Very helpful to those of us who own XJs but are not professional mechanics. Well made video and you're a good narrator of the entire process. Thank you.
No problem, glad I could help. I don’t consider myself a mechanic either. I try to make these videos with beginners in mind and make it very easy to understand without skipping anything. Thanks for watching!
These videos are so flipping helpful! Seriously! For what it's worth, in my 93 4.0 Cherokee, I was able to drop the pan w/o even disconnecting the dipstick. I just kept twisting it some and then I dropped it towards the driver's side front wheel and it came out all together. And I don't even have it jacked up. Many thanks again!
Great video, one tip is to clean and apply just the tiniest amount of anti seize to the dipstick coupler, that will help to get it off way easier in the future.
Remember when putting the pan back on, to use a criss cross pattern when putting the bolts back on the pan. Great job on that, I really enjoyed the video!!
After trying to wiggle tube loose and not having any luck, I went straight to this. Some say it makes it harder, but it will work easier than fighting with the tube.
Small thing but at 12:00 those bottles are actually designed to be poured in the other direction with the spout at the top so you dont get that "chugging" as it gasps for air.
Another great video as usual! Thanks for keeping me busy, young man! I’m a fan of Castrol so I’ll be using 2+ gallons of their Transmax High Mileage fluid for vehicles over 75k miles to do a full flush on my 2000 XJ with only +137k miles! 😉✌🏼
I didn't see any mention of you re-connecting the dip-stick tube. As that was evidently one of the most difficult things to separate, how was it to put back on and surely it's fairly critical or you're not going to be able to check the fluid level and dirt is going to get in through the open pipe. - Not being off, just think it needs to be mentioned. Thanks for the video, all the same. It's a big help.
Fun fact when you can't get the dipstick tube off and you can't cut it the job is actually doable with the pan in the car you just have to unbolt the dipstick tube mount to let the pan drop another five inches or so
Personally, I would follow the manufacturers instructions and only use the lubricants that they recommend. My Cherokee has over 360,000 km or 223,694 miles and it still runs perfect.
That’s what I’ve been trying to stick to. Can’t remember exactly what they recommend for this but I believe it was dexron 2 and I used the upgraded dexron 3
Nice work man. I have a question man. can I use dexon VI full synthetic ATF , or Universal Synthetic ATF, for my 2001 xj. I saw that you usted two mineral quarters dexon III and two full synthetic ATF.
Thanks! I used 4 quarts of dexron III (I bought 2 quarts of the wrong oil and corrected myself later on). I believe the owners manual says to use dexron II but everybody recommends dexron III
Hey man what made u do all of this when I drive my xj 2000 some reason it likes to stay in 3rd gear for a while while driving could this be my issue it’s auto
I did this just to flush out all the fluids right after I got it. And I’m not too sure on your issue, maybe your Jeep just has a loss of power so that’s why it needs to stay in 3rd gear for a longer time, could be a number of different things
Lol. There is no wiggling the dipstick tube. I actually pulled my dipstick tube through the engine bay and have the whole thing out. Torched it, lube, u name it and it still won't budge
how you have 14.3k subscribers is beyond me? I thought you were going to break out your purse at any moment. Get a shop light instead of a flash light. After breaking the bolts (not screws) loose, you had use a gun to remove the bolts faster.

Glad I could help, thanks for watching! How’d you drop the pan without disconnecting the dipstick? Did it come out with the entire dipstick assembly?
@@KCars it sure did! I put some tape over the dipstick to keep any rust from scrapping into there just in case. Many thanks again!
@@ryanganador1214 ahhh good thinking, thanks for watching!
I’m so glad I do dustless blasting for a living it saves so much time cleaning stuff up
After searching videos came across with this easy to understand explenation, step by step without any technical terms, just easy and simple. Thnks.

