;o). nice guitar! very low action. of course feedback issues thru an amp! plays fluid. changed bridge PU4 - 59PAFpro; neck PU4 - SeyDunc SH1. got lots of Chuck Berry from the bridge and maximum full-jazz-tone from the neck, using the pots. best

I like P90s, clearer and crisper than hummers in the neck and therefore also middle position, so is it a 335 killer, I'd have to say yes. Ideally you'd have a 330L the long neck version but there aren't many of them around. Mine's a '14 Memphis '59 reissue. Thanks for the video Jamie

@@jamieholroydguitar Cheers Jamie, darn, so the '63 isn't yours? I hunted over the last year for mine, got it in July this year from a bloke in New Jersey off of Reverb. Saw a few with bigsbys but I didn't want that, and they were at higher prices, these guitars are going up in price/value each month now given the scarcity. Snaffle one if you can. And man what a good player you are, so fluent and melodic, takes lots of practice I know, however you've got that extra gift that many of us don't have and that's really special, all the best, Steve.

I turned down an offer on a custom shop VOS ES330 for the equivalent of 1900$ four years ago and I regret it to this very day. Beautiful instrument, and Grant Green is among the slickest players ever.

Wow that would have been a steal, but the guitar economy was very different four years ago.

Interesting video. I really enjoyed the playing of Emily Remler. I always assumed that her guitar was a 335. I imagine there is a marked difference in the tone between a Gibson archtop (or any archtop for that matter) with a block or without. I have 2 Ibanez guitars, an AS 200 with a block and an Artcore model without the block. The only way I could describe the difference is the Artcore without the block has a more delicate jazzy tone.

    • @jamieholroydguitar
      @jamieholroydguitar  2 роки тому +1

Thanks. Yea I agree! 335s are great but don’t always get the throaty jazz sound.

I own a 66 335 and a 68 330 (long neck). Fretboard wise they are identical and the long neck is a huge + compared to a short neck Casino I played prior. The weight is an advantage compared to the 335 which like most mid 60s Gibsons is a bit on the heavy side. Feedback is a problem, even at lower volumes. Compared to the 335 and a more recent Casino, the 330 sounds surprisingly dark. To me the 330 is the perfect practice guitar due to weight and acoustic volume level.

I have a Gibson ES 195 which sounds very close to the ES 175. I love the 195 its very easy to play and thiner.than the ES175 but not as thin as the ES 335. It kind of sits in the middle

The 330 sounds ace! Surprised at how well it took the overdrive pedal!
I have heard good things about Eastman guitars and quite like the ethos of the company but I’ve never played one.
Interesting to know the history behind the 330 and which players used them 👍

I recently bought a 2014 Gibson Memphis Historic 1959 ES 330. It is in excellent condition. I love it. It replaced my 2006 Benedetto Bravo. I sold the Benedetto because I became to dislike its medium to high action. The ES 330 has the best attributes. Great action, hollow body and amazing tone from the P 90s.

Some extra information: Tthe D stands for for double or dual pickups, not for double cutaway.

I've had the Eastman T64/V-RD for a few weeks. I'm still in the honeymoon phase, but I love it. I've thought about getting a 330 for quite a few years now, and after the Get Back series, I was also lusting after a Casino. (What can I say? I'm a huge Beatles fan and I'm shallow.) At the same time I like to have Bigsbys on my guitars these days, and as far as I can tell Gibson is no longer putting Bigsbys on any of its guitars (maybe because Fender now owns Bigsby?). So this particular Eastman fits the bill for me completely. It can do jazz, blues, Beatle-y stuff, and even country/Americana. I'm really happy with it.

Great video! I have a Gibson 335 and an Epiphone Casino, the latter being pretty close to a 330: the Epi's pick ups aren't as versatile as Gibson's. I I can coax some nice jazz tones out of the Casino but I find them easier to dial in with the 335.

Jamie, you're probably aware of this, but Emily Remler's 330 originally belonged to her brother. Also, it was badly damaged in a house fire and the people who own it now had to raise money in order to have it restored, which it now is. In my opinion, Gibson should have restored it gratis.

I've recently bought an Eastman T64 (from the very helpful Project Music in Exeter). I like its 1 3/4 inch nut and ebony fretboard as it echoes the dimensions of my Martin 0018v. It's really comfortable and s joy to play.
I'm currently looking for a decent practice amp, any recommendations? I'm thinking of a Roland JC22.
