Honestly, for me personally, i despise this movie. Badly written, terrible characters, laughable political agenda, etc. For me, this movie just... sucks
@@Qthetar Oh there is. I certainly noticed it, and the actors have said this movie "tackles misogyny". Which is really a fancy way of saying "fuck men"
@@Qthetar I did, otherwise i wouldnt be saying it sucks. Lets see... practically every male character in this movie is a dick. Not one of them are actual believable males. They are just being dicks because they want to get their political message across "WE DONT NEED MEN! FUCK MEN" The villain is clearly a sexist plot device that attempts to drive this message about misogyny foward... but you can clearly see how it fails. This movie wants to tackle misogyny and it suceeds in a shitty way. This movie wants to have female empowerment and it fails in that regard to.
I just can't believe what they did to one of the best female Dc characters Cassandra Cain batmans daugther ,she is a such a damn good character and they just made her a normal girl ,plot device ,and a annoying girl who talks all the time. I said this already but ill say it again. In the comics she is someone with so much depth she can't speak cause her parents are the best assassins in the world ,and since she was born they've just been teaching her how to fight and noting else ,she is trapped inside her own mind not being able to communicate with others but in a way her language is fighting itself and the movement and passion behind it. She becomes batgirl at a certain point and batman treats her like a daughter basically and she treats him like a father, she is batgirl to me cause personally; I don't think barbra batgirl has any motivation she is a normal girl who decides to fight crime there is no real struggle to her character she is better as oracle. Cassandra though is legit one of best female characters in comics ever, and her first time ever in live action format, she gets butchered to death and is turned into a punchline. The thing is I am such a big dc fan I would've saw this even with all the feminist shit i don't care ,but my favorite female character is a joke so fuck this movie I hope this isn't cannon to the dceu cause the dceu needs Cassandra Cain. This is why you don't give a actor so much power in a movie about source material she knows noting about. If you want a really good story with her read the Batman rebirth detective comics short story with her Batwoman, Clayface, Tim Drake, Batman, and Stephanie Brown (who I don't like personally) or her origin comics.
PicThis What are you saying I never mentioned the actor for Cassandra Cain in any way. If you are referring to what I said at the end I am talking about how they gave Margo Robbie complete control of this movie when it came to hiring and the story even though Margo Robbie has no experience what so ever in that field.
@@nicktiznado8492 Wonder Woman wasn't good and was sub-par for even a generic super hero movie. Aquaman was just dumb schlock. Shazam was decent by super hero standards..
14:19 so a female friend of mine said it looks like Harley is dressed like a 5 year old that got dressed in the dark (this was after seeing the trailer)
The movie certainly tried to make the women role models against "toxic masculinity". Which 100% doesn't work when all the female leads are the worst people themselves. Besides Canary.
I think she can work as a role model given the right writing and character development. The Injustice series is probably the best example of how to make a her a good role model since over the course of the story, she learns how to get out her abusive relationship and become an actual superhero. In a way, she should kinda be treated as role model for people trying to recover from toxic relationships and fix their own toxic personalities. The thing about this movie however is that: 1) Nowhere is it stated her relationship with the Joker was actually abusive, especially since the last film with Harley established that it was a mutual loving relationship. 2) The film actually does more to imply that Joker was the one to break off the relationship, not Harley. 3) The movie never really criticize or calls out Harley for any of her terrible behavior, even going so far as to praise it. Even the Harley Quinn tv show, a show that's like 90% comedy, still makes sure to spend time having Harley examine and confront her selfish and toxic behavior in order to learn from it. 4) Harley doesn't actually go through any form of character development. She doesn't learn how to get out of a abusive relationship since that either happened off-screen or never happened in the first place. She doesn't lean how to be her own independent person because she starts off the film as her own independent person. She doesn't learn that any of her personality traits are also toxic and unhealthy.
@@trevordavis6830 That's not a role model. That's just one example of a character arc having something positive in it. Stop to parse and actually understand what "Role Model" means.
@@Amrylin1337 Role Model: a person looked to by others as an example to be imitated. Stop to understand that to some people, a person who is able to get out of a terrible relationship and discover how to be independent can be inspiring.
Cassandra Cain (Batgirl, Orphan) is my favorite comic book character. she was done terribly in this movie. Her fighting skill is supposed to up their with batman, she was trained to be an elite assassin since she was a toddler. She can read body language as it was her first language, predicting intention and trajectory of attacks. Her mother is Lady Shiva!!!! Shes a legit badass and shes like a no one in this movie!!!!! Ill stick to Young Justice cause at least she made a cameo in that cartoon. Also, WHERE THE HELL IS ORACLE!???? She MADE the Birds of Prey, not fucking Harley!!!!!
@@ChillandQuill I don't know much about DC, but now I know that and simply stand by the statement but in reverse. Why does Damien exist if this other near identical character is already there?
They made Zsasz gay? But isn’t his whole character developed around the idea that he doesn’t see life as having any value? And that people are just objects - he kills so many people because he doesn’t have empathy for life. He doesn’t like men or women because he’s a psychopath who kills people to liberate them from their body, how can someone like the even be attracted to men or women? Clearly the people who made the movie just wanted to fulfil a statistical agenda, without even looking into the motivations of the characters they are using. Pathetic.
I feel like this is the setup to a much more interesting Birds of Prey movie. Though I don't know why they called this character Cassandra Cain when they are not in anyway like the character premise.
Its sounds like they did a disservice to Detective Montoya, who was a great character in Batman: TAS. and in the comics when on the become The Question.
The part about why they did black canarys daughter that's actually the way it was in comics when they went from golden to silver age they replaced black canary with her daughter.
Birds of Misandry, the movie 2020.... 3/10 it would of been been lower if Margo wasnt in the movie. Well at least they're trying to give women rolls as super heros/villans ala Amber Heard
I've watched a couple of other reviews as well as this one, and they explain how the movie completely screwed over the Cassandra Kane character. Apparently in the comics she is a badass female assassin, who is the daughter of Lady Shiva (THE badass assassin), CK also became the 2nd Batgirl, and later became Orphan. What do Warner Bros do with such a character? They turn her into a pickpocket who can barely throw a punch.
The more I hear about this the more I hate it. I'm a HUGE Cassandra Cain fan. Since you guys apparently don't know who she is in the DC Universe quick rundown. She's mute because she was never taught how to speak. She's the daughter of Lady Shiva and David Cain, Cain taught her how to "speak" with martial arts where he'd tell her to speak to someone whom she'd kill by saying essentially "Hi, nice to meet you." She was the bodyguard of Ra's Al Ghul and viewed essentially as a living weapon. Cassandra runs away from this life and meets Barbra Gordon who teaches her how to speak english and allows her to take on the mantle of Batgirl. A Batgirl trained to the point where Batman himself says he couldn't take her on in a direct hand to hand fight. So you see why I say FUCK THIS MOVIE. She should be able to beat the HELL out of Black Mask and ALL of his men. They RUIN this character. You guys are mad about Doomsday in Batman V Superman? I'm mad about how they fucked up Cassandra Cain. They did her MORE dirty than Doomsday.
Sad thing is, this movie is probably going to guarantee we NEVER get to see Cassandra in the batsuit on the big screen. I've been a fan of hers since I read about her in the Batman: No Mans Land novel and was so excited to hear about her being in this, probably as excited if not more about Superman fans seeing Doomsday being in BvS. There's literally no reason to attach Cassandra's name to this. Its almost like they looked at the comics and went "Oh, asian girl. That'll fill the diversity quota." and NEVER even GLANCED at her character. I usually don't get mad at movies. I usually am able to just shrug and go with it. I like Suicide Squad and Dragon Ball Evolution is a guilty pleasure of mine. This movie literally makes me mad with how they fuck up a character so bad and insult them.
@@DigitalGamerPixel It's as if in the animated serie they decided to give Joker a girlfriend sidekick and went "hey, there's a Katana character, she's asian, let's retcon her completely". No, they created a character to fill that role and here came Harley Queen. There's no point in what they did with Cass, it's just dumb
The part when the three women are dressed up in the shitty costumes,it reminded me of a scene in the film mystery men where they are auditioning to find team members and those three girls look like they went and they didn’t make the cut, shows how bad their suits are when the blue raja costume is better 😂
Woah! Woah. Mystery men was off the chain bro. Tread carefully here. ;p Seriously though, one of my favorite moments in movie history was; "He fell down an elevator shaft... onto some bullets? "You know I've always suspected a bit of foul play" "AS Have I." Movie was great
The Black Mask hangs a Mob boss upside down with his wife and daughter and has Zsasz cut their face off. But... he's not a bad guy considered here. I should mention he was going to let the daughter go but- she had a snot bubble so- she had to die aswell.
because joe, alex and oj recognise the fact that this film will lead to very little real-world implications. you don't have to agree with the message, but claiming that its existence is harmful is just silly. nothing about your life will change if harley beats up some dude in a fictional movie.

