People often tend to only talk about how great Lee and Peart are... but Lifeson is such an amazing guitarist.
+Janne Rantanen I think we all agree the three of them kick ass. Take one of them out of Rush and they are shit.
+Janne Rantanen ALL 3 thrive as a band together fo sho.....The Ged said it best..."There is no RUSH without those guys".....period! Cheers
+Janne Rantanen Fuck ya!!! And Neil is a great lyricist!!!!
***** And Geddy is a great Bassist....so it's obvious why RUSH is THEE Best Band ....period.
+The Stuport Pink Floyd is the greatest band ever!!!!!
Huge as they were, I still believe they never got the attention they deserved.
Biggest Canadian musicians ever? They have a massive cult following and one of the most iconic rock songs ever in Tom Sawyer
brien berry
Even still, I agree with the OP. They are a legendary band that should be compared right up there with some of the greatest bands to ever walk the earth. It’s a shame that they never achieved the level of super-stardom that they deserved, but even still I’m sure they’re quite happy with the way they are now😂 such a down to earth trio. Favorite band ever, with no possible exceptions.
Attention from who? The critics? Rolling Stone? These guys packed arenas and stadiums the world over, year after year, no fucking thanks to the critics.
you mean because you just discovered Rush?
I so totally agree - in spades!!! Why? In my opinion, their music was not mainstream rock, but more progressive rock that didn't really catch on, on to the standard hard rock radio stations back in the day, with the exception of a couple of their 'radio-friendly' hits. Thank God for their massive international cult following though, that ensured they NEVER remained irrelevant.
Alex Lifeson, the most underrated rock guitarist ever - except by Rush fans. It just goes to show that critics don't know didley squat.
3 true masters of their craft🤘🏻
Spot on mate! He’s a genuine beast on that axe!
Well quite fortunately there are a lot of Rush fans
Golf Hound I would also put Joe Perry and Mark Knopfler in there as underrated
Never underated
The fact that three people can perform this live without much difficulty is just mindblowing
Making it look easy doesn’t mean it’s easy.
@@SeanVedell True, they had to practice these a lot even back in the day!
And they'll never get the respect they deserve- individually or collectively. Thank goodness they have such an active & dedicated fan base.
And after this song Lifeson was immediately arrested for murdering his guitar.
When asked for a statement he responded, " Blah blah blah...."
Underrated guitarist and comment!
Excellent!
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Hell yeah. I posted his bail so he could go murder it some more 🤪
Hahahah
Most people don't know that the town of Cleveland where the first ones to welcome Rush into the Lime Light. It was this very song( Working Man) that a DJ decided to play from an un signed band called Rush. The Town of Cleveland recognized how kick ass it was and demanded it be played, Rush was then signed and the rest is Rock N Roll history. Thank You CLEVELAND.
Fucking based. My dad (from Youngstown) told me this story. I love Rush and I love Cleveland for helping them make it big time.
Southeastern Ohio HB BBQ^ Tru Fax! DJ said she played "Working Man" every time she needed to poop.
And that DJ was none other than DONNA HALPER
Tks a lot Cleveland and this great DJ whose name I forgot.....
Cleveland? Get outta here... Just like the Tragically Hip, Rush was on the radar in Buffalo before Cleveland.
Never was big on this song until I saw this video. Holy hell Lifeson is amazing.
Holy Shit!! Lifeson played past the fretboard. Even his guitar can’t contain his incredible playing ability.
most underated guitarist in rock and roll for decades
Depends who you ask. I saw a poll (guitar world magazine I believe) who ranked him as 2nd best in the world.
But then others like myself would say Buck Dharma (Blue Öyster Cult), Paul Kossoff (Free), Glenn Buxton (Alice Cooper), and Vivian Campbell (Dio/Def Leppard) are underrated more so than Lifeson.
wow thats an honor ...no way to "rate" talent like this ...consistency regarding live performances vs sloppiness has to be a factor as cant hide live mistakes to well trained ear but then you had greats that were always high playing live that made their rep suffer like hendrix and page when we know they are genius and three piece bands without a 2nd guitarist to free up greats like schenker (ufo), hendrix, etc...that's another factor that makes lifeson so great...he performs consistently outstanding live without a 2nd guitarist as does tony iommi ..(although they both have two of the greatest bass guitarist around with geddy and gezzer)
Larry of Primus is kinda underrated as well
Tiago Lethal agree 100%
Eric Lifeson ist der Gitarist von Rush und damit Einzigartig.
