- This is the actual recovery process of the F350. Notice in several shots of this video there are only 2 tires of the wrecker touching the ground. And for all you Cummins fans out there, Yes thats a Dodge 5500 pullin out that big Ford.

It sure takes talent to be a good tow truck driver and I don’t care what anyone says. You have to know what your doing or many could get hurt and maybe even lose the tow truck too. Great job guys and thanks for sharing.
I been towing since 1980 and always kept A traffic lane open if this guy was A experienced recovery man he could of did the same.
With the size of his light duty wrecker... the heavy weight of that lifted one ton dually with larger tires, gradient resistance added, the steep gradient resistance & miring resistance... it wouldn't have pulled it parallel. or it would've bent that light duty boom. Even a straight on rear twin line pull was clearly maxxing out that truck.... sure, a medium or heavy could do it... but for the size of the recovery truck... he did it correctly. and obviously.. traffic was almost non existent & not held up or delayed . he did fine for the equipment he had.
some tow truck drivers do the best they could with what they bring to the table. Thats one of the lessons i learned from level 1 training many years ago from The God Father of towing. RIP SC. This is actually a good training video on how to do it another way...
STEVE THE GOD. Yes
When my wife gets stuck in her recliner, I call this guy :)
lmao
Aaaaaaa man your not right lmao
Lmao
Nice work driver!!! Clean pick and safely done!! stay safe out there!!!
you know what sometimes you just gotta f*** with the whole situation that you're in and figure out what works best
nice recovery . my dad was a tow truck driver . i seen him use extra pullys, and all other sorts of good tricks to tricky pull outs
It's always nice buying them in this shape....
I've done more with less but that was a long time ago before I got "smart" and realized that there is a truck for every situation. as a CIRT instructor that's one of the points I stress constantly.
wheelift is used for both towing the broke down car and also to attach the spade to for anchoring the tow truck.
maybe he didnt have a spade. i definitely would have used mine. but then again i probably would have called someone else. i wouldnt use my 2 ton for this
Of course he's gonna say that the best thing to do is "take it back to our place".
Iv been doing recovery on the turnpike in fla and have towed out some crazy shit but this wrecker driver is bad ass !!!
If your in Florida, what company out of curiosity?
Thanks for sharing your video
2 Ton Wrecker operator here, and this was not the ideal way to recover this F350.
I agree there was a better way to done that
Rookie has to learn somehow
@@trd4d yeah on a piece SHIT like that, should have left in the ditch but it will kill the grass
@@GEROW1963 Not the point. Tow truck operators are asked to recover things no matter what they think of the vehicle.
he does have it on a high idle system cuz most likely his winch system is running off the idler shaft in either the transmission or the transfer case as either a hydraulic pump or as a chain drive
Oh ok....I have never seen something like that. It's crazy. I can understand putting some bigger tires on but damn this is just insane.
Right tires for heavy duty truck
I don't know what was rougher the tow truck operator, or the ride in the truck going off the road into the ditch
Recovery lessons required.
I have never seen something so easy made so hard. no reason to close entire road and why drag it sideways it has wheels let them do the work.
Good job guys
this makes me happy
9(
Not sure what you are watching but I saw the WINCH doing the work, not the Cummins
A whole bunch of arm chair quarterbacks here that couldn't pull a carrot out of the ground.
Loren Reece k
At least they'd finally pull the carrot with out pulling 2 yards of topsoil with it .
My 100 ton twin steer would pick that like picking blueberry. Are u kidding me
@@9carcottrell246 Somehow I think if you truly had one because of all the cost associated with it " payments Lic Insurance Permits ETC " that you'd out working it instead of watching youtube.
B Anno their is no payments lol ha hah
That's a lot of stress on that equipment, I would've done the recovery with a 20 ton but that's just me and if you like it I love it. For the record I own a 35 ton and to all the operators out here whether you drive a 10 ton to a 70 ton rotator
I didn't get to finish lol. I just wanted to say to everyone to be safe and God bless you and your families because this is one dangerous job
r
And MOVE OVER for tow drivers!!
all the strain was because you don't use the wheel lift for any kind of support, that's why the front wheel came off the ground, they make wheel chucks for that
It's a wheel lift. Its not a set of out riggers. It should never be used to secure the truck during a recovery.
Actually, on a non integrated wrecker the wheelift can be used to anchor you. If your just sliding on wood, you gotta use the wheelift sometimes
@@mikeford675 BS
great work.
very nice recovery.
