In 1998, while stationed in Hawaii (25th LID) I knew a poor bastard that lost his NVGs during night maneuver training after a mudslide caused him to take a huge tumble. Not only was his leg so seriously injured that he got a medical retirement, He almost lost his M4/203 under the mud and got himself buried. We found him waist deep, luckily and the barrel of his weapon was sticking out about a half inch from the mud. The Army was going to make him pay them 1/2 of the $10k the NVGs were worth, but luckily right after it was determined that the accident wasn’t his fault, a couple combat engineers went out with metal detectors and a mine locator and were able to retrieve his NVGs and they still worked. The whole thing was just chalked up as a learning lesson for everyone about the potential dangers of Mud slides during Night maneuvers.

Budget night vision is cool for preppers looking to have a couple extra sets for friends and family to at least something because something is always better than nothing.
Well the problem with that is not everybody is good at recharging them or taking care of 18650sand they explode and something that sits on your face isnt what i would want to take the chance with
@Blue Dragon Exactly. I've been vaping since 2008, no exploded batteries. Basically every 18650 I've heard of failing catastrophically has been 100% due to user error(or poor design/cheaping out, like in "hover boards"), either in the moment, or previously and to the point the cell was basically hanging on by a thread and eventually went into thermal runaway. As someone who has had to turn more people away than I can count, I can say the average lack of knowledge in end users is kind of sad. So many people have no clue that the 3A ICR18650 they pulled out of their old laptop battery is absolute shit for the 25A application they're using it in and get offended if you try and tell them different, so I frequently have to tell those people to kick rocks. It definitely doesn't help that these people are usually the ones asking for 18v 600w PWM lipo boxes but have no idea what ohms law is or that series batteries need to be balanced -_- in reality though a properly used device running 18650s is no more dangerous to be near your face than your cellphone. If anything cellphones may statistically be more dangerous.
@@nick-dm3if They rarely explode and those that do are cheap chinese knockoffs. Those vent holes around the positive terminal are to prevent that, and a product designed to use Lithium cells should also be designed with venting in mind as well.
@Mikasa Not really as dangerous as you think, at least not if you have good name brands (i have a ton of Samsung INR's sitting around the house and in the past 15 years have yet to have one vent on me). Ya you do need a charger for them but that's not a big deal. You can get a good charger for less then 15 bucks. But ya good batteries can be pricey especially the high discharge variety, but they will last you up to two years are more depending on use, so well worth the extra cost.
wire a few smaller sized lipo batteries into it like say the ones in solar lights that cost a few bucks, the replacement batteries are a couple dollars for 4 normally, I got mine at Walmart for 3 dollars. They work great for all sorts of things.
Nice review and I'm sure these are well worth $120, but they're more a monocular that you can use both eyes to look through. That's not the same as being binoculars.
Of course it's cheap. This is basically an unfiltered webcam with IR LED illuminator and a small LCD screen. The true NVG don't need illuminator. It amplify a dim light from the stars and other source.
It's just an IR sensitive camera without the IR filter. Very effective but does not amplify ambient light, only sees in the IR spectrum, which is mostly invisible to the naked eye, but with another set of these binocs the illuminator will shine like a flashlight. I have the ATN X sight II HD sight it's the same thing (roughly)
Nice video thanks, You didn’t show the outdoor view without the night vision - could you make out the mailboxes or trees AT ALL with you naked eye? Or was it pitch black? Or something else? Can you explain a little please.
I got the nightfox swift and it can pic up about 200yards in bright moonlight not in great detail but you would be able to see a figure walking and about 75 in pitch black I really like my Night vision and I definitely recommend it
Property in the country? Man, this could be a poor man's dream become reality in ALL Kinds of night time stealth mode operations, Covert and Overt Fun with plenty of Beer. Not talking cheap beer, talking Bud in Bottles. Come On!
