Beginner here and have watched many skinning videos, this is probably my favorite. You answered some details for me other videos kind of didn't clear up for me, thanks. I like the vice grip tip as well.

I always like seeing how others do their skinning even though I have skinned probably 2 thousand at least furbearers in the last 27 years ( hey, I'm no long liner, my biggest catch season was 81 foxes, 35-40 coons, 7 mink, a dozen or so beavers, 2 otters, maybe a dozen rats, and some possums and a skunk or 2 or 3). I also skin for taxidermy, and skinned a bunch of critters for another trapper as well. And people have been giving me their foxes and sometimes coons. We have a ton of red fox here and predator hunting has become popular. I like your method of skinning raccoons and will try it when I get more in. I have a friend who has 4 of them in a freezer right now.

Nice man! Glad u liked watchin! Jealous of the fox for sure I’m usually good for one or two a year and that’s it so awesome to hear that number of fox!

Nice demo! The only part that made me a bit nervous was pulling on the hide with the knife in your hand. I used to do the same thing and skinned a ton of coon that way until one day my hand with the knife in it slipped (got in a hurry) and cut my opposite knuckle deep. Not fun. Had to send the head of the coon off to get checked for rabies and then the next day my hand swelled like a balloon. Antibiotics and then everything was ok, but I learned my lesson. The vice grips for pulling the flanks I like. I've used pliers but even then I slip sometimes so I'll give them a try. Anything to save the hands can't hurt. Great job 👍

Thank you! I’m sure there will be a day I slip up with a knife but for now I’ve only cut myself once and it wasn’t too bad. Thanks for watchin and let me know how u like the Vice grips!

Hey Luke. I have to admit I normally don’t enjoy the how to process the win else anymore since I know longer do it. But I actually really enjoyed your instruction and the way you presented it. You actually are very good in front of the camera. Thank you for another awesome video. I am envious of your youth though. I can remember being young strong and in shape. Aww the old days lol. I really admire how how to earth and grounded you are. Not many guys your age are. You definitely seem to be a great guy. God bless buddy.

A pair of catfish skinning plyers work the same easyer to me. Since i am 50 would hate how short the clamps are. That's a lot a squats. Add a 2 foot 150 pound coil spring above your gambrel it will keep pressure so you don't have to pull by hand. Just put about 8 inches of stress on and that head will come easy

Tail Pullers. If You don’t have anything else, 2 Round Screw Drivers work good, 1 shaft on each side of tail grip both on both sides, and Pull.

Like that set up, pretty efficient, i made a vise grip set up where I welded a d ring to it then a chain and a foot stirrup to clamp the hide and use my foot to pull it instead of my hands. Think I’m going to build a skinning machine 👍
