That handbag is known for the cracking that occurs at the corners where the chain strap feeds through. Firstly it is a terrible design because no matter how careful you are, there will be rubbing due to the weight of the contents. Romina Rose May did a video with this exact problem and has been dealing with Chanel. Her bag is a purple leather with the shiny coating and it has chipped off badly. So when Chanel tell you they have now heard of this problem, they are outright liars.

So sad for your issues. Super Dacob and Romina Rose May have had issues since day ONE with peeling leather, which to me, was a red flag already. Glad you're sharing your experience and being truthful about the issues. In all honesty, a LOT of people have been complaining about Chanel's quality issues recently. I don't think you should keep the bag if you are going to have to worry about the same issue's occurring again. It is not worth it, and for the price, there are so many other brands that do bags for "cheaper" but better quality. As for the Dior Book Tote, they have had bad batches of glue for the bags, I had an issue with mine, and they gave me store credit for the bag (within 5 years of purchase only).
I dont like the mini Chanel 22 , please return it or exchange it for something else more classy. It's $5000 way too much for a bag that doesn't close T-T
I watched several videos where this peeling issue happened in a few weeks. Some UA-camrs wondered if it was even leather or a thin layer of leather over something else. Their prices are insane for the quality. I would not keep that. It doesn’t look worth $5000 at all. The mini looks like a makeup bag. Hopefully they will take care of the black one.
I bought the 22 in pink. My first Chanel bag. And then I started seeing videos about that issue. My bag started to show the same wear. My SA said she had never heard or seen that problem on the 22. Then I saw Amy’s video and she returned hers. She and I live in the same city. So I returned my bag the same day as Amy. I told the manager I saw her video and I know they took back her bag so they could not say no one had this problem. She looked surprised and then The manager gave me a store credit. I ended up buying two WOCs with my credit. One black and one pink. I hope I made the right decision. I loved the 22 but I guess it’s just a poor design. It needs grommets or something

It’s pretty unbelievable that nobody has told them that the Chanel 22 has that issue. It’s definitely a design problem. They should’ve put a grommet so the chain doesn’t rub against the leather opening. But honestly, in case you get upset or disappointed, you need to set your expectations on the outcome. What do you want them to do? Refund? Store credit? Will you be mad if they do nothing for you at all? 3. The mini size - My opinion, don’t keep it. It doesn’t even have a closure! And if you try to cinch it, it will start to rub the leather off like the size Small. It’s super cute, but not worth it for $5k and not very useful without closure.

You’re not Alone Charis with this issue. I don’t own a 22 myself, but I have watched a few videos of people showing this damage and also the leather on the strap cracking and peeling. I don’t understand Chanel coating their bags with something that peels off. I also follow Super Dacob and his 22 did the same thing after one short use!! I’m writing this part a day later,… I watched super Jacobs video after I watched yours and I should apologize because I don’t think super Jacob was overly flattering to your position on the whole thing. Hi Charis! Sorry this happened to your bag😢 Chanel definitely knows this issue, many youtubers who bought this bag have the same issue. There is one youtuber (sorry forgot her name😅) who inserted something to prevent the chain from rubbing the leather. It really helped! Her bag had no issues at all. Oh i hope someone who’s also seen her video can inform you too.
I use the HIDUPZ as a work bag and have had no issues. It's a comfortable bag, has lots of room, and doesn't lose its shape. That being said, I also take care of all my bags and don't carry water bottles, pens, keys, or anything that could damage the interior.
I am probably one of the very few people who owns a 22 bag and have been wearing it without any issues. The bag has been with me since Aug 2022 (22b collection in Black size Medium) and I have used the bag in rain and throwing on the floor at home. It is my most used bag in 2022 and 2023 Q1. I think the whether may play a big factor for it as well. I am in Nor Cal where the whether is mostly shinny and low humidity. Michele Wang (themichelewang) in Las Vegas also has a beige one and she reports no issues as well. Sorry for the issues you have and hope the Chanel SA can do something about it. I still love my LV reverse monogram *preluxz* clutch! It's versatile, fits a variety of items, and is definitely a workhorse! I think seeing it everywhere (like the LV speedy) is proof that it's already a classic.