I think I did but good tip, thanks for watching!
Pulling the top half of the dipstick where it bolts to the bell housing before dropping the trans pan make this much easier
After trying to wiggle tube loose and not having any luck, I went straight to this. Some say it makes it harder, but it will work easier than fighting with the tube.

We have the exact same XJ. You’ve been very helpful on my XJ journey 🤙🏽
Small thing but at 12:00 those bottles are actually designed to be poured in the other direction with the spout at the top so you dont get that "chugging" as it gasps for air.
Yep, not a huge deal but you’re right about that. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the vid man, my 2000 XJ is a lil low and thought I should change it. Your video helped a lot!
Glad I could help, thanks for watching!
Do you drain the fluid cold or have it reach operating temp? I want to do a drain and refill only on my 98 xj
Nice video. You deserve way more fame.
Monkey Tales Productions thanks, appreciate it🙏🏻
Is the transmission operating fine still?
Looks like someone was in there not too long before you were.. Those magnets looked practically as clean as can be and that fluid looked real fresh
Ya I was pretty surprised when I saw that the fluid was still red
Nice. You made it look really easy. Thx for sharing. That's my next attempt

whats the fluid capacity?

That’s what I’ve been trying to stick to. Can’t remember exactly what they recommend for this but I believe it was dexron 2 and I used the upgraded dexron 3
So what fluid do you use?
You could probably use wet concrete for fluid and you’d hit 300k on an xj 😂
Is this the same process for a 4.0L, 5 speed manual transmission?
Never worked on the AX5 but I’m assuming it would be very similar if not the same

Look up TV cable adjustment. It's an easy fix.
I need to look into that as well. My Jeep doesn’t like downshifting at highway speeds when I need more power
My buddy had that issue but then a week later he got hit by a bus so we dont have to worry about it anymore 😂
@@KCars I have a video on our channel Patriot72 on how to adjust the cable. God bless!

Why no pure synthetic. I have read many good results from dex 6 pure synthetic
I’ve heard that it can be so smooth that it can sometimes cause leaks. I just like to go by what the owners manual recommends
I was told 10 quarts, now im hearing 4....which one is right?
4
6
11
4 to change the fluid from pan, 8 to change entire system (AW4 Trans according to Haynes Manual)
Good video
Thanks!
Why do u call bolts screws
I didn’t know the correct terminology, gotta start somewhere🤷🏼♂️
Great video bro. Shame about the Indian.. HD for ever😂😂😂😂
Thanks for watching!
Put transmission in Neutral? And then check oil level in Middle?
I kept it in park the whole time, not sure if it matters
You also have to have the Jeep idle in Neutral while the engine is running otherwise you wont get an accurate reading on the dipstick.
nitroman111 thanks!
That’s false on the AW4
@@Justin1701xbox no it’s not, read the dipstick, specifically states to have the vehicle idle in neutral when checking
My dipstick says to idle in park on my 92 xj 🤷🏼♂️
Thanks

De Nada 👌
Why do none of these videos mention anything about not working for 4wd applications. My axle’s in the way.
My Jeep is 4wd. Your axle is in the way of the transmission?
@@KCars yessir. Maybe its because my jeep is a mail jeep? It shouldnt effect trans / diff / driveshaft placement tho
I can’t think of any reason why an axle would be in the way of the transmission. Only thing that was slightly in the way for me was the cross member
@@KCars the crossmember was in the way, as was the exhaust, but had i been able to rotate it it wouldnt be so bad
Hmmmm
why two full synthetic
This was a mistake, I corrected it towards the end of the video
I would just change the fluid never changed the filter
Why not the filter?
@@KCars to be honest I don't think there's any benefit of doing it . Got over 200 grand on mine and never changed it
New filter certainly won't hurt, best to change it while in there.. Its cheap & easy , and foolish not to
Were are your safety glasses
Never thought about wearing safety glasses for changing fluid
At the safety glass store
Bolt
The green screen tho
Did that idiot call water pump pliers a clamping thing
NO
