Have a pair. You can't go past upgrading them (or any hearing pro you own from other brands) with gel ear cups. Most of the time we are shooting with eye pro too and the gel helps keep the essential seal around your head tight!
I recently purchased a Sordin Pro-X LED and love them. Found a Pro-X SFA on sale that has superior noise reduction and was only $10.00 extra so bought them too.
Excellent review. I use Otto Noise Barrier Micro's (in ear) with Comply foam buds (bought separately) for shotgun as the over the ear Sordins hit the gun stock when I mount the gun to my shoulder and cheek. I use the MSA Sordin Supreme X Pro when firing my 9mm handgun, or just standing around while others shoot handgun or rifle, as I feel I get a little more protection with the over the ear. I love them both and their ability to clearly amplify the "speaking voice" while dampening the gun blast is amazing. Yes, both are expensive, but you only have one set of ears and tinnitus sucks. It really sucks. Ask anyone with permanent ringing in their ears how much they like that. Or, how much your spouse likes having to yell at you to get your attention (ok, maybe that's an advantage). These two are absolutely worth it. Protect your hearing with the best equipment. Trust me...as you get older you will be very, very glad you did. Signed, A shooter and a doctor.
Military arms channel had a pair of the Sordin's and the had a problem and sent them back and after he got them back he had more problems. He said they are not worth the money. Right now he has been running the new Peltor's and said so far they are real good and said he would do a review after he had them for a while.
The commercially produced Sordins are using outsourced components (likely from China) that's most likely why he had issues. If you do get Sordins, you have to get the surplus ones which are 100% made in the USA (due to berry amendment). Ironically, the mil surplus ones are way cheaper than the commercial new ones. They are harder to find these days though because more people are scooping them up whenever they hit the market.
i like watching your videos just the other day i was thinking of buying a new pair of ears. im thinking of get me a pair of sordin supreme pro X trying them out.. thanks agian keep on make videos God Bless Brotha...
I have a pair of MSA Sordin Pro X, I totally agree with your review. I purchased them online at Lamnia.com from Finland. Best price I could find. Love all of your videos. Thanks!
I just got mine from Lamnia because everyone else is selling them for $400+ or $280 with 2 - 3 week shipping. Got mine plus the earcups for $260 USD and 2-day shipping from fucking FINLAND.
So who sells these in the United States. The link you gave on amazon is out and they are saying they don't know when they will be available. I would be interested in the neck band and head strap muffs.
I would love to try these with my hardhat. I have the Howard Leight and they're uncomfortable as all hell, and the safety guys get on me for having something 'under my hat'.
Do you get a constant, subtle noise? I contacted sordin directly and they said its the electronics being on that im hearing. This is my third pair, all sound the same and have that subtle noise in a completely quiet environment.
John is totally strapped in now - from head to foot. How does that feel-still comfortable with all your tools like gun, knife, flashlight, oc spray, belt, holster (s), emergency kit and perhaps many other surprises?
Agree, but the battery installation and removal is a 100% pain in the butt John. Would you be so kind to elaborate more about the NR? 18 or 19 seems rather law compare to other less expensive models.
How do they fair on noise reduction with mounted weapons (249, 240, 50 cal, mk19, ect)? Been lookin on gettin something I could fit under my helmet that could protect my already bad hearing from gettin any worse. Idk anything about which hearing protection is best. Ive always just used the pine tree style earplugs with the tabs you can open on the bottom. But now I'm wanting and needing to upgrade my protection.
If you remove the top strap, does it comprise the stability of the headset? You mention it’s possible to wear it without the top strap, but will it cause the headset to wear looser and have play?
Stephen yeah especially in confined areas where the gunshot will damage your ears more. Definitely worth the money and the 5 seconds it takes to put on to save your hearing
Right now my home defense and EDC handguns are a Ruger LC9 and a Ruger LCR .38 special. If I am able to purchase a .357 Magnum sometime I would want these.
Maybe the company will donate a pair for your runner up prize for reaching 500k subscribers, otherwise I'll be sticking with my cheap but reliable Walker Razors... Thanks for your work and God bless!
Great timing my wife and I were literally just talking about this when I got the notice of this video thanks John! Now I need to get her to let me spend more $$ .. smuchty? Is that a word? Did I spell it right :/
Hey John, great work. So in just speculating here, but do you use UA-cam as a method of living? I don't see how your main channel could really give you any or much money from all the work you do, considering it is regularly pretty violent, which I believe is against UA-cam guidelines , or at least not going to get monitized. I that because I hardly ever see ads on your main videos. So my question is are you trying to get this channel to possibly be another form of income? If so, that excites me because I enjoy your work and would love to see more on this channel. If not, I will still enjoy the videos posted here. Either way, I hope you have a great day and thanks for all the work you do for our viewer experience.
Yes and no. There is SOME money over there, but one of my motives in starting this channel is as a revenue stream. It also keeps the main channel on focus.
Active Self Protection Extra that's what I was thinking. Glad to hear so and wish you the best! I will happily follow and share this channel like I do with your main channel. Thank you John, have a nice night.
This new channel is the shit!!!!!! 2 channels pumping out useful and life saving information, with no bullshit .. Thank you for all you do

Gel cups are SO GOOD.