I am probably stating the obvious here, Charis. But LV would never say that. They would’ve probably offered to ship them out for assessment. Chanel’s cust svc is sooo poor! My mom’s LV Montaigne, they replaced the whole bag, REPLACED THE WHOLE BAG when there was an issue about the color transfer and leather chipping out. Then here comes my mom’s Chanel jumbo she bought from the 90’s. Chanel took them in but it took MONTHS! Not like we want to replace it with a brand new one because as we all know, Chanel 200010s quality has gone down. She got the one from 1993- very pristine! 24 k gold hardware and all that! I can still remember when I was a little boy and we bought it in the Chanel store. It’s sad to see how Chanel slowly having these issues amidst their price increase.

The classic flap you already have in similar colour looks so much nicer and elevated than the mini pouch bag that doesn’t close and has a rope strap. Good luck with getting the black bag repaired or returned. If you love it maybe you can attach something to protect any more damage. Let us know what happens. 🤞
I have the Chanel 22 in black. Knowing this is a design flaw and this issue will eventually happen. I diy a method to reinforce the interior to prevent the chain from rubbing against the leather. So far it has been working.
The same thing happened to my bag. I took it back to the Chanel store and they refused to fix or return it. They told me that is the normal wear and tear of a bag. I have only used it 3 times. It now sits in my closet. I am not happy at all with this bag at all.
That’s SO frustrating!! 😢 They obviously know that it’s not normal wear and tear, but I guess they’ve made a business decision about not taking responsibility. How is anyone supposed to have any confidence in the brand at this point? Ultimately it devalues Chanel overall in my opinion.
She could have placed order months before she could finally get one. Knowing Charis, she’s not the type to use tote that much so it’s convincing she just found out recently.
I purchased the caramel brown one hoping I wouldn't have that issue but when I received it already had issues with the leather and I had to return it. Then Chanel had the nerve to increase the price by $600 the next day...I didn't even know. Anywho no love lost.

You've already answered your question. If you have concerns about this $5000 Chanel 22 mini bag, it's best not to keep it and return within the period stated in Chanel Return Policy. It seems there are unresolved design/material problems and it would be unwise to repeat what you have encountered with the large size Chanel 22 bag. Thanks for sharing.
I had the same issue last year, the store manager said because the wear & tear and i cannot accept it. They refuse to accept return or exchange. The manager asked me to just use it 😂 haihh
hi charis! i'm a subbie! i like watching your videos. just want to say if you have the problem with the big bag, dont keep the small one. if you cinch the leather on the small one constantly, it will crack on the exterior not just peel on the inside. it's a much bigger problem than the one hiding in your bigger bag...just a friendly advice. honestly, it's kinda disappointing coz i believe what you say that you are not using the bag that much coz you have a lot of bags which we all know and that you could constantly rotate your bags. i hope your issues with chanel gets resolve somehow... but that bag is really notorious for a lot of issues.

So sorry it happen to you with your Chanel bag. I have issue with my GUCCI tote use twice in less than a year peeling off the side bottom. I went to Chicago branch they took it back and replace the bag i choose and pay the difference. I won’t buy Channel that kind if that happen to me or never buy Chanel. I hope they do the right thing for their customers and make the integral modifications to this design. Although I find the mini size and color very tempting, I recommend a hard pass on this one. The brand has to learn that they cannot survive on their name alone; they must continue to provide quality. Unfortunately, the only way to command change in this arena is a drop in consumerism. I see you do not like to speak negatively of anyone (which is great!) but your honesty saves so many of us from making disappointing expensive purchases. Dear Charis. Unfortunately, the issue with severe wear and tear on your black 22 bag is due to the design of the bag. If a metal chain rubs against raw leather than obviously it will scratch and wear out the leather surface quickly especially if you are carrying a lot of items. That's something Chanel should have tested/checked with quality control BEFORE this new design was issued! The edges where the chain comes out should reinforced with metal gromits to protect the leather. I think you should mention that to your SA. As for the mini bag, if you will only use the bag crossbody then you won't get the same problem. Lovely little bag...but is it worth it with the current huge prices but poorer quality? Hmmmm! Some may say Chanel are making fun of us!!!
From my view, if you are buying something worth $5k, you should LOVE it! Sounds like there are multiple things you don’t love about it and you’d be nervous about the damage also occurring on the mini, so it’s a clear choice for me that you should return it (and also not buy the black mini with pearls because besides liking the look of the pearls, those other issues will not go away). Personally it’s not my style, but even if it’s yours, I don’t think you’re going to love it 🤷🏻♀️
Hi Charis. I saw a UA-cam video, a person who bought this Chanel 22 hobo, she slide small tubes inside to protect the leather from rubbing directly from the chain. These tubes were made for Chanel 22. The size is fit into it.