While I agree with mostly everything in this review, there's one thing that I was very disappointed in and before anyone in the comments starts flipping out let me say this: Was this an alternate universe film or does it actually tie in to the canon of the DC genre. The reason I ask this is because the use of diversity in this film and I am not the only person who feels that diversity in films where a canon character is taken and gender/race swapped is a bad thing. Black Canary for example, they state it's the original Black Canary's daughter but, there's only ever been one African Black Canary and that was more of an AU. Black Canary has been a Caucasian Female in MULTIPLE CANON areas of DC Universe and she hooked up with Green Arrow I believe it was... but the FATHER was not black either so how they are explaining how Black Canary suddenly turned 5 or 6 shades darker in skin tone isn't sitting well. Taking tokenized characters and swapping them like this is really bothersome and pissing many people off, look what they did to MJ in the Spider-verse for example. If companies really want to make new empowered characters for new generations to follow, MAKE THEM YOURSELF. Stop taking characters that the fans of the franchise love so much and turning them into something they are not and claiming it's all part of the canon universe and not an AU (Alternate Universe). The same thing can be said for Domino in DeadPool and to reiterate I am talking about characters that have had a larger standing in any specific genre. Not small time villains or heros or even people the heros/villains know for a few issues. Diversity is fine in films, I encourage it... but it has to stop when you want to use it to turn iconic/token characters already in the franchise into something else entirely. That's simply my opinion on it and I feel many others who are true fans of the comic book industry agree.
I have been silently observing in the back ground, on many UA-cam channels, particularly dealing with DC. I always been a DC fan, ever since a young kid. And now that I am 43 yrs old, in this day in age of the super hero genre, I am finally seeing my childhood dreams come true. With that said, I watched Birds of Prey this past weekend. I was mildly disappointed in the vision, brand, and consistency. This movie felt like a Harley movie, rather then a BOP movie. The fact WB is changing the title tells you everything you need to know. This movie is indicative of the larger problem with WB. That is, no direction, no vision, no consistency. Harley Quinn is at best an ancillary character. She is a character that should be established, once the more prominent characters are already established. Which Zack Snyder was trying to do. But fans never asked for a solo Harley Quinn. We wanted a sequel to MOS, a Batman movie with DeathStroke, and a Flash movie. What it also shows, is how WB is grossly out of touch with the fan base. When you don’t listen to the fans, this is what happens! You can look at the video game industry, as an example of when corporations don’t listen to fans. For instance, when Final Fantasy fans wanted a remake of FF7, Square Enix, instead dropped FF XIII: Lightening Returns. Fans were disappointed, and as a result, sales for XIII declined severely. Which at that point cheapened the brand of FF, and ruined the lore, as it was the first time in a FF series where there was a sequel. Fans were infuriated. And it showed on forums such as Square’s Facebook page. Every time Square made a post promoting XIII, FF fans made it known how unhappy they were. Needless to say, when Zack was creating the universe, at least he respected the brand, and more importantly, at least had a vision. I’m only getting older, and I hope one day to see Braniac, DeathStroke, and quit possibly a legion of doom one day on the big screen. But with this garbage that WB has put lately, I have lost all hope. I really thought Zack has a vision. Which is why, WB should at least release the Snyder cut now, to make up for the massive profit lost of Birds of Prey. This is the opportunity for fans, to push the leverage to release the Synder Cut. WB has taken a significant blow this one. But with WW84 and Synder cut on HBO Max, they can make their money back.
@Porter And clearly the studios were wrong about that. Going woke didn't increase again... it decreased the market pool if anything because their core audience didn't want to see this. 😄

