Deep breathing is so beneficial for your mental health. It is even a form of mediation. I made a video talking about this actually.
With a calm mind and less stress your body naturally gears itself for success, fights off diseases and you begin to feel a better sense of well being.
Such a good thing to do, recommend it daily!

Awww I found this in my playlist called “ This playlist is for after being betrayed “ and it was full of stuff to relax like a few motivational music videos in the playlist. Video about how to forgive and forget, being your own best, how to stop caring, 9 warnings of serve depression 😭. I seriously need use all these now cause I went through another betrayal and a trauma I trying to cope like ptsd from work that I quit from and the ex friends that told me to stop being depressed and find a job, but my mind just not in the right state I just in a mess I can’t focus on anything, I don’t feel joy in what I like 😭. I usually listen to relaxing music to relax me but after this trauma my mind is in a mess I can’t think straight I forgot to on it. I also got diagnosed with eczema which itches all the time and stabbing and burning sensation I can’t cope with the itch I just gave up hope trying to almost live and just lay on the bed skipping meals while crying in pain , I still try eating dinner but it’s hard to eat I have too much on my mind and the itch makes my arm irritable to move

I've been the same way since I was eleven years old, and the best thing to do is find a therapist who specializes in anxiety and/or trauma. There are certains types of therapy such as EMDR (the kind I've started) that help your brain process anxiety without inducing panic and teaching you to control it. If that isn't for you, I also find going to forums like reddit where people list their own experiences and advice helpful.
      Best of luck

many people who are coming to this video having an axiety attack. we really don't want to have to wait for relief nor do we want long drawn out reasons why breathing exersizes are helpful, we know they're helpful. that's why we're here. we literally just want the exersizes and nothing else because we are in panic. it's extremely frustraiting.

Thanks for making this video, Meghan! I'm a HUGE fan of deep breathing. During my 60-day health anxiety recovery I discovered the power of not only deep breathing exercises, but also an overall greater mindfulness of my breathing patterns - at times when I'm feeling anxious, or not!
To overcome anxiety it's key that you not try AVOID or RUN AWAY FROM uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, sensations and situations - lest you validate the fear in your subconscious mind, empower the anxiety, unwittingly ensuring it comes back, stronger and more frequently than ever.
So, I made sure to practice deep breathing ALL THE TIME. Eventually, I improved my breathing skills (yup, breathing is a skill!) to the point where I was breathing more deeply ALL THE TIME, reducing my baseline level of anxiety, while raising my ability to respond to acutely challenging situations when they arise.

Pranayama, plain and simple. Basically it teaches how you can control the prana using breath and consequently your thoughts and mind. Folks who are interested in the real thing, please read Swami Vivekananda's Raja Yoga lecture series. It's available on the internet. He introduced the West to Yoga.

90% doesnt know who to breathe properly so i would say the best breathing technique is concentrating on ur diaphram musscle pulling it up and down (belly goes out and in while relaxing ur shoulders) really fast for one minute... in the beginning u will most likely got problems here and there, so belly going in while ur breathing in or the other way around... dont judge urself just take a sec and finish the exercise. After a while u will get the hang of it. namaste

Avoid sinus problems and smoking. The science behind this is that the air taken from noise is rich in ions and that the brains second most important fuel is O2

Folks attention spans have now reached a new low statistically. I think it’s 3 seconds. No joke. Which is why this guy made this comment. It’s crazy how the masses are now unable to concentrate more than 3 seconds. Their minds are racing so fast about 9 million things they need something to distract them from it all every, yes, 3 seconds. Imagine if that’s how long sex lasted lol.

Useful video. For overthinking problem be careful what you feed your mind. Avoid comparing your life with others, reduce watching negative social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Your breathing is related to the brain [mind] and gives relief from stress-anxiety. For a relaxed mind observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath sensations at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. You can sit or lay down on the bed--eyes closed--No deep breathing. Don’t fight your thoughts. With practice the mind will relax. Never meditate with expectations but with self-awareness. Observe your breath anywhere -anytime-- before sleep, at work, when travelling, taking a walk, etc with eyes open or closed. Like me make breath observing a lifetime habit to have a better life. Best wishes--Counsellor.

