- Hello In todays video we take a look at choosing Caravan Steps. I explain some of the different types and why it took us 5 sets of Steps to find the ones for us.
If you would like to know about the latest steps that we purchased please click the link below. Many Thanks Phil.

Yes, I like those steps Phil. Not seen folding ones before..
HI Graham. They do seem solid and well made. I thought I'd splash out with old the UA-cam Dosh. I hope they last. Thanks Phil👍🙂
The steps that came with our van, plastic like your first set are my decorating and washing the roof of the car steps 😁 Thanks for sharing Phil.
Hi Colin. Ah yes the single plastic ones are now for cleaning the roof of our cars too. Thanks for watching. Phil👍🙂
Excellent advise Thank you.
Thanks Steven. Glad it was of use. Thanks for watching Phil.👍🙂
I've got the same step as number 2 (plastic double step) and they've held up fine.
Hello. Our plastic ones were a unbranded and cheap. I suppose you get what you pay for. Thanks Phil🙂👍
We had step 3 but the two steps dented after a while and when it rained we had puddles on each step. We’re on step 2 now for the last 2 years although we have had the heat causing them to go soft on a couple of occasions. Useful video. Cheers Dave & Helen 👍
Hi Dave & Helen. The plastic steps we had were cheap ones and were unbranded. Frankly a waste of money. Thanks for watching. Phil👍🙂
just what i was looking for......but then i read that steps with feet sink into the grass. i am going to buy the ones used by the vloggers 'here we tow' ( seen in their grill evaluation) made by milenco as the base has a bar all around rather than 4 feet.
Hi. I have been using these steps for quite a while. I have not had an issue however I don't pitch on grass. You need to buy what suits your circumstances. If you buy the bar ones may suggest you peg them down as they can slide forward like skis. I hope this helps. Phil. 🙂👍
@@lostweekendscaravan good tip, thank you
We have been through a few sets of steps too, look forward to hearing how you get on with your folding step
Thanks Ann I know they are not cheap but I thought they seemed worth the money. Will update soonest. PS regards to Gary. Phil🙂👍
With a 3 year old we need a double step really but never knew about folding steps! We also have an issue with the first double step being a bit rickety and holding water so might be investing in these steps. Great stuff!
Hi We spent so long looking for a good set of steps and I feel we have found them in these ones. I think they are worth the money but shop around for a bargain. Thanks Phil👍🙂
We’ve had the same step since we started, never been overly happy with it, maybe time to invest. Like the folding step, cheers
Hi Martin As you said "buy cheap buy twice". We bought 4 times. These new ones are pretty solid but light weight and save space. Thanks Phil🙂👍
With our caravan on order I was thinking about a manual pull-out step but as it was going to be mainly used on a seasonal pitch it was hardly worth the effort of sourcing it and having it fitted.
So I am really grateful that you have done all the research for me ... sorry to say the company in your link no longer seem to do the same product ..... so the search goes on. Many thanks
Hi Ian. Thanks for watching. I did the video quite a while ago and sadly some lines stop. I don't know why they have stopped making these steps are they are a great set of steps. Good luck finding some steps. Thanks Phil🙂👍
Hi Phil
I did find a pair on Amazon ...... £100 ???
Not paying that !!
Is there a makes name on them and how much did you pay ?
Ian@@lostweekendscaravan
Hi Ian. I think I paid £50 for them I know they have gone up. This is a link to the cheapest I have found that are available.www.jacksonsofoldarley.co.uk/products/kampa-caravan-folding-double-step
Thanks Phil;
@@lostweekendscaravan this one is not aluminium, but steel
The first set of metal steps you showed, we have had 3 sets, only because they keep breaking and I always get the same set again as a xmas present, think I need to buy a set myself. The fold up one's look good. Thanks for sharing👍Mark
Hi Mark. You can buy the fold up ones in steel or alloy. I would recommend the alloy ones. They will not rust and they are much lighter but just as strong. Thanks Phil🙂👍
We have the MGI Giant Double Step and has never failed
Thanks for watching. Ours were unbranded and quite cheaply made. I like these new ones as they save space. thanks Phil👍🙂
Hi Phil. We're on our 3 set of steps, did away with the plastic ones and opted for the fixed double steps and seem to be holding up quite well so far.
Hi Steve, I think the ones we have had were unbranded and quite badly made. These seem to be quite good and fold up easily. Thanks for watching Phil👍🙂
Hi Phil and Juliet hope you are well, we're on set number 4, first set we had were very narrow I stepped on to them they tipped over twisting my angle, spent the whole holiday hobbling around. Second set the weld broke on three platform, the free set we had with the swift was to low, so we're now on the generic plastic double step which so far seems to be holding up very well.
Best wishes stay safe Jon and Karen
Hi Jon & Karen. I hope you are both well. We spent a lot of time search for these ones. I hope that we will not have to buy another set. Take care. Phil🙂👍
We've just bought step set No3 for when we get caravan, they were cheaper than the plastic ones at £19.95 on E.bay & freedelivery, I suppose time will only tell how long they last time once we start using them, another great informative video Phil
Hi Andrew & Karen. I hope they last a long time. I know the new ones are not cheap but I have been down that road so I invested this time, fingers crossed. Thanks Phil👍🙂
We have a Milenco Giant one, like your 2nd one, it’s huge and no risk of it sinking, however we were gifted it 2nd hand and if it gets too hot in the sun it can bend. I’d be wary of the one you’ve settled on sinking in soft grass, but guess if you’re always on hard standing or using awning it should be fine. Certainly folds very neatly.
Hi David. Our double plastic ones were unbranded and frankly crap. I see your point with sinking but we do use hardstanding pitches mostly. The new ones are very well made and I think will last a long time. Thanks Phil👍🙂
Is there a perfect step? We're on set no. 3 after our 1st season. Maybe manufacturers should do as with motorhomes and fit electric ones. 👏👏
Some continental vans do i think, as well as Airstreams
I agree. It would be nice to have built in ones but I suppose its all about weight? Thanks for watching Phil🙂👍
We’ve still got that crappie step or the box 📦 always thought about upgrading but never done anything, still a curfew on caravan spending at the moment
But I like yours 1st class
The G the Z and I can now dig holes in the garden Rockstar 😂😂
Hi Gav. I hope the spending Curfew is lifted soon. I bought these 😵they were worth the money. So pleased Rockster is now gardening. Can he cut grass😂 Cheers Phil👍🙂
your link above only goes to the steel step which l already have
Hi William the video is a little old now I have sent you a link to some from Amazon Germany. Thats all I could find. Phil🤔
Where is link to no. 5
Hi William this is the only link I can find. The video is quite old now. Cheers Phil amzn.to/3oiGbJv
To me the bottom step looks like it is slightly under the top step creating a narrower step on exit (descent)
Hi Keith you may be right. For us they are better than the previous ones. We will be using them soon so I will see how we get on. Thanks Phil 🙂
PS sell the old ones if they’re still serviceable?
Juliet has taken one set for her shed.👍🙂