“Just because joker doesn’t have his face paint on doesn’t mean he’s not joker” that’s his calling card Joe.... black mask has a black mask. Joker has face paint... Batman has a cowl. Angry joes logic on full display this episode.
Joe is one of those people who would rather see the actors face than the heroes mask, and those people are stupid AF, I came to watch a movie about Spiderman or Batman, I want to see Spiderman or Batman not their damn secret identities. I HATED it whenever Iron man or Cap took off their masks in the movies, hated it so damn much. Look I get it, actors are vain AF and hollywood thinks that makes them money but come the fuck on.
@@GodhandPhemto Dude even in the comics Tony took off his fucking helmet, the only one you get some clout for is Captain America. Obviously you don't know how vain Tony is, because when he had the Endo Sym, he loved that the villain could see his face. Now get over your fanboy, every hero NEEDS to wear a mask schtick. This ain't the 1950's, people can do what the fuck they want to their costumes. " I want to watch a movie about just the hero persona"... ya know they tried that once and it still was lauded as the worst super hero movie ... YOu make it like they didn't do the split everyday life in the comics and shit you bought as a kid, and then you think you have the right to put the shit in a movie? "But it's named Iron man i want to see a full movie about the hero" Yup...so were the comics and you still got to see "Tony Stark", hell Deadpool, and everyone in between despite it being "Iron Man" and he might be only shown like 6-7 panels out the 97 panel issue. So your argument is beyond stupid. Now if the argument was, i didn't like Black Mask because his mask should've been his face , because yes...yes it is. In the iteration during an accident in his familial home the mask gets burned and becomes part of his face complete when he talks it moves as if part of his face, and it encases his entire skull. Then i can see that argument! "But heroes wear mask and anyone that disagrees are vain tryhards and only want to see the persona outside the hero." is wrong. We can enjoy both parts! There's no one without the other!

