    I don't care what anyone says, Cenk REALLY is the most open minded man in America (for a political analyst). He has problems with certain Republicans and Democrats alike. Is Cenk awesome? OF COUUURRRSEEE!

    I'm a black woman and I agree with you. I'm glad Cenk made this point. People are so afraid of this kind of conversation. The word "racist" takes a level 2 conversation to a level 10 in no time. It prevents people from really dealing with an issue.

    I hope we as a nation can start to talk about WHY things in our history are evil... rather than just saying... it's history now... so let's move on... the inequalities of today are Hinged upon the racism of yesterday...

    Very true... while I know that racism is still an issue, it's really not as big of a deal as people make it out to be... I'm from Georgia, and most people in my community have gotten over the issue of race (I know plenty of well-respected black/white couples that live here), and as you point out, Bush got called a chimp all the time and it wasn't taken as a racist statement. Everyone has become so concerned about being pc that no one can even discuss anything without being called a racist.

    to hit the nail on the head:
    If they say "yes this cartoon is racist we're sorry", then they're admitting to deliberately publishing a racist cartoon which opens them to huge criticism.
    If they say, "we're sorry to who this may have offended", then they're admitting it could have been perceived as racist and appologising to those people. This means that if they are being racist, it was by accident, which looks much better.

    Because what he said had nothing to do with your reply.
    He stated his opinion, which I happen to disagree with, and you went off about the history of slavery and how blacks aren't allowed to have special social privileges.
    It was just an unnecessary response to someone merely giving their opinion on a completely different subject.

    "Just because your born black doesn't mean you have things you're allowed to talk about that we're not."

    I for one am, happy about socialism and believe that it is NOT extended facism. Even with a good deal of socialism we can still get together and speak about things in a democratic fashion. I find that, just about anything to make life better for most of the people would be better then making life better for a small 1%
    I don't know why you see socialism as power mad. There are many strong socialist leaning countries that are doing quite well.

  • @8intimation8
    @8intimation8 15 років тому

    That IS the larger issue... and i really like how Cenk brought that point up here...
    We NEED to HAVE the discussions that Mr. Thurston brought up... and like Cenk says in this clip (and said on HIS show the other day regarding this story. in much more detail...GIVE HIM A SHOW :)) if we turn everything into an attack game... we WON'T get to talk about real things.. .like HOW it can be offensive... instead of the mindless debate that gets to exist if it is sumarally called offensive.

    Whether the NYT meant to be racist or not, it was still a dumb move to post that "satire". I'm black myself, and I often notice that some people who say things with racist undertones, aren't always racist, but just kind of stupid. We all should be talking about race MUCH MORE OFTEN. That way we can understand each other 100%, instead of "walking on thin ice" when trying not to offend someone. Still though, the NYT should've known better.

  • @Robfenix
    @Robfenix 15 років тому

    Wow. Cenk really controlled the conversation with points. When Shuster asked why aren't we having a more serious conversation about race, I wanted someone to say, "cuz MSNBC called us in to talk about this stupid cartoon instead of other more important things." Give Cenk the show and he'll ask better questions, have better topics and frame the topics better!

  • @Verinvord

    It seems to my like Cenk was the most sensible one, among them, when he immediately pointed out that maybe, just MAYBE, people are over-reacting just a smidgen, when they throw around the word "racist".
    On the other hand, I'm a white person, and I think people are over-reacting a lot, and the NYT apologized just fine, by directing it at the people who really were offended, and that they don't give a flying crapcake for the people who are just doing this to be malicious.
