Beautiful piece Ronaldo!!! I just want to say thank you for these short inspirational videos. Stay up brother and heal up!! Everything you touched on is so true, but seeing you cruise makes me so happy because it is a reminder that even just rolling is liberating.
Hey Julian… thanks for your kind words and thanks for being part of this community. I’m good bro, I’ve been skating a lot but you are spot on about the message on this video. Sometimes all we need is to get out and push… the rest happens automatically. Looking forward to seeing you soon! 👊🏼
The timing of this video is somewhat miraculous. Today I fell and hit my head doing a stupid simple skate trick (don't worry, I'm ok). That, along with other recent injuries, is making me really think about my relationship with skateboarding (I'm almost 46). It's that feeling that skateboarding gives you that I need to keep in mind. When I get back on the board, I need to remember that. Thanks for this video. 👊
Wow… glad to hear you’re ok. Yes, made this video for everyone who is going through doubts, injuries etc… but most of all of us, for us, older skaters out who are dealing with all the limitation that comes with being older. Thanks man… easy to forget why we started this adventures in the first place so I’m glad the video has shed some light. 🙏
Great video mate, you have to remind yourself the only person you have to please is yourself. Social media puts a lot of pressure on us to keep up with everyone else & make huge gains just to be seen as relevant. But often that just makes you feel overwhelmed sometimes to the point of not even wanting to do it anymore. I go through ups and downs but something always happens to remind me I do enjoy it and just to make sure I only have to please myself. Injuries are always a set back and create a lot of doubt but take it easy and slowly and sensibly getting back into it as you heal remembering to look after yourself and do lots of warming up and stretching as well was warming down every day even when you don’t skate will keep you on the right track. 👊🏼
Cheers mate… and thanks for being there with me in this UA-cam journey. We both know how hard and lonely it can be sometimes. We must keep reminding each other why we started this in the first place and how much we have leaned along the way. Skating hasn’t improved much haha but it’s amazing how much we’ve learned about making videos and telling stories. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this beautiful message!!! This and the other one about the 70 year old gentleman gives me motivation to get myself a new board and go skate, because I’m not old, I just stopped skating for a few years. I’m 55 years old. Thanks again Sir, all the best.
Thanks for sharing your story. 55? Still a long way to go. As I said, we might need to adapt to a more cautious way of skating but the pleasure still the same…. The feeling of the flowing is identical. All the best 🙏
Amazing video so true bro !!! thanks so much for sharing this moment🙏, for most of us those obligatory stops in the stand pit are hard to handle Skating is such a beautyfull experience with this incredible feeling to be alive and free :) but pain and procrastinattions are in the pack too..Your video strengthens my motivation to have fun and ride as long as i can and what has to happen will happen 🙏✌🤙
It's been nearly a month since I've skated, and I think a lot of my hesitancy, apart from it being a very wet autumn in Britain, is that I know full well skating is always pay to play. After forty you've definitely got to listen to your body to have any kind of longevity with skateboarding, but sometimes I have to remind myself that the hardest part is often starting and putting one foot in front of the other when you know you've got to put time in with a broom and a squeegee just to make the park or wherever skateable. Thanks for this video, dude, I needed that 👊
Totally agree with you. Sometimes it takes an extra effort to start but once we “dress for the occasion” it becomes easier. I lived in London for almost 20 years and I know the weather in the UK doesn’t help at all. Saying that, in the last few years there are so many cool indoor parks being built. Hopefully one will pop up closer to to you. I also need to sweep the park, I hate the thought of slamming on a pebble and that’s usually part of my warming up routine! 😂😂😂 Thanks for sharing your story… great to connect with other like minded skaters.
I can relate to this so much. I'm 19 and I haven't been able to skate that much for about the last 10 to 12 months. I ended up spraining both of my ankles and also getting Achilles tendonitis on each foot. Even though only one of them was diagnosed with that, I felt the same symptoms in the other foot. Somewhere deep down I've been feeling a lot better and I feel like I actually can go out and skate again. Part of me just doesn't want to get my hopes up only then to probably end up not skating again for another long time. Either because I feel like I'm not ready, or because I'm afraid I'm going to hurt myself again. But then I sit down and I really realize that me not being able to skateboard hurts a lot more than any pain I've felt so far. I ordered a pair of shoes to hopefully help fix my problem which is my flat feet. I tried going back into PT again and I have been feeling a lot better. I know i'll be able to skate again at the same level if not better than before. 👊
That’s the amazing thing about the internet and even though there is so much rubbish in here it is also a good place to find support from other like minded skaters. I think sometimes we just expect too much from ourselves. Instead of risking another injury trying something hard why not just enjoy the basics. Progression can translate into motivation but it also has an opposite effect when things doesn’t go the way you wanted it to go. It’s really important to listen to your body… Back to the basics is probably what we should aim for at the moment. That should slowly build up confidence again.