As a owner of NV n thermal scopes, 20k worth. This $120 would be well spent imho. Amazing how well it picks up ambient light along with it's own IR projection. When using NV mono even, they eat up batteries big time. I might get a pair as scanning around the woods would allow my batteries charged up for when I need better ID of targets. Jfyi, Trijicon REAP-IR thermal scope is a small package n is military grade equipment. My NV is a ITT PVS14 gen 3 +P, both capable of being mounted on helmet with a Wilcox L4G24 mount. The Trijicon REAP-IR is mounted on my lwrc. Use a Wilcox amber filter using the PVS14 or similar scope. As the bakcklight of using the PVS14 can destroy your eyes if not used. 98% of users have no idea. Besides, with either use. If you run naked it'll light up your head like a beacon.
cool! it is a bit misleading though when when you aimed your camera at the IR light. most cameras pick it up much brighter than it is to the naked eye. try aiming your camera (any camera!) at your TV's remote control. the camera will see the little IR led flashing when you push a button.
Another good option is the Stealth Cam Night Vision Monocular Scope sold at Walmart for about $100...buy it, try it, if you don't like it return it within the 13-15 days allowed for refund. Like other gadgets...it has its limitations but for ranges upto 75-100 yards it works great. 4 AA batteries, zoom, night/day mode, light levels, focus. I have tested it on my Vepr 12 shotgun which is one of my go to home defense guns and can confidently say it will serve me well in the middle of the nyte when clearing my home if something should go bump in the nyte. I was able to get at least 1 occassionally 2 shots of #7.5 shot off while testing before it would shut off i would say due to concussion blast but that is enough assurance for me to take a shot should i ever need knowing that it was an intruder on the other end of the scope and not a loved one, friend or neighbor. It has worked just perfectly while camping, working in dark places, searching for game...would come in handy during a disaster.
i have it on there so that before i fire any shot i can be sure not to shoot/kill anyone innocent should i be faced with that situation. If i can better my odds of saving my life or that of anyone else i will. I guess i could just dump a whole mag and then find out i killed a loved one but why take the chance shooting blindly when i have night vision as one option?
Was he blurry and out of focus, even though nothing else was? I hear it's just the way they look and it's not actually the people who record him's fault. He's just a big, blurry out of focus creature that roams around.
What if you use something like a dbal or separate IR flashlight of some kind that doesn't give off that signature? Can you try that out with it? If that works fine then I could easily see this being a great option!
For that money, I could use them for keeping an eye on my land. But how visible is that red light, and how much higher would I have to go to get rid of it?
What can you see with the device with the IR light off? That’s usually the difference between a cheap camera and a photomultiplier tube. A camera is worthless without a IR light while a device, even a gen1 device, with a photomultiplier tube can see in the dark using ambient light.
Those look decent for the price. I have the yukon digital night ranger 5x mag ones that can output a video source to a pc or t.v.. These night fox have about the same clarity..
Almost any digital camera will see IR illumination.. I use my phone to check IR remote controls... the pulses are easily seen when you push the buttons
Great camera and price if you want to get into being a peeping Tom at night. Police look at camera and see that it don’t record anything and you get off scot free.
Perfect for the boat while fishing at night. Only thing to make it better would be to be able to power it from a 12 volt or 5 volt external power source, and run a USB or other digital video cable to a computer for night time navigation with a bigger screen. How long do those batteries last, and what is the field of view?
For $120? Beats the AN-PVS 5's I had way-back when in the Army...probably be better than AN-PVS 7 we had later before I got out with some really minor caveats. Crazy good for the money, really.
Not even close to pvs7. You can get gen3 tubes for it that blows this toy out of the water with image quality and battery life alone. Not to mention no need for constant IR illumination
I wonder if there's a way to use mirrors to put the bulk of it above your eye line. Like a mirror a few inches in front of you bounces light up to the lense, then the screen points down to a mirror aimed at your eye. Not sure if that's practical.
Amazon shows it as "unavailable" right now. However, the IDENTICAL item, with a "Barska" logo on it is available as the "BARSKA NVX BQ12998". The case and buttons are identical, only the ink on the top is different. However, it costs $152.31, and has two one-star reviews.
Thx ~ I'll try a pair. Possibly good for that very pre sunrise departure on fishing/boating trips. Radar works but I like to "look and see" what's out there with my eyes. I'll have to wait until next month or keep an eye out for a sale. Already blew my spare cash on a BCA upper this month. Friday deal alert. PS. That BCA upper/PSA lower is good enough so far.

