    I ordered my CST HB on 10-4-19 and receive it (PA, USA) within 3 weeks. It was well packed and arrived undamaged. I was floored by it beauty and construction. The were some very minor cosmetic issues which I corrected quite easily plus a minor set-up. The neck markers are dots instead of the Morning Glory type. I bought it for the purpose of modifying it. After noodling around with it for a couple of weeks I started the mod. I Swapped out all the pots with CTS including the splitter for a conventional blend and re-wired as required. Then finished the job with DiMarzio PAF Pros and a set o D'Addario 8|38 strings to brighten the tone. If you are having doubts, do not concern yourself. Thomann is a very large company and they offer an excellent return policy should there be any issues.

    michigan here.. it's late 2023. I have both Glarry and Harley Bentons.. you're spot on with giving them a little work to make them acceptable for the price they cost.

    Cool :) I've ordered myself one too, not the hollow one.
    I've ebonized the neck right away, and the pickups i'm not sure of yet.
    Also the nut I replaced and the tone and volume knobs I replaced with some nice schallers, and put locking tuners in it.
    I used to think it was a little bit a shame to do it right away, but i'm over that barrier, i'm having the machine for a week now, and i'm very very content with it, like I made it.

    Hello Mike! Many thanks for the great review and interesting channel of yours. I used to own this one in Tobacco Sunburst with tree of life inlays. I gave it for my niece as she was starting out her guitar career. I was very happy with guitar but it had one weak part - wrap around bridge. I believe it was made from too light material that it caused g-string to buzz a bit. Probably an easy fix with better quality part. Also the inlay finish was terrible but issues with finish I expected for the price. Checking out this video of yours makes me think of getting another one. Just ordered SC450plus and ST62cc so it gotta wait though. Just wanted to share my experiences of this kind of instrument and wishing you and other subscribers a pleasant weekend!

    I think that DLX refers to deluxe, I have heard them called deluxe on the HB videos when they are listed as DLX, why they cant just spell the word is beyond me.
    My CST-24 Deluxe came with Wilkinson pickups but I bought mine when they first came out before they changed over to using Roswell pickups, they have a nice crisp sound to them.
    Before I got this guitar I had not used this type of bridge before and had read that they were hard to intonate, but mine intonated just fine and it was only a very slight adjustment.
    I have quite a few Harley Benton guitars, some I have upgraded just for my own pleasure not because they needed it.
    I love them all, great value for money and well built!
    If I don't like the pickups I fiddle with my EQ pedal before changing them and 90% of the time I find a good tone that I am happy with.

    I have lots of Harley Benton's from a Strat to LP, SG PRS Solid and the Tree of Life Hollow body. Love them all and they replaced one PRS worth $2000.00. 😄

    Great 👍. Have one not semi hollow in the same color. That was my first guitar in my collection of HB,s. I’m a novice and a old beginner but I really like to play it. I have 6 HB,s, one Ibanez and one bass guitar and several amps. Use it only at home, and I love it. Have a nice one you to. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪

      Fantastic! You are never too old to begin. I wish you the best on your guitar journey.
      I love my HB's. They are an excellent value, and not just for beginners. I just wish Thomann would set up a distributor in the U.S. so they would be easier to get here.
      Thanks for checking out the video. Take care and be good.

    Came from Phil's channel. Sub'd here in England The guitar looks good not a guitar to recommend to a beginner they would not be able to set it up and repace switches etc but good at this price point looking forward to more of your reviews Thanks Mike

      I know folks who've been playing for 40 years an can't do any of that stuff. Frankly, most every new guitar needs a setup to some degree. I did the setup on the CST-24 yesterday. It didn't need all that much, just a very slight neck adjustment and lowered the bridge. I adjusted the pickup height as well. Plays like a dream, although, I still can't get overly excited about the pups, but don't hate them enough to be swapping them out any time soon.

Roasted maple flamed SS fret neck and natural flamed top Tele type HH. I've never owned such a spec ...or HB. I hope when it arrives its ok. Hahah. I think it should work for my own type of music. Hey Mike. I enjoyed the walk thru of your HB. You are correct when saying. When we were young, (I'm 63.) A good Less expensive guitar was rare compared to these day for sure. I remember the department store guitars. Sears Silver tone. Decca, Kingston, Kay, Tiesco etc... Some were unplayable. A new player today does have a nice affordable way to try a guitar. and not be completely discouraged by the play ability. On your later comment. For a beginner. The big thing I would say. Is stay away from a Floyd Style Bridge. Thanks Buddy...

  • @okothobbo
    @okothobbo 3 роки тому

    Hey Mike, on mine, the last four frets (20-24) are very difficult to reach and actually unreachable on the high E and A strings. I have only average hands. Is this a problem you encountered with yours?

    • @grumpymikeguitar
      @grumpymikeguitar  3 роки тому

      Not any more so than my S2 custom 24. That said, I don't really spend that much time up in that region of the fretboard.

      @okothobbo 3 роки тому

      @@grumpymikeguitar Very kind of you to get back. I do mainly African (Congolese) lead, and one is often in that register of the fretboard. Man, keep making music and stay safe!

    Great review. Just wondering though if you have to buy new pickups, are they still worth the value.

    • @grumpymikeguitar
      @grumpymikeguitar  4 роки тому

      No, the pickups are ok, but like I said, they aren't great. Personally, I would have a problem gigging with this guitar as is (after a setup of course). That said, it would certainly be better with better pups.
      Thanks for watching.

    • @grumpymikeguitar
      @grumpymikeguitar  4 роки тому

      I've bought guitars that cost much more that I ended up replacing the pups. The way I see it, HB's are a fantastic modding platform. Even if you spend a few 2 or even 3 hundy, you still end up with something that feels and plays like a more expensive guitar. The only downside is resale value which is why you always hang on to the original parts.

    • @grumpymikeguitar
      @grumpymikeguitar  10 місяців тому

      Since I'm not really a metal player, I'm probably not the best person to answer this. That said, it is semi hollow and could potentially have feedback issues at hight gain, although, I've not encountered that issue myself.

    Why don't you just say out loud which pup you would recommend? It would be very helpful if you would be direct, open and honest. You hem and haw a lot. It makes one wonder why.

    • @grumpymikeguitar
      @grumpymikeguitar  7 місяців тому +1

      For this guitar, it really doesn't matter. The Roswell pickups a just fine. If you wanted to make any significant improvement, you'd spend more on the pickups than the guitar cost originally.
      That said, if I were going to do it, I'd probably go with prs pickups (considering it's a prs knockoff). Maybe something like a set of 59/09s. I tend to like paf style pups. Hope that helps. ✌️

    hey man get excited this is boring....you get what you pay for and these guitars are worth every penny

    • @grumpymikeguitar
      @grumpymikeguitar  4 роки тому +4

      I agree. They certainly are worth every penny. They are a fantastic value. However, after playing the H.B.s almost exclusively for the last month or so, when I pulled out my PRS S2 and my Gibson LP, the shortcomings of the H.B.s become evident. They are still great guitars and I can recommend them with confidence. With these guitars, I honestly feel like you are actually getting a bit more than you pay for.
      Oh, an I'll work on the enthusiasm thing.
      Thanks for watching.
