    Thanks for sharing those sticky pads can be a real pain. I have used some fishing line in the past and worked it behind the number plate to slice through, also the wife's hairdryer came in handy don't tell her I used it though !!!😉

    Hi Phil a little tip to share to soften adhesive on number plates. Spray WD40 behind the number plate using the straw. Then a length of fishing line can be used in a sawing motion to cut through the adhesive pads, then clean as you demonstrated. Good point about drilling the panel. 👍

    Great video Phil, we had the same problem when swapping plates from the old caravan to the new one, it surprising how well the double sided tape sticks.
    Best wishes stay safe Jon and Karen

    So I’ve done exactly what you did 3 times after I changed my car. In each case the plate fell off some weeks later, always when it was parked up, either at home or on site. Every time the pads are on the ‘van and the back of the plate is completely clean! Found it had fallen off this morning. In. A bit of a mood I just jammed it back on again. I didn’t fall off, and it stayed there with quite a strong tug. What IS going on?

      Hi Phillip. So far ours has stayed. Fingers crossed yours does the same. Yes making sure its clean first does help. Heat can be an issue if the plate is in direct sun light this can heat up and loosen the glue on the tape. Thanks Phil👍🙂

    Hi Phil
    Mine was the same, stuck solid. I just used brute force to pull it off 😂 As I've changed the tow car and had a new tow bar fitted, they also do number plates so had one made

    Hi Phil, great video. Where did you purchase your aluminium plates from? I’ve always had acrylic but find they tend to fade quite quickly. Do the aluminium ones last a bit longer?

      Hi Steve & Jayne. I bought the Number Plate from Halfords £16.00. I have had Audi's over the years and they tended to have aluminium back plates and they never faded. I am hoping this will be the same. Hope this helps. Phil.👍🙂

    If you have got the plastic car trim removing tools they make short work of removing the number plate without damaging the van.

      Hello thats a great idea, I used brute force as the double sided type was really strong. Thanks Phil. 🙂👍

    👍 (Number of pads used seemed a little excessive? Halford plate pads are 4 with it never coming off)

    • @lostweekendscaravan
      @lostweekendscaravan  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Gary. Yes it did seem like Belts & Braces but I thought the pads were a little thin. Thats why I used them all. Thanks for watching. Phil🙂👍

    The method that I have used in the past to remove a stuck on number plate. Feed a length of dental floss behind the plate then use a sawing motion to break the bond of each pad. Hope this helps somebody.

    There's no need to remove the old plate, just stick the new one over it, I've got three plates on my caravan at the moment

      Hello you could do that but if you are stopped by the Police and spot this they may think you have something to hide. Thanks Phil🙂
