Ive scraped thousands in my lifetime north central Illinois was fortunate to have a fur buyer in the town we lived im 65 sure miss it yr doing a great job they look nice
Even though I have fleshed and boarded hundreds of them, I always enjoy seeing how others do it. I also do the thing where you run something down the newly boarded to get that last bit of fats off. I rub sawdust over the dried pelt instead of mineral spirits, to catch that grease. How many 5x do you have? What do they sell for ( #1's)?
I have been watching you for about two years and I like how you teach people and take your time doing it i have a question how wide are your boards at the bottom i bought a guy out and I got a lot of new boards but think they are not wide enough great video keep them videos coming 👍👍🇺🇲
I noticed you don't spend a lot of time or any on the head.. Am I missing something? or do they just not have a bunch of fat on their heads?..Thanks!👍👍
There is no value on the head for the fur market. I take the cheek meat off if any and move on. For tanning I would get it cleaner but for fur market the head has no value so it doesn’t need to be scraped. Hope this helps
Do you ever sleep 😂? You’re running a tremendous trapline and then skinning and fleshing the pelts. You must be related to Donald J Trump….he gets by with 4 to 5 hours of sleep 😴 and I’m betting you are not getting much more than that either. 🤣🤣🤣
Not trying to belittle someones means of making a living, but I take home $1000 in 4 days work, sleeping half that time. Let's say you get $20 per pelt. 100 pelts is $2000. No you pay taxes, and fur license fees, gas to drive to the market and to check traps, buying traps, knives, boards, tools, and supplies. And that's just the overhead. Now lets factor ALL the time it takes to trap, skin, flesh, board, and take to market all these hides. You couldn't possibly be earning more than $5 per hour after all that. I mean, am I missing something here? How is it worth it?
Ya that's how I look at it ik I probably spend more on gas just taking them to get sold but shoot its more of just doing it for the tradition factor and because I like hunting and trapping and fishing....Plus idk about any of you but a Gall dang coon can be a menace and if we didn't cull them like this every year you'd have coons living in your addict there would be so many around it would be insane...once you have delft with the destruction I have from coons then you wouldn't think trapping was a waste of time...Like who doesn't want some extra beer money anyways?... The traps and the gear pay for themselves after you accumulate some your not spending to much on it so it's all worth it in the end.. Keep doing good work neighbor and I'll stay watchin an learnin from ya over here in Minnesota this is my first year trapping coons so I have a ways ta go but it's been working and I have fun doin it...

Fantastic system and great job on your fur handling!!
Thanks
For all the beginners before fleshing the hide, make sure all burrs and such are combed out cause they will cause a tear in the pelt while fleshing.

Good for you. Trapping isn’t about money anymore it’s about carrying on a tradition that this country was built on
Nothing wrong with working for some extra beer money.