It’s weird that they didn’t make all of those minis with the pearl chain because it seems like everybody wants that one with the pearls. It makes it seem like somethings missing off the bag knowing that there’s the pearl one out there.
Hi Charis. I also have the 22 but in medium. So far mine is fine but I have only used it like 3-4 times for brief lunch outing. I am scared to use my bag more due to other videos I’ve seen. I purchased in June 2022. I personally would not buy the mini until you have a solution for your bag. Maybe just wait and see how Chanel handles your problem first and if the outcome is good, then wait for the mini black w Pearl chain.😊please us updated on it!
The Chanel 22 can only be worn for 22 minutes before the peeling and wear happens. It is a total design flaw by Chanel in addition to Chanel using poor quality leather.
Romina rosemay & Dacob have the same issues with theirs as well a year ago. Dacob returned it & got a refund. Romina wasn't so lucky unfortunately. Well known issues with Chanel 22 bag & bad customer service. Unsure why you even bought the mini size after your black one has cracking issue? 🤔 i’d return it if I were you.
Chairs, As most of the commenters confirm, your issue with the Chanel 22 IS A DESIGN FLAW! Shame on Chanel SA’s and likely the brand to deny this. There actually should be a “recall” on this bag. I did see Kat L’s video where she gives the reviews the 22, gives pros and cons, and also leaves a link to purchase a plastic insert for the bag casing opening for the leather strap traps. Unfortunately, when I looked at it recently it was only in Asian script, so I can’t read it, but perhaps you can contact her directly for more info. I appreciate your sharing this with your viewers! Charis, I don't know if you know this, but @ArissaHa did a video on small plastic inserts you can buy or make that will prevent this peeling where the chain rubs from happening. Since your bag is still under the 5-year warranty, it might be best to get it replaced or repaired. Then get or make the inserts for your new one to keep it protected from damaging again. It's a shame we have to do this with such expensive bags, but Chanel is not known for it's quality....

I hope Chanel will give you a fair resolution to the problem. As for your new Mini Chanel 22, it would bother me that it can’t be closed securely. I don’t know which channel but I heard the same issue with this bag before I saw it on your channel. I just thought maybe Charis got the better one but now certainly it’s Chanel’s quality getting worse.
I would return the mini channel, the bag looks cute but being almost the same price as the bigger version is not worth it. Also it doesn’t have the magnetic close button.

I refuse to buy Chanel products at all. Leather goods are inferior and who knows what they are pumping quality wise in skincare. Return that small bag asap.

2. It’s pretty unbelievable that nobody has told them that the Chanel 22 has that issue. It’s definitely a design problem. They should’ve put a grommet so the chain doesn’t rub against the leather opening. But honestly, in case you get upset or disappointed, you need to set your expectations on the outcome. What do you want them to do? Refund? Store credit? Will you be mad if they do nothing for you at all?
3. The mini size - My opinion, don’t keep it. It doesn’t even have a closure! And if you try to cinch it, it will start to rub the leather off like the size Small. It’s super cute, but not worth it for $5k and not very useful without closure.

They are employing subterfuge by saying “I’ve never seen it” instead of “I’ve never heard that before.” I personally have never seen it but I have heard several influencers on social media saying that they have had issues with their 22 Bags and other Chanel handbags tearing and peeling. You’re not Alone Charis with this issue. I don’t own a 22 myself, but I have watched a few videos of people showing this damage and also the leather on the strap cracking and peeling. I don’t understand Chanel coating their bags with something that peels off. I also follow Super Dacob and his 22 did the same thing after one short use!!

