  • This lecture has been viewed about 18 million times. About 1 million times on MIT's OCW, 7 million times in the channel "For the Allure of Physics" and about 10 million times in this channel. Walter Lewin puts his life on the line to demonstrate that he is a strong believer in the conservation of energy. He explained why the sky is blue, why the clouds are white and why sunsets are red. Great demonstrations! MIT video streamed this lecture in real time. It was viewed live by about 25 thousand people all over the world.

    He swings,
    He breaks a glass,
    He risks his life,
    He smokes,
    He inhales the smoke,
    He demonstrates sunset,
    He draws smooth dotted lines,
    He makes you laugh,
He leaves in his rocket bike,
    .
    .
    .
But most importantly, His lectures make you ❤ physics...

Absolutely. The other one I similarly admire is Prof. Robert Sapolsky for Biology. Anyone for Chemistry and Math? Not to the same caliber as these guys, but I had a wonderful math teacher in school. We had textbooks and there was a proof of the Pythagoras Theorem in it. He showed us three separate proofs of this theorem, showing us that the same problem can be tackled by many very different approaches, and the convergence of the results is one of the beauties of mathematics.

It's amazing to see a professor like Lewin who is so passionate about teaching. His enthusiasm is evident in every class, and you can see the student's engagement as a result. This type of dedication is rarely seen in college professors at my college. Unfortunately, most of them don't seem to care about their students or put any effort into preparing or delivering lectures. It's a shame that students have to suffer because of this apathy. I hope that Lewin's example will inspire more professors (teachers as well) to strive to reach his level of commitment to teaching.

I cried so many times, but I SOBBED seeing him take in his final lecture as they gave him a well deserved standing ovation 😭
My first crush was my sciences teacher in high school. I had him for 3/6 of the science classes I signed up for. I sat in the front of the class and got a 100% in all his courses. I fell in love with science and men with big brains because of him. I credit him for steering me to the love of my life, a brilliant Math and English nerd who treats me like a princess (compared to the “hot” guys I dated who treated me like crap). Teachers guide young minds far more than people realize, and my science teacher truly put me on all the right paths in life. Cherish the teachers who truly care as they are a thinning herd.

I lost the love for physics after 10th standard because i had to mug up all the concept and formula for the JEE and since then i started hated physics but UA-cam has recommended me this and i watched whole video (i thought i would watch it only for 5 min but ended up watching whole 61min) and this man has revived my love for physics thank you professor.