I can honestly say i was there.Took my youngest son.It was his 1st concert ever. After the show i asked him, well what did you think? He said "it was the greatest day of my life"!..:)
There is definitely hope for the next generation! Cheers!
My son's first concert when he was about 8 was Midge Ure, the second a week later was The Stranglers. Sadly I never got to see Rush.
no cussing,no booze,no masks or make up.real music.period.
Amen
Rush's greatness is right up there with Zeppelin. Every member of the band is a Legend, and they're all incredibly humble. You can tell they love playing together, it's so awesome to see.
Silence. The gods are playing.
Where do you see Kings X...I thought this was RUSH...Actually KX fucking worshiped RUSH...I was just playing on the fact that KX would be the closest other band in the business that has this kind of talent...
Leonardo Silva Borges tru dat!
😇🙌💓💣💥🌠⛼🌌🎸🎶🎵🎼🎸🎤🎹🥁🔊🔊🔊
Of course.
I was not expecting it to be played like this...lmao This band is a gift to Humanity ! R..I.P Professor
This is my favorite version of the song.
"I can't pretend a stranger is a long lost friend" -Neil Peart. But I do know what a Rock hero and legend is. R.I.P. Professor.
long-awaited
yup,my bad.
Man, I’m only 29 and I actually cried hearing the news. I went over to my parents house that night and my dad and I watched Rush videos for fucking hours and hours all night. I cried again, my brother cried, my dad cried, and I’m so thankful God put that MF’er on this planet to make millions of us smile. RIP Neil Peart, love ya buddy
Philip Suprise I'm not a crier at all for is my dad but I told him and you'd of thought I just shot his dog by the look on his face, I think he was waiting and hoping for some punchline to make it not true.
@@fieldfairy9845 yup man. Im only 28 and that hit hard
The best thing about Rush is they never cared about being the best even though they were.
And that absolutely showed in their music and their lives. Which only earned them even more undying respect from their fans.
The best at what? If you think they are the best band ever then I pity you.
@@chrischamberlain2168ok I will take the bait, who do you think has more talent than Rush?
@@toddkorbusieski111 how do you define talent? I have heard the three members of Rush described as virtuosos and I would not dispute that. However, to me, rock music is more than just technical ability. If we are talking just technical ability, then Satriani, Vai and Malmsteen are all technically better guitarists then Lifeson. However, there music does nothing for me. My favourite band are The Beatles and they were not virtuosos but wrote a lot of classic songs. My friend is a massive fan of Rush but I can’t get past Geddy Lee’s voice. To Rush fans, they are a great band but I prefer Led Zeppelin whose influence far surpasses Rush. Jimi Hendrix had a recording career of four years and he is a legend due to the amount of classic songs he recorded in that short space of time. Would Rush be remembered if they were around for four years?
@@chrischamberlain2168 You bring up many valid points that I wholeheartedly agree with. I too love the Beatles as I grew up with them and think folks like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Doors and Animals had huge influences on rock music. If Rush just had 4 years they probably would not but that is part of what makes them so great. They lasted as a band and friends for 40 years without any of the drama that you see from almost every other band. Longevity and selling out arenas also counts and they did that throughout their career. At its most basic though I just love the lyrics and the music which for any band is purely subjective. Good talking to you. Have a great Holiday.
Holy crap...that jam in the middle is legendary-level.
Chris Ducat well said.
I've watched this so many times and it still amazes me. The tempo's fast; they're playing fast, yet they don't sound frantic or rushed at all. They're so together and tight. It just blows me away.
Chris Ducat
Looks like the laundry finished in time for the jam.
That was flipping amazing
Not to mention the musical quote used at the end. That was another piece of utter brilliance!
thank you Cleveland for giving a little known Canadian band a chance when no one else would
back in the 70s',
yours truly,
Canada
Indeed
And that ladies and gentlemen is why RUSH is the best band ever!
Except they're not.
@@christophermullaley1597 Who's better?
gardens up pink Floyd
Inosuke Hashibira you’re joking right?
Deez nope. Rush is great but Pink Floyd is better imo.
Alex Lifeson!!!!
Quite arguably the single most underrated guitarist on the planet....
The class....
He isn't underrated, it's just that some people wouldn't know a great guitarist if they got bit on the ass by a great guitarist. Hell Eddie Van Halen was once asked what it was like to be the best guitar player in the world, and his reply was "ask Alex Lifeson".
