Across the road on Bold Street is a Turkish grill called Elif. It’s full all day and people queue up in the rain in the street it’s that good. Highly recommended.

I was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford in 1985. I meet a beautiful girl from Liverpool. We laughed at each others accent, her with her scous and me from the midwest in the States. Seeing all the lovely ladies stopping by brought back memories.

So Scouse in Liverpool and Lapskaus in Norway are the 'same' dish with shared origins from sailing ships between the ports (and so in other North European countries linked by maritime trade). The Scouse get their name from the dish :)

Believe it or not vegan scouse is actually fairly traditional. Known as blind scouse. Not that it was intended as vegan but as an economy dish. Different areas use different meat as well. My nan and our family always use lamb.

Was going to mention blind scouse.. Other half says that they'd have a big pot of it that started on monday, lasted till friday, it'd start with the meat, but got topped up with veggies. Or if you'd not got paid that well, it never had any meat to start with. She cooks it for me, but hates it herself! she'd use neck of lamb or shin beef.

I was down in Liverpool for a week. I am from Dundee. I love the city and the people i met. I had the scouse in the Liverpool cathedral cafe. It tasted great. It looked darker and richer than Maggie mays. I will give Maggie mays a try the next time i visit.

Being Canadian I always laugh at an English breakfast and not why you would think. Around here blood sausage is a meal not a side and have to say can tomato just doesnt seem right with breakfast. Now that said if your cooking a brunch at home Eggs, sausage & bacon, homefries, beans, sliced hard cheese & fresh tomatoe with a stack of toast ....thou if you added the mushrooms I wouldnt complain.
