GBatT actually people have measured the craptacularity of locks using the length of LPL's video for quite a while already and it's pretty rarely inaccurate. 🔐
I like these videos on kinda low-end locks. Aside from pen testers and people parcticing locksport, these are the the kinds of locks most people will buy, because they're affordable and "look tough" in a photo. Basically, an attack is the only way to review a product designed to withstand attacks.
Thank you this is helpful. There are 2 abandoned bicycles next to my house that are locked with 2 of these via velos. they have been there at least 4 months, are in terrible shape. I’ve reported to my city twice, asking for their removal, I get no response. So now I’m looking forward to a different removal approach 😂
I've been using this lock for 2 and a half years in Boston, so far it's been enough of a deterrent that no one's tried to steal the bike. Something went wrong in the core last week and I had to get a new one, but I prefer this over the last Abus ultra 410 I tried.
it is a junk lock. A $20 allow quality lock sold for way more. Claims to be 15mm thick but is 12mm. Pop it with a medium bolt cutter in 10 seconds, cheap cordless angle grinder will go through it like butter
Could you do a video on gutting or machining open a slider lock and also a disc lock to show us how they work and how the picks work to open them? There seems to be no videos on this subject.
Holy shit LPL u have gained so many subs since i last checked in on some lock picking videos. im glad to see all your hard work is paying off you are one of my favorite pickers.
For my current location, this is good enough. When I move to big cities like New York city, then will go for the kryptonite u lock or just carry the bike into the store.
passerby184 when I was in college, I worked at an auto parts store. One night, while cleaning up, I found an empty package for a locking gas cap. Whoever stole it forgot to take the keys. I hope he put it on his car.
It seems like these low-cost slider locks are becoming very common and are not held to particularly tight tolerances. I feel like there is an opportunity here to develop some kind of slider raking tool which would be able to open these types of locks very quickly.
Love watching the locks picked! I’d like to see a move style set up pick. Have a time limit and some kind of door lock that is blocking the escape route.
Why do you just pick padlocks and variances thereof? Why not a door lock? I just spent nearly $500 replacing my door locks after kicking out a roommate. I'd like to know if it was a wise investment. They are electronically-controlled, but do have a keyhole. They are Schlage FE 595.
@@forced2makethisbloodyaccou355 I’d say this totally depends on the implementation. Though most seem to be so bad that you are better of building your own. For example a Raspberry Pi with a key-only SSH login and all other ports closed should be very secure.
The cable isn'r meant to secure the bike. You're supposed to use the U-lock through the frame and rear wheel and secure it to a bike stand or pole. The cable is to secure the front wheel only.
Actually looking at one right now. Considering it's in a town of around 3,000 in a bedroom community to the big city in Kansas that isn't on I-70, I doubt the kids are roaming around prepared to pick a dual sidebar lock, carrying battery powered angle grinders, or torches or other destructive tools. The fact it can be opened with a tension wrench and a thin hook gives me hope for that day my son loses the key. It comes with a code tag, which I guess you could use to get another key, but at this price point why bother. Definitely going to go with a disc detainer lock of higher quality when I get off my crippled hind end and start riding my bike again which is a 6061 Al 24" cruiser class dirt racer. I have seen what comparable bikes sell for, and it's not trivial.
Also, mine seems to have more heft. The plastic is for sure molded around the lock body, but looks a little more substantial than yours. The U section is the same, but the lock body has considerable weight. Some of it is definitely made of cast Chinesium alloy and a sledge might do it in but it will keep honest people honest for now.
I was looking up proper ways too lock your bike because I recently had one stolen from me and this video comes up. I just bought a expensive e bike and now I'm paranoid.
Honestly it is more about courtesy that "look I have my bike locked please don't steal it Mr or Mrs or they/them" If someone really wants to steal it they will do it one way or the another. I mean lets say you might go out cycling on a routine to a place and someone can track you and see what time you come, how long is your bike on standby and study the perfect opportunity to get the gold. Unless it is police registering of your cycle or a strong moral community that watch outs on suspicious folks who pick cycles one is really helpless all by themselves. Honestly people should be rewarded monetarily if they notice and take actions against people who are very evidently out in the open in a public space stealing a bike. That way one can ensure a strong community safety net. .

Not bad for the price I guess. I have a 400 dollar bike and I genuinely don't think anyone would go through the effort of picking this to get to it. I just wanna make sure that they can't just bolt-cutter their way through a cable.

"Dapper savagery" that's exactly the term for it. I love it
I have a question. Assuming this lock costs $27 right now, if you secured a $26 bike with it, would the thief take the bike or the lock?
A $26 bike is still a bike. This lock just makes your bike harder to pedal up a hill.
What's the point of stealing a lock without its key?
