- Solo camping is something I do on a regular bases. This trip was on the banks of the Howqua River in the shadows of Fry's Hut. My Kelpie Scout was there chasing her ball, the campfire was lit and a great healthy dinner was cooked.
Horses crossed the river in the late afternoon adding to the atmosphere the might Victorian High Country.
Hi I got kelpie too she stays on dog bed right in front of swag always stays close there great dogs thanks for sharing your camp 👍
Thanks for taking the time to comment. It is a top campground even for a base camp. It sounds like you have a great pup too!
Nice little over nighter Rich. Such great dogs Kelpies, looks like your arm gets a good workout with that ball lol. Mine loves to be in the swag with me, dont think id ever be forgiven if i didnt let her in.
Thanks Damo, don't worry she was eyeing off the swag around 8pm 🤣 she had a run around with another Kelpie in the morning from one of the nearby camps too.
Love how simple you keep it Rich!
Thanks mate, unfortunately my firepit has pretty much burnt out. I'm in the market for a new one.
Love the simplicity of this mate. So good.
Cheers thanks! It works well for us.
Great vid Rich. I also have a kelpie that has been crate trained since a puppy. I just swaped over to the doggy den (dog swag) as it is lighter and takes up less space and is snake proof. You must live near me as I often see the FJ around home. Keep up the great vids mate.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to commnet. I might have a closer look into the doggy den thanks for the tip.
Great little spot down by Frys Hut
It sure is mate, plenty of history.
Looks good. I'd dine with you!😬 Magic spot. FJ so strong!
It's a top spot!
I'll be up at frys this weekend coming mate! Keen as to get away for the weekend 👌
Perfect mate, there is a walk along the river heading back towards Sheepyard Flat. There is some history there. Also be sure to check out tunnel bend too
Love the kelpie, better sub!
I just let my border collie sleep in the car, saves bringing a crate
Thanks for the sub! Scouts best friend is a Birder Collie. She is my brothers collie. They are so funny together! While ii was camped here one of the other campers had a Kelpie. They had a good run after the ball in the morning.
Very entertaining buddy
Glad you enjoyed it mate!
Been too long since I’ve been there. Lots of great memories from that spot. Have camped at Fry’s in the exact spot. Toilet trained one of my kids on the pit toilets there!
Thats cool, tne best way to toilet train is when out camping! Thanks for watching.
@@OffroadTouringLife there was a heap of oranges in the pit loo. She just about fell in looking at them.
Gee that's odd! I wonder why tney were in there?
I was there 2 weeks before you. Camped near the Upper Jamieson Hut.
That's awesome mate, upper jamieson hut is definitely one that doesn't get mentioned a lot.. Thanks for watching
Nice one Rich! Great area. Cheers Steve
It sure is mate, plenty of history.
Nice 👍 the midweek escape artist uses similar bivvy tent and awning but U could get sides 4 Ur awning and sleep init in a camping cot like Geordie Jimmy did
Gday mate thanks for watching, I do have a fullnset of wall for the awning, but I have never used tnem all. I bought tne awning from a good mate second ha d and he threw them in. I have used an end wall, though, when the rain was terrible.
@@OffroadTouringLife U should do it 1 time less kit to carry minimal camping U gotta watch fish 13 I think he's called that guy's a nut he's cool 😎 dunno how he gets all his kkit
No worries I'll check him out!
Nice little campout with scout mate. Frys hut is a good spot 👍
Thanks mate, Scout doesn't sit down...much like me 🤣
Love it there Rich👌
How good is it!
Awesome vid Rich, thank you. My small lapdog (45kg Rottie) will bunk in the swag with me but I'm going to look at getting a crate cover like you have for Scout. I didn't see any vans in the background there, do you think the track would allow a mid-sized van (Expanda Outback, single axle) to get in easy enough?
Gday Luke, you could get a van into there at the time of this trip. The track was in great condition. The campground itself does close seasonally in winter. But sheepyard flat and other spots along the river are open. The main "Howqua Teack" can become impassable for trailers in winter, so it is best check conditions prior to towing in there.
The covet works well. The crate was slid under my camp table, too.
Thanks for watching
@@OffroadTouringLife awesome! thanks for getting back to me so quickly :)
No problem at all mate, enjoy your time up there.
My jack Russell sleeps at my feet in the sleeping bag, I wouldn’t dream of making her sleep outside on a -3 night. But it’s a lot harder with a bigger dog.
It's definitely harder with a bigger dog. With the cover over her crate, you'd be surprised how warm it is in there. She generates a lot of body heat. If I'm in RTT on my camper, she is sometimes up there with me.
Thanks for watching.
Did you consider rice or noodles to serve underneath the stir-fry?
Noodles are definitely on the list for next time.
