- If you're looking to book a trip to Clearwater beach Florida there's a strong possibility that your search comes down to two options. Today we're taking a look at two of the highest rated resorts in Clearwater Beach, The Sandpearl and Opal Sands resorts.
We're going to breakdown and compare the different facets of these resorts and help you decide which one works best for you and your family,

Thank you so much for the comparison - this is by far the best comparison of the 2 properties I've seen, and is very balanced. We stayed at the Sandpearl ~ 5 years ago and agree with your assessments. Functional, comfortable rooms, good food with lots of options, great pool area and beach, and lots of shopping and other great family dining close by. Also agree that it might feel a bit stuffy to some, and the "fancy" restaurant is probably not one I'd take my kids to.

I think both properties are great and worth visiting. Really you can’t lose with either. The Sandpearl is still cool, they’ve kept it up well! I also think the Sandpearl might be a little more family oriented but the Opal Sand is beautiful and there were still families. Honestly I’d go where I got the best price, lol.
We took our kids to Caretta’s (the fancy restaurant) but agreed it is the kind of place where you may prefer not to. We sat outside which made it more comfortable with the little ones. Also had a nice view.
I went to the opal sands hotel and it’s been my favorite hotel ever since, right when I walked in I instantly felt like I was on vacation. It’s been 2 years since I’ve gone and I still perfectly remember how much fun I had there. The hotel is also by a lot of the restaurants off the Beach and not to far from surf style.
I really loved the Opal Sands too. I thought both the vibe and the views were great. The Sandpearl is also pretty great and worth trying too. Not as flashy but still has lots of good to offer.

I weighed out all my options similar to you. I considered both also. We went with Opal Sands. The pictures and videos people do are amazing and it was a very unique setting there. It’s almost like there is a feeling of privacy at the Opal location. We had the top floor and it did not disappoint. Great food at Sandbar. A little walk to the beach. Who cares? You’re gonna walk anyway and swim. I would go back again in a heartbeat. If we changed locations. I think I would enjoy looking into St. Pete’s beach. 🐬
I really enjoyed the Opal Sands, it was my favorite of the two. But I gotta admit the Sandpearl is worth visiting and I’d stay there again too. I’d go so far as to say if you’ve seen one then it’s worth visiting the other at least once.

Awesome video. Thinking of going in May. I think I would like to do Sandpearl but I do have 5 people so it looks like it will be Opal Sands. My wife, like you, is a total WOW factor person so I guess it works out. 😊
Truly either property is a win but each has its advantages. Also I’m pretty sure both have 2-bedroom options so I think both could accommodate your group. You can’t beat the views at Opal Sands.

Thanks for the review! I'm in the exact situation deciding between these two. The beach is IMMENSELY better at Sandpearl, but the Opal has a much more pleasing aesthetic with that wow factor as you mentioned. Not that Sandpearl is bad by any means though. I think I'm leaning toward Sandpearl specifically for location and beach (cuz why else do you come to Clearwater), but man that Opal Sands looks way nicer.
🤣 I know it’s tuff right! I couldn’t decide so I split our trip and did 3 nights at each.
Couple questions/thoughts that may help…
Are you active on the beach? Or sitting?
Traveling with family? Kids?
Eating out or in room?
I think the Sandpearl is a little more kid friendly because of the style of the pool. But the main restaurant at Opal Sands is more casual.

We have reservations at both and I need to cancel one! Our daughter is 14 and is past the kids stuff -she wants to lay at the pool-, so we are leaning towards Opal Sands. Plus we can get a larger suite at Opal too with a 1/2 bathroom , with as you said, is important! It's a tough choice. We do prefer newer and more on the luxury side.
It’s a tough choice! I couldn’t decide either so I split our trip and we spent time at both. Really glad I did, it was neat to see both properties.
Either hotel is great. What makes it difficult is they both have advantages over the other. If you like sleek and modern, then the Opal for sure. The views from the pool are fantastic!
I think the Sandpearl is equal in luxury but it’s not as eye popping. The Sandpearl has the higher end restaurant (which can be good and bad, Caretta’s is almost too fancy) and the beach is beautiful! Good luck, hope you have an awesome trip, and let me know what you decide?!
The Sand Pearl is close to a whole lot of restuarants - three versions of Frenchy's and several others. Then there is that other place near the Public Parking area that has bands at night (No longer just a bathing suit store like it was in my youth!)
Yes the Sandpearl sits near a nice little strip of shopping and dining. It’s a nice resort in a fun part of town.

Yes that’d be totally possible. It’s even walkable although it’d be a long walk, more than a mile but doable.

Amazing comparison video, I’m looking at both of these for my next visit, I’m guessing the opal sands is more expensive to stay at.
Actually the prices of both resorts are very comparable. Either could be more expensive depending on your dates and room type. Truly either property is a win. Thanks for watching and commenting!!

Yes the Sandpearl is very walkable to restaurants and shops. And also there is a shuttle from the Sandpearl and it’s pretty easy to use. Hope this helps.

I had already selected that resort for my next trip there with my wife and it looks like I was right...
It's true that the Opal Sands' lobby is big and impressive and the suites are nice but the Sandpearl does have more advantages...
I think the Sandpearl is a great choice! I think both the location and beach are better. But I also think either choice is a win!
If I were going back I'd probably choose the one with the better price. However I will say if you've stayed at one, it's worth giving the other a try at least once.

I stay at Opal 2 to 4 times a year. It's the best place on the beach.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Opal Sands. Beautiful property with fantastic views! It’s not necessarily the best stretch of beach right there but still a great place to stay!