Some bands are great in the studio and suck onstage. Some bands are great in the studio and even better on stage.
The Alt Science Channel True. Like Rush!
Some bands are just great . ! You could put rush in a vacuum cleaner and they would still be greatness !
Like Pink Floyd
Queen is pretty much the definition of that. They're great on album, but even better live
I had the honor of seeing rush live many times in the 70s. Always was an awesome performam've that left my ears ringing for hours.
God, that transition from Reggae to Prog Rock gives me chills...
To Hard Rock!
That was not prog rock, that was kick ass straight up rock.
Saw them New Years eve Toronto, Maple Leaf Gardens, 1976, doing this song. Knew they were going to make it big.
Literally the tightest musicianship of any band
I first picked up a guitar when i was 13 in 1974.This man was one of my greatest inspirations. I am 57 and still rocking. And this is still one of the greatest bands ever.
Brave Heart ...
I was 7 in '74 and the same except for some weird reason I'm only going on 53
. I had an uncle who owned a music shop & i started playing at age five . Working man was the first 'real' song i ever learned , by real I mean that it wasn't in a beginners book like hot cross buns or some shit . Alex Lifeson is my earliest influence besides George Harrison and he (Alex) totally shaped my sound, style and phrasing . Lol I think your math is off dude or you don't know how old you are lol 🤣😂🤣
Neils drum kit cost more than my house.
I laughed at that one!
Winterstick549 Mine too
You have a house? Sweet livin' right there......
Good 1 my bro still smiling best fuck n song ever ✋ s down
I emailed DW one day on a whim and asked if they had to put a dollar value on Neil's kit, how much was it? They actually replied and said it was worth about $50,000, including all the hardware. I would venture an educated guess that the cymbals would add about another $4000.
If someone asks “who are rush” show them this performance, which literally captures everything that makes this band legendary.
The whole performance is incredible, but pay attention from 5:30 and Neil reaction at 5:47 when he look at Alex. Yes we rule man !!! RIP Neil Peart.
RIP NEIL PEART, the man, the legend, the best.
The Professor.
The best three piece in rock history!!
This face says "WTF is going on over there?" 3:33
Nemo Job cream ,
@Lil' Wayne's guitar teacher are you freaking serious dude???
@Lil' Wayne's guitar teacher ZZ Top? Better than Rush? I don't think so. And Cream? Why'll they are great, they are no Rush. Rush had some of the greatest musicianship in a band I've ever seen, they got along with each other remarkably well and I personally think each member is more talented than their Cream counterpart. Call me crazy, but I think it's true.
Lil' Wayne's guitar teacher ah yes go on a rush video just to differ with people
Peart = Professor
Lee = Maestro
Lifeson = Magician
Rush rules...forever & ever & ever....& ever....In the annals of history, they 'will always be there' as one of the best knit group of musicians playing & composing some of the finest 'music to the ears'.
Me= Air guitar, Air bass & air drums like a MoFo, and hit every lick, Ya
3 Monsters 🎵🎼🎶🎸😎👊
3 monsters yes. Ciao da Roma.. long live to rush
Lifesons solo gives me goose bumps! One of the best guitar player
The GOAT
Best thing about Rush is no matter what era they were playing, they always looked like the enjoyed playing live the exact same amount. Even as old dudes, it’s never a cringe fest with them trying to look like old dudes rocking. They are just old dudes who love playing.
Damn. Lifeson just goes nuts here.
+Ross “BeerIsBest” Childs Smiles...Vintage Rush.. The Boys always deliver The Goods!! Cheers
+Ross “BeerIsBest” Childs Agrees...Bat Shit Crazy without the mess!! Cheers
Ross Childs he's shredding!
Ross Childs I'm thinking the whole crew kicks the shit outta their tools of the trade great intensity 🎸🎸🔊🔊😎😎
That guy has a few screws loose. LOL.
LOL love the opening. Working Man meets the Police's Walking On The Moon.
That's hilarious. Nice comparison.
Elvis Costellos watching the detectives
Damn so good.
I know, right? I was thinking, "Hey, this sounds like 'Working Man' if The Police wrote it.".
Lifeson...what can you say? This old guy shredds the shit out of anyone I've ever seen yesterday or today! SO CREATIVE!