These are great! I find that when I'm having panic/anxiety what calms my racing heart most is to inhale for 5 sec, HOLD for 5 sec, and then breath out for about 8 sec. The holding really seems to force me to focus on that and not on anything else and the forced longer exhale does wonders for slowing my heart from pounding. Love all your videos Meghan!

I’ve been having a couple attacks since October thinking it was just my blood sugar. After going to the doctors and getting every test under the sun it was determined that I’m actually having panic attacks. Apparently my aunt went through the same thing when she was my age. As much as that sucks, it’s nice to see that there are plenty of videos online and a community to help you get through it. I’ve never encountered something so scary, so I’m glad to know I’m not alone in this

I get this weird breathing situation when I’m really conscious of myself when everyone can hear you breathe when it’s really quiet, my breath is sitting really high and my breathing becomes more forced as I’m panicking even more because I think people will think something. When I’m comfortable this sounds dumb but right now I’m in one of those situations and it’s really hard to get out of it, when you (in my mind) cannot sigh really deep or something because then, you know, people think things.

On my way to a stressful job and decided to do some breathing techniques. I’ve never tried the switching nostrils one, but I do like that one the best it seems like that one provided me with the most stress relief. Thank you for this tip.

Hi Meghan! I love this video so much, and I want to make sure everyone can understand it and use it to help themselves! That's why I wanted to let you know that your captions are a little off.
At about 1:09, the auto-captions say "tool to use if your feelings just out" where they meant to say "Incredible tool to use if you're feeling stressed out."
When you get a chance, could you fix that? That'll help the 360 million folks globally who rely on closed captions to understand videos. Thank you, and keep up the great work!

excellent I'll try this I also tell myself "I'm glued to the ground I will not move " I kinda go with it telling myself "it'll pass I will not die" also coughing helps me too. Ad long as I distract myself from the panic attack ect.

"Equal breathing" is the way that humans extract energy from the oxygen in air, and then detoxify the carbon dioxide that is otherwise stored as fat. "Alternate nostril breathing" is the fastest way to eliminate nausea, dizziness and vertigo... it usually only takes 30 seconds. I would love to teach you how to eliminate a migraine quickly, for free...

One most important step while doing the breathing exercise is fill your stomach up while breathing in and release the air out from mouth while breathing out stomach should clench.. feel the difference when you do this..

Also look into diaphragmic breathing or breathing with the stomach. it is the quote unquote proper way to breath and it promotes better general health and mood :)

Advice: if you talk that much before you start, people might lose interest and skip video and subsequently lose the opportunity of knowing these exercises.. a max of 30 sec catchy intro is more than enough. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

These techniques are actually breathing exercises of yoga or 'pranayams' as we call them in India. It's way too old and have seen my Dad and Grandad do these along with other yoga asans for as long as I can remember. I myself have been doing it way before I hit my teens and it's been over 15 years now. These are effective if done properly and 15 mins morning and evening gives great benefits to other systems as well. Here is a tip: The 3rd one is called Anulom Vilom pranayam, you can google it. It gives the best results and it requires patience, so switch on some meditation music for 5 or 15 mins to make sure you do it for a definite amount of time, favourable when the stomach is empty so mornings and evenings are best. Be a regular, even if for 10-15 days and you will notice outstanding benefits.

IT IS ALL VERY GREAT AND HELPFULL i JUST FIND THAT THE "TRADITIONAL" WAY TO HOLD YOUR FINGERS WHEN DOING ALTERNATIVE NOSTRIL BREATHING VERY UNCOMFORTABLE AND END UP CONCENTRATING MORE ON THAT THAN BREATHING SURELY YOU CAN USE ANY OF THE FINGERS YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH?