Looks like a lot of stress on that Dodge 5500 frame and the wheel lift pulling a F-350 with 22.5 tires sideways up an embankment. I believe that is a Century 412 since it only has one cyl. for the boom. That is a light duty unit doing the job of a medium duty if you ask me.I like the part of him shaking his head about taking it to the shop of the owners choice, but I can't blame him he will make more off storage than he does for the recovery!!
Nice recovery... That f350 is about the limit of that 5500 Dodge IMO.. Had to be a 9k truck easily.
another fact they are still #1 in sales
Damn....I can see why it flipped......Look at the size of those wheels!!
Shane42011 didn’t flip
on wreckes your suppose to pull up and get out and look how your gonna do it then put your truck where needs to be where you recover out what your recovering without haveing to move the wrecker any where you pull it straight out to your wheel lift then hook and go police dont like you to half to keep movin around they want you to hurry in a safley manner get it out and get gone cause whatever wrecker service is the quickest and the safest and the best is the one they will call the most
Job well done .. Good recovery .
Good job steve y look like a pro..
Are the extensions over the dual wheels just made out of plastic?
haha thats funny that cummins fans really think it this video has anything to do with engine in the tow truck!!!!!!! keep reaching boys. and on a side note, nice recovery with that small of a truck. well done.
good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rookie. He should've parked his truck on the other side of the road facing away from the wrecked truck, Or camera view. Put the wrecked truck in park. grabbed the right front with J-hook, Or wrap a chain through Lower frame, (on low end) and winched it all the way out in one shot. 10-15 minutes at max. The road would be blocked regardless. I miss this shit. lmao
@ John Appleseed- Wow, you sure put me in my place. You're a pretty sharp fella', what with your quick witted and intelligent reply. Your intelligence astounds me.
It IS textbook what we get asked to do ALL the time in the tow industry. SHP calls and says GET IT OUT. And they dont want to hear "The proper way is going to take more time and another truck." However, as the operator, you HAVE to take charge of the scene and take care of the equipment, and your own safety. There were multiple times in that video that I cringed for the operator's safety.
I think he did a hell of a good job
That is how it is done!!
Haha you're not kidding, I see somebody in a ditch every week when december rolls around.
He should have put on the spade before the first time lowering the wheel lift.
wow - the power - the minion truck that crashed is no match for winch.... shows u that industrial equipment outperforms weekender trucks with ease.
Great job! And you got the insurance tow. I hope you got at least 2 hours on it, I would have put 3 LOL? My kind of tow truck driver,
That driver is very smart and experienced! Nice job!
Actually... he performed this horribly.
@@mikeford675 please explain.
@@PaulJersey He used his underlift as a spade, which you aren’t supposed to do. He would’ve had an easier recovery and not have the front end of the truck come off the ground if he pulled it out at an angle. Just a lot of things that wouldn’t happen with proper training.
very nice recov. that was a bad ditch to be in, but gotter pulled out and in good time.
rob37greenbike
It seems better idea put the cables. In the front of the truck.and pull the front end up first .also positon the truck parallel to the truck but ahead enough. So by the time the cable winds in the truck is almost on the flat and ready to be hooked. Drop it in neutral and let the trans toast.if its going far away.
MrCharlyvallarta8 .
looked like a pretty successful recovery to me...why fault the guy?
I just bought a 2005 F250 and read the manual. Ford states that these trucks can lose control and go where you don't want them to. They are heavy and tall but the worst thing is our roads are designed to throw you down a hill and trap you in a ditch with no possibility of recovering your wayward truck.
Now look at the bright side. Firemen and tow truck drivers get something to do and make a little money. The auto repair guys have work and don't forget the hospital. Heck this truck most likely is totaled so the local dealership gets to sell another vehicle. This is another version of trickle down economics, the poor saps insurance money gets thrown all around this great nation of ours.
After this wreck the tow truck operator will shine up his truck and the hospital will clean the bed sheets and restock, waiting for the next unlucky person to do it all over again. Any body can see that if some deer jumps out in front of you here you have no where to go but down in the ditch.
Always wear your seat belt. On TV the other day they actually showed some poor guy being whipped out the drivers window from a truck like this and must have gone up in the air over 20 feet looking like a rag doll after he rolled it about 8 times. I think he lived though. The first thing the anchor man said though was"no word on whether alcohol or drugs were involved." Like that somehow makes it okay to relish in the spectacle of these wrecks and peoples misfortune.