Thank you for this. I feel the very same way. I simply don't have the time to skate as much as I would like. I have a family and a more than full time career. But when I do get to go I have the same apprehension and I procrastinate going skating. But I'm glad to know I'm not the only one, it helps push me past that procrastination point.
Yes for sure… definitely not alone. Hesitation is always present but the true is that the majority of the time that I decide to go, I’m always glad that I went. Start… Go easy… just for a push and no big expectations.👊🏼
Great video man. I’m 44 and hurt my foot this summer skating a mini half pipe. I gave myself about a two weeks off and slowly got back in. Spent the rest of my summer having a blast. Pain comes with skating. Just do some light cruising if tricks are taking a toll on your body. Skate or die my friend.
Thanks man… yes, its an amazing sport but you do pay for it sometimes. I’m slowly back into it. Managed a good session last weekend with some friend but as you said, I’m playing some for the time being. Thanks for sharing your story! 👊
Awesome video Ronaldo!❤❤❤ That feeling comes and go... I'm in that kind of mood too those days... It's been almost 2 weeks I haven't skate... But I sure this feeling will go away after a good session! Also fall season here doesn't help, it's cold and rainy here...😅
I really admire your motivation to skate in the winter but you’re right, as soon as we get a good session in, the mood changes completely. I’m just getting to a point where I’m starting to accept the fact the I really need to change the way I skate. I don’t know how yet… Old age kicking in haha 😂 Thanks man, glad you enjoyed! 👊
This is beautifully filmed, edited and narrated. It is also so relatable... Thank you for sharing it. For me, I feel there are always ways to adapt and to play the game of skateboarding in a way that mitigates risks and the chances of injury to a minimum. I am 40 now, and I know, as a rule, which tricks and manouvers put me at higher risk and which ones work for me well, that are 99.9% of the time riskfree. For example, I have never hurt myself in 25 years doing a fs rock n roll, therefor, I can safely include that into my risk free bag. The same can be said for a frontside noseslide, or a smith grind, or crook. I can't same the same for a 360 flip or a nollie flip so these tricks are eliminated from my bag. I eliminate all tricks, and obstacles that don't feel right for me, or that I have had a history of getting hurt with. This doesn't mean I do not push myself or try new things, I do, but I use a formula that works pretty good, take baby steps on new obstacles and tricks, and generally take my time. I am in no rush. I am wise enough now to know that the joy in skating isn't the destination... It is the proccess of getting there. I don't care how good I am or if I fulfill all my desired tricks in this lifetime. That does not matter. Skating is hugely personal, and what matters is that we all have fun, feel secure and make the most of every moment spent rolling on our skateboards.
That’s very wise of you… very nice bag of (risk free) tricks! Looks like you have all worked out and that’s probably what most of us should do really… keep playing safe! I’d rather skate for the next 20 years or so doing basics stuff then have a terrible injury for trying to progress too fast! I guess is clear… we need to enjoy the journey. Pick wisely out battles and looks at the simple pleasure skateboarding gives us and hold on to that. Thank you so much… for sharing your thoughts. I’m glad you enjoyed the video! 👊
@@RonaldoBeatles Yep, I couldn't agree more. I'd much rather be consistantely skating for 20 + years longer while enjoying the journey over risking getting broken off on a regular basis. Looking at the simple pleasures is a good way of framing it. There's definitely no perfect failsafe formula, but I hope this one will keep me going until the wheels fall off! Thanks again for the inspiration, I'll definitely keep up with your channel.
Haha… thank you my friend and I’m stoked that you enjoyed the video. I went up that hill twice as I wasn’t happy with the initial images. I guess it was all worth it! Merci Beaucoup 🙏🏻
Thanks Liam… I’ve been stuck in front of the computer for the last couple of days too but now that the video is done I want to go out and skate. Take care mate and enjoy your session!
That’s so nice of you… Obrigado! We both know how long it takes sometimes to make just a 3 minutes video. I’m stoked that you like it, specially coming from another fellow UA-camr who I also admire! Big hug ♥️
WHAT ABOUT YOU? HAVE YOU EVER FELT THE SAME? How did you break the cycle ? ? ?
