The most natural talent and easy charisma I've never seen to this day. I know that, off-screen, he drove Frank nuts because he wasn't naturally all that social and really just wanted to stay at home and watch westerns on TV but, on-screen, he was this enormously warm and generous and naughty individual who made everyone feel like they were invited to the best party ever! Bless you, Dino! Wish you were still here to make our lives more relaxed.
Dean as just so laid back, cool and relaxed. He was also a very experienced live entertainer and add libbing or adding jokes was second nature and he knew how to be funny.
@@bholaoates1542 indeed. Especially since this was filmed a mere 2 decades after Ww2 ended. Shockingly, nbc was founded by a Jewish man and he let Dean Martin get away with it, for some reason.
@@Muzical-Man Yep -- today's social justice warriors are so much smarter than people were back then. Good thing we have them around nowadays to set us straight.😉😉
I'll be playing his music all day Christmas, since that is the day that he passed away on. "It's alright, sweetheart. It'll just come out of your check." LOL!!!!!
Wonderful and funny clip that I enjoy each of the over fifty times I have seen this including the original airing. There is no Dean appearance that hasn't been more than spectacular. He is so enjoyable to watch since we never know what he will improvise. Thank you for posting.
@brazosjaime Hi...no, this group of girls was NOT the Golddiggers....that was a separate group that came later in the series and was put together by the director, Greg Garrison. This group of girls (of which I was one :-) was made up of two girls from the 8-voice singing group backing Dean off-camera every week and several of the dancers who could carry a tune. We were affectionately known as "Dean's Girls."
What a great talent... Imagine all of the prima donnas he knew back then..(most all of them male)..that would have had a fit with someone making a mistake like that.. He had class... Remember the sgtory too of Sinatra being angryh at dean for not publicly supporting JFK back in the '60s..Do you think Dean gave a "you-know-what?" Smooth..that man was.!
Zoboomafoo24: No, it's not weird. My 20 year old daughter loves him, too. He was a very special man with such talent, presence, and no one could do "relaxed and easy" like Dino. He is missed. BTW, if you haven't already, catch him in Rio Bravo. He does a wonderful performance and the movie itself is a great Western, even - or especially - for those who don't like Westerns. (Like me!)
The reason Dean was so cool was because he really didn't care what happened onstage. Mess up, do it right, have Jerry Lewis run around like crazy. It was all water off a duck's back. He didn't take anything seriously. Marilyn Monroe is three hours late? He'd go outside and hit golf balls.
I just can't disagree with you more. He took it all very seriously. But he's a very nice guy with a great sense of humor he's comfortable with himself so he can enjoy when things go right and he can enjoy when things go wrong. And he doesn't condemn others when they make a mistake and he doesn't condemned himself when he makes a mistake
@HandwhistlerBen Despite all the youtube vids i so have the feeling of missing out on stuff.Would've loved to see the full shows.Such a great man and indeed, improvised.Saw somewhere he was watching football in his dressingroom and maybe sort off read the script, but always came up with stuff because he wanted his show to be spontanious.we lack that a bit nowadays i think.
@HandwhistlerBen yeh i know.my parents dont really know english tho so they really need subs.I am not from the US.saw that the DVD's are for sale there.hopefully i will get them from my gf for my birthday...hope she remembered and otherwise i might pick em up next time i am at that end of the world.am from the netherlands myself but a big dino fan.multitalented indeed.allround entertainer.i love sammy davis jr as well.also an allround entertainer.
"You know, I'm so unlucky I bet on Germany in both wars?" It doesn't get better than Dean. :) "If they ever cut a woman in half, I'll get the part that eats!"
Dick Stabile was leading the band and wouldn't let the girl start from an odd spot because it was too hard to cue everyone. Dino was nice enough to call all the girls back to repeat so she didn't feel bad.
Dean loves this shit because he never rehearsed so he loved when somebody boo booed it didn't bother him he was still Kool as ice. LMAO 🤣🤣 Dino. PS she probably paid for it later at his place or hers. Ring-a-Ding Ding!!!!!
great point! Jerry tried waaay too hard. Dean was just super smooth. I've read many books about Dean and everyone who worked with him was so amazed at how quick his wit was.

"We all make mistakes! Remember Hitler?" Holy shit I laughed so hard at that. Dean is the best.
I spit out my coffee when I heard that! ROFL!
Best part about Dean show it appeal to both women and man.
Today a bunch of snowflakes would try to cancel him for that. I can hear them now -- "Oh, he made Hitler seem like a trivial mistake! He offended me!"

Man, this was an awesome show. The stuff today falls way short.
I'll be playing his music all day Christmas, since that is the day that he passed away on.

Great clip - shows how brilliant and funny Dean was at improv

Completely random and he just rolls with it and turned it into a classic clip.
Dino is & was the coolest!
He was so laid back he was horizontal !!!!
What a charmer. I bet chicks would still dig him big time nowadays :D
I need a time machine...
@venturacenter Thanks for the correction. Then all of "Dean's Girls" were cute.
@vantalge Are your kidding? That's hilarious !!!
I wonder if they left the flub in when they played back the show.

I just love the political incorrectness of the era.
Oh by the way......Dean Martin is......
Fooblestheclown1 Don't ruin my Thanksgiving Foobles. Now, the turkey will not seem as tasty. Have a good one buddy.
Just being politically incorrect just like the people of this era. Everybody, loves somebody....sometimes.
he was the brain behind all the Dean and Jerry things as well.He gave all the assists so that Jerry could score. Not to disrespect Jerry Lewis
Too much...:)
When men were real men
Love is lovelier the second time around? I can usually make it just the once.
DINO RULED!
Dean loves this shit because he never rehearsed so he loved when somebody boo booed it didn't bother him he was still Kool as ice. LMAO 🤣🤣 Dino. PS she probably paid for it later at his place or hers. Ring-a-Ding Ding!!!!!
This makes it easy to see why Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis didn't get along that well.
the girl who made the mistake reminds me of Jane Krakowski
Im totally smitten with him.. i think i would totally love him in real life. Hes such a goof. ANd a ladys man. Wow. Im 21.. is that totally weird? :)
On the Dean Martin variety show this group of girls were called the Golddiggers.

That's funny what a cool guy......love it we all make mistakes remember hitler LOL
he was a funny guy where as jerry lewis wasnt
great point! Jerry tried waaay too hard. Dean was just super smooth. I've read many books about Dean and everyone who worked with him was so amazed at how quick his wit was.