The IR emitter puts out visible light because it works in the lower frequency (longer wavelength) of the IR spectrum. The higher frequency IR emitters are not visible to the human eye.
Only problem is you have to hold it...for hours at a time lol. And when you want to take a break from holding it everything goes black and you have to stand still to not fall in the dark.
This night vision like all cheap ones is a camera CCD w/o IR filter over sensor chip, so it works well, but not like a AN/PVS-4, etc, with a true Gen II Microchannel Image Intensifier Tube!!!
Syrian Army had IR spotlights on their tanks when they attacked Israel. Israeli tank crews literally saw those spotlights from miles away. Might as well use a flashlight and call it night vision because look you turn it on and you can see in the dark.
They saw the IR spotlights because the Israelis were using a newer generation of night vision that didnt need an IR flood light to work. You literally CANT see red IR emitters from miles away without IR optics... If you have passive IR optics they make active IR emitters extremely obvious. If you look at an IR strobe through a night vision optic they look a fucking flashbang grenade going off every few seconds.

@Fishy Tree agreed. You don't need 3-15k nods to be somewhat capable. Having this is better than not, it all comes down to intended purpose. Like those dudes running Sionyx cams to run n gun... deffo not at all recommended lol. I would keep 3-4 sets of these in a faraday cage just in case, like why not have this to pass around to family/friends/barter while you run your main setup?
Yoo now we need a tech dude to make an adapter for this unit to hook onto those l4g24 wilcox mounts otherwise ... duct tape
Duct tape and zip ties 👍
Nice review. The real test of NV is if can you see WITHOUT using the IR illuminator, cuz it will shout your location. Starlight NV doesn't give you away.
Same at the one sold in ALDI (Brisbane Qld) in April 2019 for $159 Au.
I wish I could find the monocular that was a kids toy that worked for less than 20 bucks. Only see across the yard but 20 bucks as kid toy. My son loved it.
I want hands free night vision so I can play golf.
Free golf!
Lol
Budget night vision is cool for preppers looking to have a couple extra sets for friends and family to at least something because something is always better than nothing.
and in true night vision goggles these light up like a fog light.
The toy night vision binoculars from the spy ware toy line looks exactly like this one in your video. it came out ten years ago for under $50.00.
They should've powered it with the Li ion 18650
It definitely doesn't help that these people are usually the ones asking for 18v 600w PWM lipo boxes but have no idea what ohms law is or that series batteries need to be balanced -_-
in reality though a properly used device running 18650s is no more dangerous to be near your face than your cellphone. If anything cellphones may statistically be more dangerous.
@@nick-dm3if bs
I believe there are filters to conceal the visible light. You could switch the illuminating LED to 940 to 950nm.
would be nice if it had a USB port to plug in a battery bank instead of using 8 batteries
The Night Fox 120R is $100 bucks more, but has rechargeable LiPo batteries,
@@jh5881 lol wtf
wire a few smaller sized lipo batteries into it like say the ones in solar lights that cost a few bucks, the replacement batteries are a couple dollars for 4 normally, I got mine at Walmart for 3 dollars.
Those are like my limited edition modern warfare night vision goggles
How were them? Were them any good?
@@Keti_Mporta They worked and were pretty cool. They used Infrared and had a little display on the inside.
Craziest night vision that WORKS!!!
Flashlight at home depot 3 for 9.97$!!!!!!
Nice video thanks,
You didn’t show the outdoor view without the night vision - could you make out the mailboxes or trees AT ALL with you naked eye? Or was it pitch black? Or something else? Can you explain a little please.
Bryan W get off you high horse fella.
you can make a IR flashlight by using red and blue gels to block that part of the spectrum.
A Night vision camera for my car would be nice
These look very similar to some I bought in Aldi in Australia, they do work well for the price
that build quality tho... feels like 10$ rc car straight from China
I got the nightfox swift and it can pic up about 200yards in bright moonlight not in great detail but you would be able to see a figure walking and about 75 in pitch black I really like my Night vision and I definitely recommend it
Cool option that is affordable especially if you have some property out in the country....Nice review....Good stuff...