Hi Charis! Sorry this happened to your bag😢 Chanel definitely knows this issue, many youtubers who bought this bag have the same issue. There is one youtuber (sorry forgot her name😅) who inserted something to prevent the chain from rubbing the leather. It really helped! Her bag had no issues at all. Oh i hope someone who’s also seen her video can inform you too.

I use the HIDUPZ as a work bag and have had no issues. It's a comfortable bag, has lots of room, and doesn't lose its shape. That being said, I also take care of all my bags and don't carry water bottles, pens, keys, or anything that could damage the interior.
The variety of textures in the *amzrepe* pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
I am probably one of the very few people who owns a 22 bag and have been wearing it without any issues. The bag has been with me since Aug 2022 (22b collection in Black size Medium) and I have used the bag in rain and throwing on the floor at home. It is my most used bag in 2022 and 2023 Q1. I think the whether may play a big factor for it as well. I am in Nor Cal where the whether is mostly shinny and low humidity. Michele Wang (themichelewang) in Las Vegas also has a beige one and she reports no issues as well. Sorry for the issues you have and hope the Chanel SA can do something about it. I am probably stating the obvious here, Charis. But LV would never say that. They would’ve probably offered to ship them out for assessment. Chanel’s cust svc is sooo poor! My mom’s LV Montaigne, they replaced the whole bag, REPLACED THE WHOLE BAG when there was an issue about the color transfer and leather chipping out. Then here comes my mom’s Chanel jumbo she bought from the 90’s. Chanel took them in but it took MONTHS! Not like we want to replace it with a brand new one because as we all know, Chanel 200010s quality has gone down. She got the one from 1993- very pristine! 24 k gold hardware and all that! I can still remember when I was a little boy and we bought it in the Chanel store. It’s sad to see how Chanel slowly having these issues amidst their price increase.

The classic flap you already have in similar colour looks so much nicer and elevated than the mini pouch bag that doesn’t close and has a rope strap. Good luck with getting the black bag repaired or returned. If you love it maybe you can attach something to protect any more damage. Let us know what happens. 🤞

I have the Chanel 22 in black. Knowing this is a design flaw and this issue will eventually happen. I diy a method to reinforce the interior to prevent the chain from rubbing against the leather. So far it has been working.
Since you mentioned this, I will suggest you watch @arissa ha video where she did a DIY video of a protector for the corners 😊
The same thing happened to my bag. I took it back to the Chanel store and they refused to fix or return it. They told me that is the normal wear and tear of a bag. I have only used it 3 times. It now sits in my closet. I am not happy at all with this bag at all.
That’s SO frustrating!! 😢 They obviously know that it’s not normal wear and tear, but I guess they’ve made a business decision about not taking responsibility. How is anyone supposed to have any confidence in the brand at this point? Ultimately it devalues Chanel overall in my opinion.

I purchased the caramel brown one hoping I wouldn't have that issue but when I received it already had issues with the leather and I had to return it. Then Chanel had the nerve to increase the price by $600 the next day...I didn't even know. Anywho no love lost.

It seems there are unresolved design/material problems and it would be unwise to repeat what you have encountered with the large size Chanel 22 bag. Thanks for sharing.

I had the same issue last year, the store manager said because the wear & tear and i cannot accept it. They refuse to accept return or exchange. The manager asked me to just use it 😂 haihh
hi charis! i'm a subbie! i like watching your videos. just want to say if you have the problem with the big bag, dont keep the small one. if you cinch the leather on the small one constantly, it will crack on the exterior not just peel on the inside. it's a much bigger problem than the one hiding in your bigger bag...just a friendly advice. honestly, it's kinda disappointing coz i believe what you say that you are not using the bag that much coz you have a lot of bags which we all know and that you could constantly rotate your bags. i hope your issues with chanel gets resolve somehow... but that bag is really notorious for a lot of issues.

