in this movie, the protagonist lied about being released due to amnesty. but in history, murdering 3 or more people in the same family, and dismantling people are both crimes that couldnt be pardoned.

Jimmy Wang Yu (Donnie Yen's father in the film) was the first screen hero of modern Chinese cinema as well as the most popular and famous Chinese actor from 1965 until Bruce Lee's appearance in 1971.

14:54 the gang leader probably didnt want to find Tang Long cause he understood that Long might be tired of gang life. but because the judge told him in front of everyone, he has to go find Tang Long to maintain orders. And Tang Long would most likely refuse, meaning he has to kill his own son eventually.
btw, the gang leader's actor is Wang Yu. He was a popular action actor at his prime age. This is the last movie he participated in. When the director asked him to play this role, he said he didnt want his character to be defeated or he will not play in this movie. So, the director let his character be struck by a lightning. It is also because its against the Chinese's traditional values for a son to kill his own father even tho he is the main villain in the movie.
In real life, Wang Yu was associated with gangs

I feel like someone should mention that Donnie Yen cutting off his own arm is mostly likely homage to, Jimmy Wang Yu, the actor playing the father most famously known as the One-Arm Swordsman.

I gotta say - I really do enjoy that someone on the Patreon suggested this. This would never get voted on, I imagine, most reaction channels just watch the same exact selection of 70s/80s movies. I'm sure this'll broaden a lot of people's horizon, who may only know Donnie Yen from the Ip Man movies.

love this movie so much, shown it to many people and they are always so surprised by it. When you go into it without a clue it just hits you with so many twists and turns - starts out as this detective thing then leads into some really gritty martial arts/wuxia. The wuxia element is extremely well done, a much more grounded version than normally seen.
There's lots of awesome little touches, too, that show the creators have a really good understanding of wuxia, but they don't feel a need to explain everything - they just let it be and show these wuxia elements in a natural way.
Like when Tang Long cuts his arm off - first he hits himself on the left side of his chest in a specific manner. This is to block the blood flow to his arm so he doesn't immediately bleed to death. It's the sort of thing a practitioner is known to be able to do, controlling their body in this manner.

As much as I remember, Tang Long means "Dragon", in many movies the protagonist is called that way. Must be the reason the movie is often presented as "Dragon", and because is more apealing to western audiences than just Wu Xia. Great video guys!

This is random but I like it. Martial arts films deserve more visibility.
For more Donnie Yen goodness, I would recommend:
    - SPL (2005), also known as Killzone in the US.
    - Iron Monkey (1993). Older but gooder. Try to find the Hong-Kong cut if you can. The US cut has a different (worse) soundtrack.

Don’t know if this will work, i asked before for a reaction to The Beast Must Die 1974, One actor in there Michael Gambon, reminds me so much of Matthew, its a murder mystery, it gives you a 30 second break to guess who the werewolf is before it continues. Its one of a kind. No one has reacted to it. Hope you read this.

Emily did the "People's Elbow"? What is next? Is she cleaning up a laptop, make it all shiny, turn that thing sideways and shove it down Matthew's ....."? Give me a "Hell Yeah!" for that, lol.

Very unexpected but welcome movie choice! I recommend a 2008 movie Painted Skin. Donnie Yen is also in it but it’s more of a fantasy love story with other characters. Really good.

It is good. I love that they are doing this. Reactors need to start broadening their horizons. Asian cinema has lots of great movies that is waiting to be explored
