    I never understood people being like "oh, but they're your friends, how can you trust them to give honest feedback". If you're really friends, they'll be honest about your work, because that honesty is super valuable for improving that work. Super happy, you're surrounded by people you can trust in that regard, because it's an invaluable resource to have! Also genuinely love the vibe this wip is giving off. You've got this!

    This feels like such a bittersweet video! I will miss all your footage of Thailand and the way you shared that with us. It’s been so lovely! The cat cafe! 😻 Oh, my heart about missing your students! 😭 I wish you the best of luck with your multiple transitions (going back to the States, starting your Masters program, and finishing MOTHS). That’s a lot for anyone, but also very exciting!
    I’m so intrigued by MOTHS and I’m glad you got such wonderful feedback from all your beta readers. I will be going through some of my beta reader/critique partner feedback of my PhD dissertation novel (Adult contemporary fantasy) this month (haven’t looked at it since I turned it in in August) and I’m doing exactly what you are. Just seeing where more people comment on certain areas and I think I have an idea of what needs to be revised also. This will be my 4th draft. Getting ready to query between April and June (June at the latest hopefully). 🤞
    I LOVE contemporary fantasy and Lark sounds like such an intriguing character as well as all the worldbuilding you have. And the alchemy. I am captivated! 😍
    It’s interesting what you said about alchemy and its real world applications. I’m also drafting a YA horror novel that has to do with parapsychology, which is an actual academic discipline that people can study. It’s so fascinating.

      Aw I'm so touched that you enjoyed the bits I shared of my life in Thailand!! Thank you very much, it's going to be so busy.
      Ahh, good luck with your own feedback, and with querying-that's so so exciting!! And thank you for your kind words about Moths

    this is a very interesting video, mainly because i have zero friends that read, so they would never give me proper fb (my anxiety would never let me send it anyways, lol), and also since you're getting different fb, and finally, i absolutely love the moth vids!! thanks for posting 🤍

    Ooooh, there's so much to comment on here, but I'm going to try to limit myself from writing War & Peace in the comments once again (Even though I'll end up doing it anyway.)
    "Good person is a fake concept." I love these vlogs because I always get to hear some very interesting quotes. Although, fundamentally, I do agree with what you're saying here. I find that it's often the people who think themselves incapable of falling for something that are the most likely to fall for it. And also, I think in recent years, people have been kind of (over)-obsessing over "reading with their morals," so I find that a lot of people just can't handle flawed/slightly problematic characters anymore, which is sad. Not everyone can be Captain America. We need our Walter Whites, too. It's what makes media so complex and interesting.
    It's always fun to get a deep analysis of your own work. Honestly, that's what I live for. I dream of someone in like, 20-30 years doing an hour long video analysis of something that I wrote. And if I get the chance to see that, it might just bring a tear to my eye. Haha

      Breaking Bad is one of my all-time favorite shows, you're absolutely right in that fiction is made variable and interesting by an array of characters who reflect our worst and best traits!
      Deep analysis is the best, I hope you get the experience that hour-long video essay someday!

    I have aphantasia too and my therapist read some of my work and said my work was descriptive and then I told her I have aphantasia and add description in editing because of that, we were both shocked lol. I was shocked to hear my writing described as vivid.

    • @lynndjung
      @lynndjung  7 місяців тому +2

      lol I love to hear that other writers with aphantasia have been able to overcome those assumptions!!

    Thinking about this from a character sketch point of view, I can testify that at least Chinese east asian women, at least the ones I know and the one I am married to, are generally very well put together, but I would not in any way classify any of the ones I have ever met as the least bit docile or passive. They also don't generally walk around angry with life either though. If any sort of realistic stereotype (is that a thing? hmmm) begins to form in my mind.........it is more of generally happy, absolutely fierce in pursuit of their goals, small c conservative (not any western definition of that), family orientated, generally have a mind for business by default (it seems to be wired in), and always real. I have never had a conversation with any of them that was about abstract things that could happen some day to someone, it's always about what's real. I mean I am basically classifying over 3/4 a billion people based on the maybe 50 people I know, but it's at least based in some form of reality. To be clear, I am speaking about actual Chinese women and not say American Born Chinese who would be entirely different, or at least I have zero experience in actually knowing any of them. I can say that according to native Chinese, American Born Chinese are very different from them.
