This is a certified hood classic
Corvette is that mf with high-beams at 2am
Nah fr was like tf he has highs on for. Tactic I get it but still don't like it
@@FociPointit isssss what it issss
@@FociPoint It's actually a lot later than the video shows, the race cameras are on high exposure. You can see at 7:00, onboard one of the Acura LM cars how dark it really is.
Funny how a 911 and a corvette has had some of the most iconic battles in GT history. Can’t forget the Tandy and Estre battle in the last GTLM race at VIR!
I watch this at least once a year. Goosebumps every time.

My absolutely all-time favorite video of two of the best cars and drivers battling for a win.
Yes, the Acura prototype and the Corvette are really amazing
One of the best battles I've ever seen. When people ask my why I love GT racing this video is what I will show them. Thanks for reposting this classic!
You really forget the SOUND of that Corvette hot dang
Right?! Completely drowns out the Porsche. Now I understand why Porsche made the RSR-17 so loud 😂
Went to a lot of these events back in this era. Certain cars were SO much harsher on the ears and the vette was definitely the loudest
This use to have me standing in front of the TV
I'm going to throw it out there: GT racing is the absolute best that motorsport could provide (maybe rallying could match it, but nothing else). Cars that actually LOOK like real cars (manufacturers especially love this), they're more diverse than open-wheelers and prototypes could ever hope for, and the racing is just superb - yes, the latter two are down to BoP for the most parts, but still.
It's a shame that GT1 and GT2 (and subsequently GTE) died out, but GT3 still provides all the above to this day, and it's looking stronger than any other previous categories ever. One downside to this is that the series themselves are becoming uniform (the most painful example is DTM), so some thoughts should be given on how to make them unique again.
I don’t necessarily disagree with rules. There’s a limit and obvious preferential interference from one manufacturer to the next. That’s loser shit, nobody cares about that.
I myself personally don’t want to see a GT vehicle that could never be driven on the street. So, low modification for one of the GT divisions is fine.
Like I said, people crave hyper realism in regards to what’s possible in their own life. That causes fire. I thought that was the whole point…for at least one of the classes.
Nah GT rules just straight away copied from Sueprtouring and Super 2000 rules of touring cars, while those 2 sepcs are still way more action packed than GT racing.
@ Who the hell wants to watch cars with 2 liter engines and an Rpm limit. Come on..
@@JohnZornAscended I do, so many people around the world do, hence TCR is still thriving. Way more action and way more leveled playfield. Even GT3 cars are pussies when compared to average touring car contacts, and DTM is not touring car racing at all.
@ Oh ok.
My all time favorite battle with my two favorite GT car brands and on my absolute favorite GT racetrack. Could not have asked for a better video. Have now watched like 5 times and still, I can't get enough.
I was at a press conference with jan. And he told that crash. Hurt like hell
Zealous
@JohnZornAscended lmao. It was so cool
One of the best battles ever. I was lucky enough to drop in on the broadcast live when it happened.
I remember watching this live before I was really even into racing. What a fight
Amazing racing.
The announcer jinxed it at 4:19
Gonna share this with my kids. They weren’t even on the radar yet when this happened.
Jesus what a freaking battle!
I keep coming back to this watching the entirety of it... Absolutely magnificent racing by Magnussen.
Until he cheats by cutting the track and dive bombing into the back of Burmeister… Yeah, fantastic , he deserved to crash.
@ocavant Trying to gain a position on a Porche with the corner speeds at Leguna Seca is a challenge. Magnussen had the straight line speed to overtake on the straight, and he tried on pavement... but the officials told him to yield the position, and he did.. I dont see the problem. He didn't get disqualified for the move.
@@ocavant He attempts to not get ran off the track on more than one occasion, and then gets clearly brake checked at the last turn. You can see from Porsche's suspension weight transferring to the front that bump was provoked. And bumps of this intensity are white flag racing in GT2. That Porsche had no business pulling any of that garbage. Corvette was a better car with a better driver in it the whole way. Both drivers showed some cutthroat approach to trying to win. Bergmeister took dirty to a whole new level.
I go the the Rolex motorsports reunion every year to see all these cars!
An epic battle that crossed the line into unsportsmanlike behavior. They messed up what could've been a down to the wire photo finish.
"They"???
1:51 Look at these cars, Porsche 911, Chevrolet Corvette, Ford GT. Best Era. *_*
specifically 997 and c6. I loves watching this era of imsa and elms. DBR9s, murcielagos, f430s, bmw m3s, the jaguar xkr, v8 vantages. Easily my favourite era of any racing series.
I watched with pleasure every minute. It’s like a movie, great drivers. Sad that ended this way
1st most memorable race people absolutely love Corvette and the GT3
2nd most memorable race in the ages Jordan Cox in his Civic Initial D style
The high beaming by the Vette is straight up devious 😂
just the freaking SOUND of that Vette gosh DANG
Epic imsa battle
I can't believe at this day and age this is not in 2160p especially for such a great race
This is the first video where I could 'feel' the heft of that v8 as you do at the race 🤘🤌👌
Really good resolution on this fight , finally ! Thank you
This was truly an epic battle
I remember this one. I miss those GT days!
