My biggest pet peeve is when people ask me to let them read my unfinished, completely un-edited work …
I feel you but at least they're interested, most people don't give a crap and will expect your writing to be bad anyway
When you're told to write what you know because it gives authentic characters, yeah I write about people who have done me wrong. I can pour all those emotions they've created into my work. I don't think that's an issue and it can be deeply cathartic. They live in the page to remind me that I've come out stronger on the other side. I survived them, I can survive the next. It's just about preferences
Hi Ana! I definitely understand the one about having ideas but not being able to write them down but it’s great to see another writer I can relate to
when i heard you talking about the disappointment when people will think about making books then them saying "they don't have the time" that hit close but in this case I AM the problem ;-; i remember as i child i'd make comic books and it was the cheesiest thing ever but i liked to make stories but for years i've been pressured to make something GOOD---so much to the point that the pressure overrides the motivation and i just don't write but creative ideas never left me so idk at this point idk if i just need a new medium (maybe script/screen-writing) im really lost at this point

I know you're big on pantsing, so maybe you or someone in the comments can show their side
But it gets on my nerves when pantsers (as a plotter) say that they have no motivation if they plan the book out. What happens when it gets to draft 2 then? Or draft 3, 4, etc etc (and when you pants, the more you have to fix, the more drafts it takes to get a cohesive and consistent book)
Writing a book isn't about your ability to write pretty sentences or the most inspired plot in the world. Its about having the discipline to sit down and do it over and over again whether you want to or not. Famous authors don't write a book a year by relying on motivation.
(Before someone says it, there is a BIG difference between burnout and losing motivation for a project.)
i think a lot of pantsers write first and plot it out later. Like, theyre not gonna be able to stick w a story if they have to plan out every character amd setting. But for me, getting out what i want to say and then fixing it all is fine for me. I do very minimal planning, mostly just in my head or a little bit in my notes app. I like figuring out the story as I go, and then rewriting. Id say im in between a plotter or pantser

My biggest pet peeves are when I tell people the title of the novel but I change it every five minutes 😂 and, trying to write the first sentence.

If I ever use someone I know's name in a book I do it purely for personalities sake, writing the character with that name makes me think of that person and how they would react so it helps me match my characters traits. (Then once I'm finished I just replace the name with the characters actual name)

Biggest pet peeve, and maybe this is just a personal thing for me: when I tell people I'm writing a book and they get extremely excited and tell me they can't wait to read it and how they believe it's going to be so good. I appreciate the support from them all, but it kinda makes me feel extra pressure and kind of doubles down on the Imposter Syndrome for me. I've always been told I've had great writing since I was younger, and my soon-to-be debut novel is a great opportunity to put my passion, my hobby, my "talent" on display for people to see, but the more I receive motivational comments from the people I'm closest to, the more I feel kind of pressured to put out something extremely incredible when I feel like my idea and story is so basic that it's not stand-out worthy. Maybe it's just the Imposter Syndrome taking over my thoughts, but seriously, it kinda sucks from time to time.

The grammar mistakes are something I hate too! Though I struggle with it still as well.

Hello! This is definitely not professional but I've come up with an idea which might help you out: You can use scene breaks. If you want the story to have two characters doing different things at the same time, for example, one of the mc is spying while the other is hacking in a different room, you could do the pov of the spy first (and specify the timing in a unique way), then add a scene break and jump into the hacker's pov in that same time. (but make sure to identify who's pov has started if you do it this way 'cause it might get confusing)
But if you're trying to do a story or scene where the two characters are having a banter and you want to share both of their povs at the same time with each of their dialogue, you could add their own inner monologue attached to their dialogue (although some people discourage this as it's known as 'head hopping' and might confuse the reader)

You edited your reply while I was already typing for what I had read before but as you said about writing the inner monologue with their dialogues it wouldn't just confuse the reader I'll be damn confused too💀(while writing)
@@ivvfifi lmaooo yea I searched it up and wanted to make some changes 'cause I thought I wasn't saying the right thing. I researched about third person omniscient and about the inner monologue thing and basically people discourage it cause it can get confusing for having multiple povs at the same time, so maybe try the first idea? Or since you only have 2 povs it might work, not sure though
@@adeenafathima3534 the first idea is great too but both of my protagonist are always together so it will look like the second idea only..maybe i should go with one mc only that way it will be better..

9:29. Not the exact same but slightly similar. It's when people find out you're a writer and then ask if you can base a character off them. And then depending on the person you are you either say yes or no. Then if you say yes you lie about it because you don't think they'll ask you about it again. But then THEY DO AND KEEP DOING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Like kindly, please stfu :) Not only that but also when characters don't follow the development plan and do their own thing. Like tell me how that's possible when we know where we want them to go, and somehow that doesn't happen?? Like I wanted my characters to be this, this and this and end up like that, that and that. But then they just...don't??? It's so frustrating and confusing. Especially when you don't like the way the story is going and need to re-write everything. I've done that more than three times. So fun

19:40.....litrally my project is project b lmao. Also related to that certain scenario, I really want to be like the person who shares their story, and I have done an intro to my characters on my account, but not the plot and whatnot. I want to so bad but I'm scared of people taking the idea for some reason and then I just...don't. That's probably why content related to my books doesn't do very well, but it's terrifying!
Okay but when your friends/family ask what the plot is but then they say they don't want you to spoil it. This has happened to me SO many times....

I've seen some strange things online over the years, but a video of someone with 91k subscribers, who makes videos about writing, where she tells viewers she hates bad grammar, but also has no interest in learning grammar, 'hates' having to learn about using it correctly, and that language isn't as important for poetry... I don't know man, this is some of the wildest shlt I've ever heard in my life.
You've told us elsewhere you use AI to re-order your prose, which feels a lot like letting the computer handle the actual writing process. You don't seem to have any interest in language or learning how to craft it. Why bother? I just don't get it.