JUST bought these off Amazon yesterday, coming tomorrow! Even more excited now :D
OH I mite as well say also that ASP has helped me be so much more aware of my surroundings. Thanks keep doing the great work .

MAC is a super fudd lol
MSA are Awesome, had mine for 4 years and still going great 👍🏻
Love mine!
I would like to see your bloopers for ASP. Especially now that you have ASP extra .
i like watching your videos just the other day i was thinking of buying a new pair of ears. im thinking of get me a pair of sordin supreme pro X trying them out.. thanks agian keep on make videos God Bless Brotha...
Awesome thanks for so many uplands John
Can you make an update video on your EDC
Yeah I will. Probably be next week.
I like your walls, John. Reminds me of the checkerboard lodge floor.
I’m sending these to my grandpa in Ukraine. Do you think these are good for hearing protection? My biggest concern is artillery noise. Great review!
They're top notch.
I have a pair of MSA Sordin Pro X, I totally agree with your review. I purchased them online at Lamnia.com from Finland. Best price I could find. Love all of your videos. Thanks!
Got mine at Lamnia too for the same reason
I know this comment is 2 years old, but thank you for mentioning Lamnia. Got mine for 196.00 shipped (07/14/20)

Without the top head strap on, do they stay on securely enough on your head and not fit too loose?
Would love to see you review your holster.
I would love to try these with my hardhat. I have the Howard Leight and they're uncomfortable as all hell, and the safety guys get on me for having something 'under my hat'.
Good info! Thanks John 👊 Ron, Littlewierdshop
Do you get a constant, subtle noise? I contacted sordin directly and they said its the electronics being on that im hearing. This is my third pair, all sound the same and have that subtle noise in a completely quiet environment.
Huh, I have never experienced that.
How are these with the neck steal for people with smaller heads?
Work good.
John is totally strapped in now - from head to foot. How does that feel-still comfortable with all your tools like gun, knife, flashlight, oc spray, belt, holster (s), emergency kit and perhaps many other surprises?
Doesn't bother me a bit.
Thank You. Good review.

Would you be so kind to elaborate more about the NR? 18 or 19 seems rather law compare to other less expensive models.
Total, 100% PITB to change the batteries. Yes and amen.
get-asp.com/iwok for the NRR
Much thinner than the Howard impact sports! I bet they provide much better check weld on rifles
Much.

What did you ever decide? Im in this boat now.
How are they w eye protection?
Do the smoosh your temples?
Very low pressure. I love them on the range.
any problems to report?
My Sordin is doing something weird, is noise cancelling voices :l
I’m on my second set over about 2 years. First ones eat batteries now. Second ones are good to go.
If you remove the top strap, does it comprise the stability of the headset? You mention it’s possible to wear it without the top strap, but will it cause the headset to wear looser and have play?
It's fine without the strap.
Could you get these on in time to use them during a home invasion if they were still trying to break through the door.
Stephen they only take about 5 seconds to put on and turn on so I'd say yes
Thanks for your response. They could save one's hearing.

10:4! Thanks.
interesting...Im a Peltor guy myself, but neat review.
I like Peltors, but I lurve my Sordins. :)
I love comfortable peltor earmuffs ...
Can you exchange HeadBand with Neckband (Backstrap)?
I would imagine so, though I have never seen a set with interchangeable headpieces.
Here goes a silly question. Why all gun people use hats with velcroed patches?
That’s a good question.
Varusteleka has them for 220 and the shipping is 10. Aslo they have the gel cups on em.
Nice! Great price.
Maybe the company will donate a pair for your runner up prize for reaching 500k subscribers, otherwise I'll be sticking with my cheap but reliable Walker Razors... Thanks for your work and God bless!
How comfortable are these with a cowboy hat?
Hmmm not sure they’d clear the brim.
@@ASPextra Mind testing it for us? 😁
Does the audio input jack allow for stereo audio?
I’ve never tried it. That’s a good question!
Make sure you film the bonanza and post it too John
I will have a professional camera operator following me around...we gon get some FOOTAGE!
Currently in AZ, where you operate out of sir
I am in Phoenix.
Thank you
Great timing my wife and I were literally just talking about this when I got the notice of this video thanks John! Now I need to get her to let me spend more $$ .. smuchty? Is that a word? Did I spell it right :/
Wendy And Matthew with two Os I believe. Smoochies :)
Tyler Wilbanks haha right on ty man
Nice!
Do you use Apple AirPods during the making of your videos? See you with them on sometimes.
Yeah I use them as my microphone.

Yeah but people say you need gel cups cause they hard against the ears.
I absolutely think that the gel cups are key.
@@ASPextra does this company have gel cups to order for this set?
Oh yes. The Sordins can be ordered with gel cups installed.
@@ASPextra I saw on Amazon its out of stock till September 12. $299
For me the sordins didnt offer adequate protection for rifles, for a 22lr they were sufficient.
A lot cheaper than hearing aids.