For me, when I saw the advertising, it advertised itself as a DC superhero film that didn't want to be a superhero film. None of the outfits were there, and when I say that I mean that both The Huntress and Black Canary were supposed to have full body armor type outfits, not a tank top that looks like it was more belts than clothing. And what the bleep idea was it to have Black Canary go rasta? I thought she was a lawyer for goodness sake, how the *** would you get away with that in an office? And considering that Black Canary had a b***ch a**s leather, why the (bleep) is she running around in a tank top? Even Harley was a lot less coordinated and practical in her outfits than what we've come to expect as fans. The Emancipation of Harley and the formation of the Birds of Prey may indeed be considered feminist, but the comics also held it pretty practical in nature and I, a white male, was actually looking forward to this. But I watch the trailers and see a bunch of unknowns in street rags fighting in the streets and I realize that this is a superhero movie that, for whatever reason, does not want to be seen as a superhero movie.
Lower all those scores by 1 or 2. Man of Steel 56% TOMATOMETER 75% AUDIENCE SCORE Birds of Prey is stupid. Harley walks into a police station where all the cops would be armed, they would have shot her.

That however, isn’t the actor’s fault. The fault lies within the director. Without good direction, the actor has to fill in the space.

Wait you guys thought Harley Quinn is supposed to be a role model?... Wat?
The movie certainly tried to make the women role models against "toxic masculinity".
Which 100% doesn't work when all the female leads are the worst people themselves. Besides Canary.
@@leovanilla6833 Harley is literally doing cocaine in the trailer...
The thing about this movie however is that:
1) Nowhere is it stated her relationship with the Joker was actually abusive, especially since the last film with Harley established that it was a mutual loving relationship.
A person whose able to get and recover from an abusive relationship and toxic personality traits can be a role model for those who feel stuck in an abusive relationship or feel like they can't get rid of their own toxic personality traits. Stop to understand that to some people, a person who is able to get out of a terrible relationship and discover how to be independent can be inspiring.

She's the daughter of Lady Shiva and David Cain, Cain taught her how to "speak" with martial arts where he'd tell her to speak to someone whom she'd kill by saying essentially "Hi, nice to meet you."
She was the bodyguard of Ra's Al Ghul and viewed essentially as a living weapon.
I hope they read this. They didn't give her any respect after looking her up... smh
Well said
What they did with MJ in Spider-verse? She was her normal redhead self? Are you talking about the MCU MJ?
For marvel the mcu is an alternate universe
I would hope that a character called Black Mask would wear his black mask ngl

For me, when I saw the advertising, it advertised itself as a DC superhero film that didn't want to be a superhero film. None of the outfits were there, and when I say that I mean that both The Huntress and Black Canary were supposed to have full body armor type outfits, not a tank top that looks like it was more belts than clothing. Basically the ease at which you speak and read is how she fights. For a long time she was like one of the top three fighters. Aaaaanddd they turned her into a defenceless pick pocket.

