  • Breakdown & Analysis on The Arm Across Guillotine, also known as The Seated Kata-Gatame, and used recently by Jack "The Joker" Hermanson to score multiple submission victories in Mixed Martial Arts.
    Setup from the front headlock, the choke works with other submissions like the Anaconda, Darce and Arm-In Guillotine. While it will have you sitting back like a traditional guillotine choke for the finish, the finishing mechanics are more similar to a head and arm choke or Kata-Gatame, which is why it got the name Seated Kata-Gatame.
    I study the other setups of the choke and the other transitions to the defence, including a sweep to the back and moving directly into an anaconda choke. But most interesting may be the finish from the mount, which I called the Assassin choke, taken from a wrestling move called the Assasin, also known as the Kata-Sankaku in Judo.

    I've been using this a lot recently when people are hard to turn for the anaconda. I'll step around the outside as though to take the back, if they extend their arm to stop me from moving around I can hit the arm in guillotine, if they don't block the go behind I'll sit into the seated kata-gatame if that fails I take the back.
    It's such a strong position that I almost never go for a more standard turtle back take if I get the front headlock.

    this is what im working on currently in no gi bjj, from reverse x guard i force them to post their hands then quickly drop their far knee to the floor using my legs, that brings their head within range of me and i can wrap up the seated kata gatame, so far its promising so long as i get the timing correct and i am aided by the benefit of long arms.

    The front headlock with an arm in I've seen work as a turn in Judo by marti malloy doing it in turtle, I like doing the turn against a flat opponent in Judo. I was inspired by geo martinez doing it against hasim rida

    • @SonnyBrown
      @SonnyBrown  Рік тому

      True I didn't think of that one, I think he starts with the arm I for the turn and then switches to a high wrist when they stand? I'll have to go back and watch it.

    What's the best finish for this? Crunching in at the angle or extending your spine at the angle? Craig Jones says to crunch in, but Danaher says to extend out, so I'm lost lol

    • @lewis843
      @lewis843 10 місяців тому

      Looks like Nicky Ryan believes in extension rather than crunching for the finish too, which makes it even more confusing since Nicky and Craig are teammates