So sorry it happen to you with your Chanel bag. I have issue with my GUCCI tote use twice in less than a year peeling off the side bottom. I went to Chicago branch they took it back and replace the bag i choose and pay the difference. I won’t buy Channel that kind if that happen to me or never buy Chanel. I'm so sorry that you've had such a disappointing experience with your Chanel 22.😥 I remember your video when you were contemplating the large relaxed style and black color which are not your typical style. I hope they do the right thing for their customers and make the integral modifications to this design. Although I find the mini size and color very tempting, I recommend a hard pass on this one. The brand has to learn that they cannot survive on their name alone; they must continue to provide quality. Unfortunately, the only way to command change in this arena is a drop in consumerism. I see you do not like to speak negatively of anyone (which is great!) but your honesty saves so many of us from making disappointing expensive purchases. Understand that it works both ways, you promote products that you love and if there is an issue with them your channel would want to know. Thank you for posting this video!!! Dear Charis. Unfortunately, the issue with severe wear and tear on your black 22 bag is due to the design of the bag. If a metal chain rubs against raw leather than obviously it will scratch and wear out the leather surface quickly especially if you are carrying a lot of items. That's something Chanel should have tested/checked with quality control BEFORE this new design was issued! The edges where the chain comes out should reinforced with metal gromits to protect the leather. I think you should mention that to your SA. As for the mini bag, if you will only use the bag crossbody then you won't get the same problem. Lovely little bag...but is it worth it with the current huge prices but poorer quality? Hmmmm! Some may say Chanel are making fun of us!!!
From my view, if you are buying something worth $5k, you should LOVE it! Sounds like there are multiple things you don’t love about it and you’d be nervous about the damage also occurring on the mini, so it’s a clear choice for me that you should return it (and also not buy the black mini with pearls because besides liking the look of the pearls, those other issues will not go away). Personally it’s not my style, but even if it’s yours, I don’t think you’re going to love it 🤷🏻♀️

Hi Charis. I saw a UA-cam video, a person who bought this Chanel 22 hobo, she slide small tubes inside to protect the leather from rubbing directly from the chain. These tubes were made for Chanel 22. The size is fit into it.

It’s weird that they didn’t make all of those minis with the pearl chain because it seems like everybody wants that one with the pearls. It makes it seem like somethings missing off the bag knowing that there’s the pearl one out there.

I purchased in June 2022. I personally would not buy the mini until you have a solution for your bag. Maybe just wait and see how Chanel handles your problem first and if the outcome is good, then wait for the mini black w Pearl chain.😊please us updated on it!
The Chanel 22 can only be worn for 22 minutes before the peeling and wear happens. It is a total design flaw by Chanel in addition to Chanel using poor quality leather.
I have the same experience as the strap (leather peel off) of my red Chanel mini square , I saw it when the first time i was using😤
Romina rosemay & Dacob have the same issues with theirs as well a year ago. Dacob returned it & got a refund. Romina wasn't so lucky unfortunately. Well known issues with Chanel 22 bag & bad customer service.

Chairs, As most of the commenters confirm, your issue with the Chanel 22 IS A DESIGN FLAW! Shame on Chanel SA’s and likely the brand to deny this. There actually should be a “recall” on this bag. I did see Kat L’s video where she gives the reviews the 22, gives pros and cons, and also leaves a link to purchase a plastic insert for the bag casing opening for the leather strap traps. Unfortunately, when I looked at it recently it was only in Asian script, so I can’t read it, but perhaps you can contact her directly for more info. I appreciate your sharing this with your viewers! Charis, I don't know if you know this, but @ArissaHa did a video on small plastic inserts you can buy or make that will prevent this peeling where the chain rubs from happening. Since your bag is still under the 5-year warranty, it might be best to get it replaced or repaired. Then get or make the inserts for your new one to keep it protected from damaging again. It's a shame we have to do this with such expensive bags, but Chanel is not known for it's quality....

I don’t know which channel but I heard the same issue with this bag before I saw it on your channel. I just thought maybe Charis got the better one but now certainly it’s Chanel’s quality getting worse.
I would return the mini channel, the bag looks cute but being almost the same price as the bigger version is not worth it. Also it doesn’t have the magnetic close button.