+Tim Steinkamp Some years back on I 80 in Sacramento, I saw a old lady do that, she was in her auto shoulder belt but not her lap belt, and when she flipped her Subaru wagon and the door flew open, she went out, killed her. I think she had some medical thing that cause her to loose control on a straight hwy like she did.
Ohh God!!!! Eye roll!
Nice job !!!
I like how the authorities shut down the road for him. Don't get that driving wrecker in Montana. And that operator needs some Wreckmaster training. I hope that abuse doesn't catch up to you.
That ford is badass
Pick sides all you want, I'd be happy to have either truck. (even as smashed as that ford is, its still a nice rig.)
is this frendship ledford road?
Actually its a Hydraulic Winch Powered by the Cummins engine if you want to get technical.
ID LIKE TO KNOW THE MAKE OF THAT WINCH, BLOODY POWERFUL!!
Ramsey
Doge !!!!!!!! + ford if that ford wasn't in a crash and still good it would be like Christmas
Damn that truck got tore up
it still pulled it out
Was a nice F350.. That bites.
True - except the winch is hydraulic, not electric.
nice recovery work good job and some people think this work is easy if every in new york stop in and see us prestige towing harris n y old rt 17 at exit 102
Damn he’s good
@johncald1977 yes and snatch blocked it too would have made the job much easier on the boom and winch
I know this was 8 years ago so I hope you figured out he double lined ( 4 lined ) with a snatch block on each line hooked to the Ford. If you pause or pay attention at the begin when the winch lines are free spool you can see the snatch blocks.
Drag truck perpendicular to tow rig up steep incline with boom high = most force required on winch and tow truck, good way to catch a broken cable in the head.
When he got the Ford out of the ditch, why didn't he reposition the wrecker and pull out the Ford from the back instead of the side whereas the right side wheels of the wrecker were coming off the ground.
ya the man ronald...bud from baity tire.
A rwd truck so you want to put the rear wheels towards the tow truck right.
You can do that or pull the drive shaft.
How come no track marks. So how did he get in that position
Is it just me or did anyone else notice that the Dodge 5500 did NOT pull the F Truck out, It's electric winch did.
not bashing casue everyone has their way of doing things but i would have grabbed both drivers side tires with endles loops pulled it right up the bank sideways and on the street taken the wrecker and put it further away from the bank according to wreckmaster that truck is being overworked but he lines and the boom are within spec just seems that he could have done the recoveryt in one shot instead of re hooking the lines and re positioning the truck but either way the job got done no one was hu
okay he has a bad ass pto and hydrolic pump but if wheels come off the ground that means he doesn't have enough weight to be pulling that truck out of the ditch
That fire truck at the end of the road could pull it up all the way in 10 seconds :D
it says North Carolina on the door...
As a certified Wreckmaster, I made a promise not to publicly criticize other tow operator's actions. That being said, I recommend this tow operator contact Wreckmaster for enhanced recovery training
Rookie !! 5 min Rip out for me !!
Roy Waid your so full of shit yep it would have been a rip out where you learn your lingo Ringo lol
why doesnt he pull the truck at more of an angle instead of horizontally, is this way easier?
eric arredondo
It's not an electric winch though. It's a PTO driven hydraulic winch. just saying
great job!!!!
Well said!
painful to watch
That was a really nice truck not no more tho
man it seems like you got that Cummins idling really high! PTO sounds kinda strained.
En Guadalajara estamos los mejores operadores 🙋
judging by their voices this must have been in Cali
Good luck it even
This must have been his first recovery, with more practice he may be a decent operator someday.
kbien
When's the last time you saw a wrecker PULL anything out? That's what winches are for.
@Sykora171 more like fiberglass. not plastic
Did you notice that there no chevy in the video ?Whats the point ? Nothing , like what you said
The word "action" in the title was completely misleading
Is it just me or is the tires half flat on that truck
keep your boom low you finally fig that out at the end thata boy
to
exaacly where a ford should allways be :)
Camj
Is that an arkansas license plate?
I ain't gonna beat ya up, you got the job done BUT I would have called back for a medium. If your PD dispatch is like mine the call came in and they never mentioned that its a 1 ton dually down in the ditch.
His truck is fine for the job, but he should’ve went at this a completely different way.
Bravo
the tires would have riped the hell off the truck befor it was even moved hoss