One of the best battles in the history of motorsport absolutely ruined at the last second by a sore loser... Shame on him. Awesome battle though
I saw your post before the video and I had a bet with myself that you were rooting for the Vette based on your whinge. 💵
Just curious if you ever thought that maybe he lost his temper bc of the push-to-pass ruined his drive out of the corner
WTF you just not now jack about racing. You can’t bump pass, that’s illegal and is exactly what the vette did on the last turn bc he was too aggressive. Then he try’s to pass, very unsportsmanlike
@@KM-qk1oz attempted murder isnt allowed either, who wouldve guessed
@@qizza7142no, you can’t just ram into someone in front of you because you think you’re a little faster
You can't bump pass people, but you also can't drive people into a wall to crash them out in some sort of vigilante bullshit
9:59 thats such a wild angle, right down to seeing the spoiler break and the far right taillight hanging off...
They have such a thing as "hit to pass". Always a fun event.
So it's not okay for Magnussen to cut into the pit lane to avoid Burgmeister's aggressive driving, but it IS okay for Burgmeister slam Magnussen into the wall so he can't pass, endangering his life and taking him out of the race?
Do you not understand how overtaking works?
@@blackmancer do you not understand how overtaking works? It’s a race and Kevin was clearly driven off the track at least 3 different times before being spun around. Every chance he had at a overtake he got clearly ran off the track.
@@blackmancer do you understand how defending your position works?
@@loganpinner5212 I do understand overtaking. corvette driver was trying to barge his way through, that's not how you overtake. glad to that dickhead smash into the barrier.
@@loganpinner5212 Jan not Kevin

Please upload the battle of the Audi R10 vs the Porsche Spyder in 2007
Fantastic battle, I can accept the bump and squeeze at the flag, defensive driving entertains that kind of a response.
The corvette gave its all and came off worse.
Jmag using the end of the pit lane, hilarious, very illegal, but loads of fun!
Love GT2!
How is using the pit out lane illegal but dumping a guy in the wall a few feet from the finish line legal???
Using the pit is track limits, he tried it, but had give it back.
Race control made him concede.
Defensive driving is one thing, blocking your opponent is extremely controversial.
@@paultruesdale7680 No, there's nothing controversial. Blocking an opponent that's waaay on the opposite side of the track compared to racing line is just straight up against the rules and any common sense. Corvette had him in that corner fair. Porsche literally abandoned any attempt at fair battle, which would be sticking with the racing line and went for a crash consciously and with purpose. There was zero other reasons for it to be in that part of the track. Nada, zero.
Like father like son. The Magnussens race hard.🤣 I would love to see Kevin in Indycar.
For an "old" track, Laguna has had some fabulous 1v1 duels. Bergmeister v Magnussen, Rossi v Stoner, Herta v Zanardi, Marquez v Rossi. Great stuff
That C6 though 🥵 I miss this car so much😊
This and Jordan Cox of Australia in a Honda Civic are one of my favorite battles ever
The Flying Lizard 997 was the car that made IMSA my motorsport competition of choice.
1:50 *Passing that Ford like it's STANDING STILL*
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
banger of a race
esse tipo de briga é tão bom
What a great race, we all know the Corvette won
I miss the gt2 class 😢😢😢😢😢
Get in there
crazy the light difference in the cameras
Really want to see these GT cars make a return, they looked sooo good and sounded mean
We need speed TV back.
Now that's real racing.
you spell wrong bumper cars, real racing is Hakkinen vs Schumacher
It was until the Porsche hooked him.
thats open lobby forza racing lmao, corvette was faster just take the L at that point
Whilst entertaining, I don't consider bumper cars to be real racing, if racing is just down to win-at-all-cost with dirty driving, any Forza veterans could be world champion.
2007 Sebring or 2014 Clipsal 500 are prime examples of real and hard racing, not this.
😂 turned into NASCAR at the last sec
Jan Magnussen, Kevin Magnussen's father ?
correct!
@@WeatherTechRaceway_LagunaSeca nice, i correct 👌🏻
Did someone get a penalty at the end? Who won?
both were disqualified. this would have never happened if the rules were applied equally. magnussen got penalized for cutting the course, but bergmeister didn't get penalized for forcing madnussen off. you're supposed to give room when someone's beside you.
@@royhammel5205 where does it say one is supposed to give "room" when someone is beside you?" I used to race years ago and never heard or had anyone say that.
@@johnjerrehian4642Looks like he was protecting the winner spot. I want to know my damn self.
@@johnjerrehian4642 you dont have to give room per se, but you absolutely know that you can _NOT_ put your opponent into the wall.
@@d0sitmatr Doesn't mean the Chevy couldn't have backed off too. Bottom line, this was a grudge match between the two. The Chevy seemed faster but couldn't get past without a little help, (ie: the bump at the last corner) so the Porsche's response was to drive his line until there was another bump at the end. Fair? I guess so as the judges ruled and the Porsche won. I think hearing from the Chevy driver tells it all: ua-cam.com/video/dKEVkmuziBk/v-deo.html
Correct !!! You bumped me to take me out so hold that right there for me !
