- My favourite Genki Sudo Highlight video of all time was when he was at the Westside Tournament, and the Neo Samurai put on a spectacular grappling performance. I must have watched this a thousand times back in the day, and so I have restored it to the best of my ability to 4K Ultra HD resolution with a 60FPS framerate. I have also included a bonus at the end of an interview excerpt with Chris Brennan from my podcast "The Sonny Brown Breakdown". Chris Brennan was the host of the tournament and is the referee you see in the video. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to ask him about what happened that day.
I have been getting into video restoration to help the process of my breakdowns, and I hope you enjoy this historical and classic piece of grappling history.

After part 2 of Saku, I was going to ask if you'd do consider doing the same kind of mini doc on Genki.
I will put that on the someday list, I would love to but it would be another massive undertaking to give proper tribute to such a legend.
He was and is still so ahead of his time. He quit while he was ahead, became a musician, then now a political rep. So much talent in one guy!
Oh and he completely styled on Ludwig which is crazy

Incredible video and interview. I gotta ask: what resolution was the source video of the tournament? I have had a hell of a time trying to upscale anything with a source below 480p.
I cant remember which source, but was 240 or 480. Ive gotten better at it over time, selecting different models etc. One thing I've found is that upscaling multiple times will sometime work better, so from 240P double it once to 480 then go larger.
And sometimes just taking 240P and resizing it as a larger size without upscaling, then upscaling the result can also work. But it all depends on the footage.