That looks like something it should be in a dollar store..
cool! it is a bit misleading though when when you aimed your camera at the IR light. most cameras pick it up much brighter than it is to the naked eye. try aiming your camera (any camera!) at your TV's remote control. the camera will see the little IR led flashing when you push a button.
Just a little bit better version of the spy gear toys from a couple years ago.
I got one of those, and for the money, it's pretty cool. The odds a stacked more in favor when one can see what the ones who can't, are doing.
If you got a Vepr 12, you don't need any night vision and just get the High Ground and achieve Fire Control Superiority.
i have it on there so that before i fire any shot i can be sure not to shoot/kill anyone innocent should i be faced with that situation. If i can better my odds of saving my life or that of anyone else i will. I guess i could just dump a whole mag and then find out i killed a loved one but why take the chance shooting blindly when i have night vision as one option?
I saw a Yeti through mine but couldn't capture any footage because it didn't have the photo option so nobody believes me
A full-sized Yeti? Did you check inside to see if they left beers?
that was an orangnutan
Was he blurry and out of focus, even though nothing else was? I hear it's just the way they look and it's not actually the people who record him's fault. He's just a big, blurry out of focus creature that roams around.
Come on..man
Damit! "currently unavailable" on Amazon , I guess gettin one for Xmas is out ,
Can someone answer this question...can you buy these and buy a ir flashlight and then you don’t need the red light?
What if you use something like a dbal or separate IR flashlight of some kind that doesn't give off that signature? Can you try that out with it? If that works fine then I could easily see this being a great option!
Every IR emitter besides the ones the army have sends out that red hue
@@cianmac3934 if you wan to get 960 NM LED's and make your own IR emitter. completely invisible to the human eye.
@@CharlesRTinsley or buy a flashlight with that wavelength.
For that money, I could use them for keeping an eye on my land. But how visible is that red light, and how much higher would I have to go to get rid of it?
Nice to hunt down dogmen at night.
Screw that. Last thing I want to run into.
Would have been nice to see how they work, without the IR on... Starlight/Ambient light pickup..??
With this I WILL find me a Squatch!!!! 🦍
👍👍
What can you see with the device with the IR light off? That’s usually the difference between a cheap camera and a photomultiplier tube. A camera is worthless without a IR light while a device, even a gen1 device, with a photomultiplier tube can see in the dark using ambient light.
No one:

Those look decent for the price. I have the yukon digital night ranger 5x mag ones that can output a video source to a pc or t.v.. These night fox have about the same clarity..
Can it see through clothes? Asking for a friend.
Got to go with thermal imaging.
Tim Hauser kinky
Tim Hauser nice 🎩
uses IR Illumination, its fine for recreational use but that thing would be a big ass spotlight if you were in combat.
Okay then, we stand corrected. Nice find and review yet again sir.

Priced right
Amazon shows it as "unavailable" right now. However, the IDENTICAL item, with a "Barska" logo on it is available as the "BARSKA NVX BQ12998". The case and buttons are identical, only the ink on the top is different. However, it costs $152.31, and has two one-star reviews.
Thanks, I’ll surely use this for uh-
Exactly what i was looking for my son for when we go out hunting or camping
I dont know where I can use this but I really want to have one! Lol
you could make the ir lamp invisible if you add a 950nm filter glas in front of it (maybe 850nm works too)

Can you see ufo's at night when looking up?
You can see UFOs with your own Eye Balls if the mother f'er are close enough. You know, hovering around the trees at night...…...
Exactly
Santa claus too when he come riding on that sleigh
EXPLORTHEARTH According to some dingbats you can but no proof has been shown.
The IR emitter puts out visible light because it works in the lower frequency (longer wavelength) of the IR spectrum. The higher frequency IR emitters are not visible to the human eye.
bruh i just ordered some and i dont even hunt or play airsoft i just want nvgs
@Joe C only if you can see infrared light you will be able to see it I mean U can with eyes but it's very faint and you will get permanent eye damage
@Joe C the red light is infrared light i assume this is under 990 nanometers as its visible so i dont know what you are on about
Only problem is you have to hold it...for hours at a time lol. And when you want to take a break from holding it everything goes black and you have to stand still to not fall in the dark.
So it's just an IR viewer with no passive night vision? I guess for the money...
This night vision like all cheap ones is a camera CCD w/o IR filter over sensor chip, so it works well, but not like a AN/PVS-4, etc, with a true Gen II Microchannel Image Intensifier Tube!!!
So how well does it work w I.R. off? Range/ clarity w star/ moonlight??
It doesn't, it's not an intensifier tube, it's an IR-sensitive camera. Hence the price
Great review, thanks!
I think some cameras can pick up some amounts of IR or UV or something.
You could watch the Clintons smash hard drives and cell phones with these.....lol