Here in Italy (or at least in my town) we don't have matinee but at least the prize for a movie isn't that high (so at least if the movie is disappointing you don't waste a lot of money):
Monday & Tuesday: 6€
Wednesday: 5€
Thursday through Sunday and during holidays: 7€
“Now I understand why you guys need our movie reviews.” No please joe no more lol 😂
Unfortunately the writer(s) for this movie did what most writers mistakenly do, they wrote in way to much backstory. If they wrote the movie with most of the audience already knowing the basics of their backstories and went straight to a main story-line, i think the film would of been a lot better.
Not doing JoJo Rabbit? Movie looks funny and has some heart.
Movie's here in the Northeast are about $11-13 at a nice theater for (Closer to $11 for standard - closer to $13 for XD).
That being said I usually hit the first showings in the morning which only costs $8 :>
* And looking through the comments it appears at some places have Tuesday discounts (For some reason) around $5-6
It's not good fashion guys. But, the glitter gun is really cool!
Here in Quebec Canada, it's 18$ca for AVX and 12 or 15$ca for regular tickets. Its literally 50$ca , tickets, pop corn and stuff, to go see a movie me and my daughter.
Birds of Prey > Suicide Squad (2016)
But does that really mean anything?
Id watch Birds of Prey over Rise of Skywalker
I have a Cinemark Theater in Sherman Texas that plays movies for $5 on Tuesdays $8 on every other day but there's also a Midway theater that plays movies for $2 on Tuesday and $5 every other day and in downtown Denison Texas there used to be a theater that played 50 Cent movies
It's DC man, what did you expect? WB can't make a good one to save their lives.
joker
Ben James I think he meant the dceu lol I think
Shazam!
Man of steel,Wonder Woman, Aquaman,Shazam even Birds of prey has 82% rotten tomatoes rating
DC seems to have a track record of wasting their villains in their cinematic universe
I havent seen the movie yet but from what ive heard this is a telling of a story threw harley quinns eyes so maybe some of the issues you guys had can be explained by the fact that maybe things didnt really happen exactly the way they were shown. I mean harley is crazy so how much of what she says can actually be trusted. just playin devils advocate but maybe my impression will change after seeing it myself.

Yes that’s true, that’s why the movie’s title is so silly. But it’s still a very mediocre movie at best.
Haha! Movies are usually $21.50 here in LA. $18.50 is matinee.. 😂😂😂
If someone as naieve as Stuckmann could pick up on the wokeness in this movie....you KNOW something is going on
yea the guy is usually pretty whiped
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 he gotta keep those views coming in lol
Bio Dome and The Pest are comedy classics from the mid 90s. I absolutely still quote those movies today. John Leguizamo is great in Spawn also.
IMO the scene where the flash runs around sups after his revive and his head turns to him as he is running by is worth 1-2 points on its own, possibly the coolest sequence of any of the new DC movies
Zim Zimmerman that scene was dope!
The fucking dramatic sound that plays the instant his eyes moves and everyone goes "OH FUCK" is 10/10 shit that doesn't deserve the movie it's in.
Birds of prey: Man Bad, Women Good, The Movie.
Also movies are only like 8.50 around where I live. Maybe 10-15 if you go to an AMC.
It’s not about profits! It’s about social engineering. Story telling devices is programming
what's it like in looneyville?
@@HarshNerf he's right, normies watching these propaganda films won't understand because all you know how to do is coomsume, you simply can't see the brainwashing going on.
Movie theaters in Pennsylvania for the most part charge about 12 to 15 bucks.
"Everyone in L.A. apparently likes it".
I believe you, but luckily there is a whole earth outside of L.A., New York (City), Seattle and "'Frisco".
And to people who live in those cities and know what I'm talking about - You're one of the good ones.
For the record, Im from NY and I hate the woke garbage as much as everyone else. NY is bad, but no where near as bad as the people in LA. Don't lump us together, thats offensive.
Imagine being so stupid you think everyone from a certain area thinks the same damn thing like they were some damn Hive Mind. Vocal Minority bruh, same thing for the south, not everyone there is a low IQ cousin fucker thats stuck in the 1800s but there are very vocal people there who give off that impression that all southerners/rural people are like that, and we know that isnt true either, unless of course we think the same way as you do.
@@Nicktrito "that's offensive", of course you had to go there :D;)
L.A. (in certain areas) might be worse, but there is still a good amount of snobism and "wokeness" to be found; but don't worry, I never said that everyone there is the same, or that the cities are on the exact same level, but they are the ones with the highest density.
@@GodhandPhemto I never even said that everyone there is like this (as you can actually read in the last sentence of my previous comment), but I guess pretending that I said that, so you can make a better personal attack you "brainiac", is the better way; those cities are the ones with the highest density of "wokeness", no need to pretend this isn't true.
But hey, you did prove that you can be an obnoxious snob without living in those areas, good for you buddy.
The Extended version of B vs S is much better though.
BACK TO THE FUTURE all female cast. We all know its coming.
Luckily Robert Zemeckis has no interest in a reboot and is making sure no one touches his franchise.
A little response to your request about ticket prices: Here in Germany in the UCI cinemas, the most expensive adult ticket in a regular viewing of Birds of Prey is 12,80 €, the most expensive adult ticket in an IMAX viewing is 16,70 €.
