I'm from Houston and there is a whole segment of black culture down here that's country/zydeco. They trail ride and do all that stuff. I'm really not into it much but I have friends that are so I am around it and that to me is just a black form of country with a touch of Louisiana.

I'm just glad a woman of color is seizing the opportunity bring something both familiar and new to country music. Although I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of country music, but I appreciate music from Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Conway Twitty, Dolly Parton, John Denver and Hank Williams just to name a few. To me, country songs are unique in their relatable stories and lyrics. So, I find it funny that an American woman (a Texan even!) is not allowed to relate or showcase to that part of her culture just because she's of a certain skin color? I just keep laughing. I can't wait for Beyoncé's album to top worldwide charts and prove these haters wrong.

Artists will always have to deal w/ a lil' pushback whenever they decide to step outside of they comfort zone. Beyoncé Carter used to come prepackaged w/ a video and a step for every single song. She kinda switched up around the _Drunk in Love_ era. Her main fan base is the gxy community. During the late aughts, they expected a _Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)_ treatment. I believe she got tired of all that because she was getting older. She started doing "ratchet-styled" music. That was a major change for her fan base. Nah, she's doing country. My only question is, "Will the Beyhive support this movement?" We saw how they did w/ _Lemonade_ so we'll see. The hype around this project is pretty minimal. Puff Daddy done took all of the focus away from the rollout. It's still early so we shall see...

Is no one watching how people in r&b and pop are coming out against Beyonce’? Accusing her and jayzee of stealing songs and ruining other peoples careers?? Even making them sign nda’s!!!
I have nothing against any artist expressing themselves. I loved me some Tina Turner; but her country album kind of sucked. Even elton John’s country album was less than desirable.
Its not about people not wanting black artist in country. However there are those of us who like to keep it wholesome.
Huge fan of Charlie Pride and Darius Rucker’s-well( they represent wholesome).
But country music is dying because people have no morals anymore. In 5 years beyonce and jayzee will have done away with country music altogether; they aren’t artist they are sharks .
And beyonce’s version of Jolene- the lyrics are just ghetto.
Most people who reject country also reject God and good nature toward humanity.
Think what you want about country music but is not racist. It about God, forgiveness, family.

Problem is, Beyonce sings well, but the song is lyrically lazy. It was written by a comittee, not by the artist. It also suffers from what most pop songs suffer from [and most country music now] is a lack of source material and hasn't anything to bounce itself off of. Country music often is a folk music of sorts, and talks about people, places, n ya it throws out brand names, but the brands are central to the identity. MOdern country has suffered a lot due to being cliche. Beyonce's work here is not just cliche, it's cringe cliche because it pokes fun at the cliche and then recreates it in an uninteresting way. It's also due to a distinct lack of verbal cue: she doesn't sound country, never lived rurally and never had much of a connection to that music in the first place.

@@gregoryjeanbaptiste8055 I appreciate your question. I do believe I answered it already, though... :) 1 song is not an album. Dipping into Country with a song long ago and doing a full length Country album now in an attempt to crossover and gain a new fan base and AOTY are 2 different things. Her retarded try hard white washed Country Western cosplay and hanging around Taylor Swift is an attempt to take over Country and win Album Of The Year - because she can't do it in R&B at this point. It won't work. I'm still trying to find a way to block this irritating clown from my feed.

duh some people don’t like her. There’s literally many black country artists already. Some act like she’s the first. Also it’s not country per her own words

When a white person sang Soul/Disco or Rap, they didn't get this much push-back.

Exactly, nobody owns a damn genre of music. The entitlement of people never ceases to amaze me.

Talent is talent regardless of skin color. It's shameful that people are bringing race into the conversation.
Criticism is also color blind. It's a shame these panelists assume it as an attack on her skin color. They're just manufacturing controversy through the lens of CRT.
Beyonce has shown she is creative and she can cross genres, and I applaud her for that.
But I can read between the lines and see that these people celebrate her blackness over her talents.

CRT is a boogeyman invention that was only popularized a few years ago. Get real.

It's music. Why are these media guys drumming up controversy? Why the bring up her color? I do like that she is from Texas but that shouldn't matter either.

This album has like 20 tracks, which means it’s overkill and she’s trying too hard to win an AOTY. She’s collaborated with Miley Cyrus to make a big hit. She reeks desperation at this point.
