    I've been listening to this for three years now. I didn't listen all the way through in one go, I repeated episodes usually for about a week so I could retain the information. Now, it comes to an end. This is truly, the most satisfying podcast I've ever listened to. Well done, Mike.

    I listened to this podcast somewhat on and off for about a year, and did my best to follow along with whatever supplemental readings I could find through the internet. Hearing that final goodbye and closing of this entire saga honestly hit me right in the feels. I had been interested in the history of Rome in the past, but this podcast more than any other source has ignited my passion for this incredible history. So many extraordinary people played so many parts throughout this entire story that i can't truly fathom the scope of it all. Through time and space, the history of Rome directly impacts my life in 2020, and Mike Duncan's podcast has changed my life forever. Thank you for uploading this series to UA-cam so that I could listen to it.
    Now, at the end, I gotta say that, while I don't know what I would say my favorite era is, I can at least say that Gaius Julius Caeser is my favorite character in this entire story. Many times, I wondered to myself how circumstances may have played out differently had he been around to affect things. And not just him; thanks to the education I received through this series, I was able to really imagine a ton of possibilities had X person been around for Y moment, etc. I will spend the rest of my life diving in to this ancient world, and again- though he'll never read this- it's all thanks to Mike Duncan.
    Also, I'm never gonna forget that guitar music lmaooo

      You and me have had a similar adventure, including the discovery of how just utterly fascinating the story of Caesar actually is. This podcast has become the single most important piece of media to me personally, and it’s nice to see that it hit someone just as hard. This series may have even helped me charter out a career path for myself if things work out. I hope that, even after more than a year, you still find yourself sometimes thinking of Rome and this podcast like I have

Ironically, I watched Unbiased history of Rome before this series and it's amazing to see a lot the jokes in that series were just roman history played straight when mentioned in this series. During COVID, moved my family to safety. I looked at what people had to endure in the past and found strength. I laughed with you. Cried with you and the historic figures. Felt their pain. Witnessed their hopes and dreams. Thank you. Best wishes to you and your family. Thank you for this peace of history! Best wishes to you Mike. To my fellow listeners… It has been quite a journey hasn’t it? I wish you all good fortune and may the Gods smile upon us all. I think now, we will all forever be linked to “The History of Rome”.🏆

    First off, thank you. I came to the show very late. Over the course on 8 months I listened to your entire History of Rome pod cast. I've appreciated every episode and all your hard work and time. In short this is social media at its best. Without going to college I was able to learn more about an era of history from a part of the world I'm interested in. As I did I feel I've learned far more then I would have if left to my own devices.
    At this podcast conclusion I have find my self reflecting on the experience and feel a sense of lose now that it's over. It seems appropriate after all, spending 8 months fallowing the rise and fall of a great civilization. And of course your presentation and real life mixed in.
    I hope you, Mrs. History of Rome and your royal court are doing well. Thank you again for the journey.

You covered the 300's leading up to Diocletian and the mid 400's better than almost anyone, as you stated it's a very pivotal period of massive social and political transitions and economic decline that gets completely ignored. I would love to see your take on the history of the East from the Division to the fall of Constantinople at some point, but I understand the work that goes into this.

    The morning of Sunday, 23 April 2023 was when I began this series. I probably discovered it a few months ago upon recommendation from the algorithm, but I decided that I had to listen to it at some point this spring. It is now the night of Wednesday, 17 May 2023, Day 25 of binging these thirty-six parts (thirty-seven if we include the Christmas special, which I chose to listen to listen to well in advance of where it was placed in this playlist). It was so fun, and I hope to return for a more detailed listen with the notes, as the Arabs say, “Inshallah.” Thank you, Timaeus, for uploading this. Because of you, I am now familiar with the man and living legend that is Mike Duncan.

    Wow, okay, listening to this kind of puts things into perspective and proves that podcasting isn't the wasteland that I had always assumed. Yeah, I know about assumptions. As one person noted below, it is like losing a friend that you don't see very often. Thank you for doing the podcast.
    While I've read quite a bit of Roman, Greek and Mediterrainean history I so identified with some of the snarky comments and laughed out load. Thank you again.

    I recommended this podcast on FB and I do in person. You have done an epic job. I really liked this. Listened to every episode twice now. Check out the unabridged version of The Count of Monte Cristo if you have not already. It is the best single book I have ever read. I recommend that book and the Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick-Obrian. As a history buff I believe you would enjoy them immensely. I have read them twice as well. Now I will go off to other pursuits but I will be back. My children will listen one day - after I have some!. Thank you for all your work and dedication once again. Much love.

    ...did Agrippenus really take sanctuary in the Church of St. Peter? I have the maturity of a child and this was the first part of the whole series where I lost it.
    Seriously, the big difference between the Germans not being integrated and everyone else being integrated was that everyone else was conquered and brought in on Roman terms. When Gallic culture was disgraced by defeat in battle and the homeland seized it was difficult to argue superiority. When a roving band of Goths was destroyed and settled, the group back home in the Ukraine was critically able to rebuild on their own terms.

    • @-timaeus-9781
      @-timaeus-9781  7 років тому +1

      It wasn't the first time someone sought refuge in a church. I'm not sure why you would get upset, lol. The modern basilica hadn't been built yet, so this would have been the original church.

    • @lordjimbo2
      @lordjimbo2 7 років тому +6

      Oh no! Not upset! I just thought it was fantastic that after a thousand years of noble history, the Empire would be reduced to a man whose name sounds like "I Grip Penis" hiding in Peter's Church.

    • @deathsheadknight2137
      @deathsheadknight2137 3 роки тому

      So all of these roving bands (who traveled with their families) were headquartered around Ukraine? Did no Roman ever think "Why are these people only attacking westward when they live so far away? What are they afraid of to the east of them?"

    • @cuddlesandkafka
      @cuddlesandkafka 3 роки тому

      @@deathsheadknight2137 I think they did think of it but Rome's geopolitics is defined not only by conquering and integrating new land but also by establishing client states on the borders as buffers to larger competing empires--Carpathia, for example, or Armenia.