Lol, it was a love tap on the last corner. The porche should've carried more speed through the corner but couldn't hang in the straight, so he pulled a rat move. 🫡
When I'm gone by 3 doors down intensifies
I miss speedvision.
Yeah, but at least now we have yet another channel to watch people arguing about what might happen in the next football game. 😐
YES
I would love to see Jan's onboard of this.
So who won? Im still confused
porsche.
Porsche
Please, can someone explain to me. why are those V8 engines sound so satisfying to my human ears? In a few decades, these engines will be extinct, because EVs will take over, so the future generations of kids, who will grow up accustomed to to those EV sounds, will never develop this strange "love affair" with these glorious ICE "symphonies".
They aren’t gonna be instinct in motorsports man. Its a rich mans sport. People with passion are behind the scenes of IMSA and SRO. There will always be combustion engines with motorsports because its tradition
Sure! why not
What year is this race
2009
The Porsches were faster in the corners and the Vettes were faster in a straight line, made for some wonderful racing
Iconic battle but we all know that Vette was stronger then the porsche.
Jezza remixed this fight with Racedriver GRID's OST
I remember watching this as a kid and thinking there’s no way Magnussen survived that.. head on
I have the number board from the door of the Porsche from this race
One of the best battles on U.S. soil😢
He's pissed he lost the rubbing match
Was there a boxing match afterwards? I would liked to have seen that, lol.
If there was Magnussen most likely wasn't involved. He broke his tail bone and a couple ribs from the impact.
@ ouch
If the Vette held his line the Porsche would've spun himself out likely.
Curious to know what people think about Magnussen's use of his high-beams here. It seems dickish at best, and possibly dangerous. Blinding another driver could result in a crash, right?
This battle was epic but this end right there is zero sportsmanship.
give these two a room 😂
Gran tursimo 7 😂❤
Magnussen was locked in. The car was dialed on a needle.
RIP Gil de Ferran
I see Porsche braking more and corvette not accounting for it. I see fair
no he dont cut the track - he goes left from crash
Bravo la Porsche . La Corvette est responsable .
How many Porsche he needs to eat in order to win ? 😂😂😂
Adrian Fernandez always getting his greatest wins obscured by something else more dramatic lol
Vette did it wrong and got punished. All good here.
Typical American driver 😎
Except for the dump on the straight, this is why sports car racing > formulas.
😂😂😂that gt3🔥🔥😈🤣
Ummm, what happened there? Where is the clean racing? I love our cars, the Vette is right there! God Dammit, when it's that close, patience.
Pressure for a mistake, no pass.. no pass. Next track, or next race.
Chills i love prototype but GT always had the best battles, i miss Ferrari always taken people out at le mans lol
What a dirtbag move! Corvette had the pass. Had the better car. But, the dirtbag can't stand being beat. Bergmeister will pay for that.
The Corvette started hitting him from the back to try to get them out of control and what’s the saying? What goes around comes around Porsche always wins don’t forget that ever.😂❤
I say f that dude he got what he deserved for trying to bump him at the last turn. I wouldve done the same thing GJ Bergmeister well deserved victory in GT2
Attempted murder after break checking. Porsche fans ☕️.
Forza didn’t stand a chance after these races 😂
this was such an incredible moment in motorsports history, one of those times where watching these races shows the levels there drivers need to be at to be competitive.
this is also one of the more highly debated races in decades. (for obvious reasons)
many people believe berg did nothing wrong, while many others felt he went too far
personally, I feel berg went to far simply for endangering the health/life of his fellow driver. we can argue semantics all day and never reach a solid conclusion, but in the end that is where I personally draw the line.
cheaters everywhere especially in the high leagues, that's how they made it there, no other way lol
Corvette was a much faster car, props to Bergmeister.. not to mention some clown with highbeams on behind you the whole time. Looks like Berg tried to shut the door at the end but did it too gradually and that was it for the vette. He did bump him before the final straight, though.. all is fair in love and war.
People go back and watch the pass the Porsche was trying to make him run out of room which its no different from the other 50 times he did it except that all the other times there was sand on the other side and this time it was a wall. And he didn't even slam into him the vette hit him what looked like his rear tire hit Porsche rear tire & caused a spin out. And besides if ur stupid enough to keep going like that when someone is pushing u towards the wall & u keep going regardless then thats ur fault. And yes it sucks balls when ur the faster car & cant get past the car in front of you but get over it thats racing. I also think it should be illegal to bright lite people on track I might put someones ass in a wall for that 🤔
The vette had it coming. Sometimes you fuck with the wrong dude the wrong way at the wrong time and you pay the consequences, regardless of who was in the wrong.
uh no the porsche had it coming. ran him off the track multiple times, blocked every pass attempt. the porsche was the slower racer and its obvious based on his defensive driving behavior
Such a great battle gone to waste…
Que malisimo piloto es el del corvette al final cabo su propia tumba, no tuvo la paciencia para lograr un buen rebase en todas esas vueltas y se notaba muy agresivo en su manera de conducir, lastima por el coche.