One will be hard pressed to find a better performance than this one. A band nonpareil and arguably the greatest 3-piece band in rock history. Neil, Alex and Geddy are syncing to perfection. What a treat for Cleveland! We shall not see Rush's like again.
Alex Lifeson reviving his youth years, he was on fire
Old Geddy's voice sounds great with reggae
+Francisco Jumpstyle BASS GUITAR MASTER!!!!!!
When he did the cover of Crossroads for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I thought his voice fit in wonderfully with it. I know that his voice now had to adjust and compensate for many of their older songs since he's older. The last couple of albums they did were great cause they worked around how his voice changed. If there's a strength this band had, it was adjusting their music to the times in the right way (and that includes Geddy's voice changing).
Now, 2016, they are retiring from touring :-( . The guys are in their 60s and Neil's definitely feeling the wear. I think it is a sound choice to make. These guys have done what they love for nearly 50 years (1968 was the year Rush was conceived), and have gotten successful enough from it to live comfortably for the rest of their lives. They leave behind a great legacy to rock music and a wonderful catalog.
For a fun little segue, I wonder if Krieger will address the retirement in the next season of Archer...
Ya mon!
Francisco Thérès pearl jam
pearl jam
How cool is it that they get to say Thank You to Cleveland for launching their amazing career with the song that launched their career......? Another reason to love Rush.
Isn't it incredible that such an amazing guitarist the least known person in the band
Eddie VanHalen was asked what is it like to be one of the greatest guitarists of all , He responded I do not know ask Alex L from Rush ,
People hear with their eyes. Musicians hear with their ears. LES PAUL said that. So true. Real players know who the great ones are. Alex rocks
Bah, shame on those who thought that playing bass was easy... look at Geddy Lee' fingers!
AA H they must be harder than diamonds
Geddy’s picking technique bass drives me crazy! As a bass player you are not taught to use your right hand to pick like that but Geddy is so damn accurate!
These guys have nothing to prove anymore, individually without any doubt they are the most gifted band members in the history of Rock n Roll.
Taking a 4 min song , Starting it with a Reggae tune then going into a heavy rock tune then a crazy Jam with a mind blowing Guitar solo from Alex and then finishing it in style.
RUSH RUUUUUULES.
i think this is the best rock song ever written
too powerful to be a 3 piece band, too technical to be rock musicians, too old to be this energetic and too high to believe them to be humans.
Dear lord how on earth could you thumbs down this? Boggles the mind, as does this version of working man. Saw this in Cleveland live and it still gives me goosebumps.
They're just the hippies from the 80s who thought they were too cool for Rush
No one touches rush talent wise& musicianship wise, rush is the ultimate hard rock band!!!!!The greatest band ever!!!
@@Branflakes1522 I'm a hippy and I mother f ing love Rush. Excuse my cuss
RIP Neil. 40 yr drummer here. He was one of my greatest influences. Tears in my eyes today.
We RUSH fans know who the greatest drummer, guitarist, and bass player ever are and were, don't we?
@MagmaAdminSilver Jeremy It's not in question that RUSH was influenced by Led Zep, splitting hairs as to which individual artist is better than the other serves no purpose. Wasted energy.
MagmaAdminSilver Jeremy how desperate are you for attention that you have to go on a rush video to differ with people
If you're here in 2021, it means you have a good musical taste.
The best guitar player.
The best bass player.
The best drummer.
Period.
You hard?
What about the best singer?
You forgot best lyricist too !!
There’s Rush and Led Zeppelin.......
Then there’s everyone else. Untouchable
Add Pink Floyd up there to the Gods
Cleveland DOES indeed rock!!!
1:26 I love how they take it from calm reggae to full on rock and roll mode
Even more amazing - this is AFTER those three guys, all in the 60s, had already been playing for hours. The energy Rush could put out was fucking unreal.
Oh, man. Those gentlemen can still bring the thunder.
Good Lord !! 3 humans at the top of their game jamming! Amazing.
From Toronto, thank you Cleveland for giving these
guys the air play when no one else would when they we’re starting, it’s because of you that they became so recognized in the states.
Can't believe this song is 40 years old.
Mike Parzyck I can’t believe this either.
This song is 50 years old and still kicking ass
Can't believe this comment is 5 years old.
And sadly RUSH is over but the memories will never die. Thank you Neil, thank you Geddy & thank you Alex. The amount of love & passion you 3 poured into music goes well beyond the speed of sound. Neil, rest easy, you are nw with your daughter & wife. So sad you are gone
I love the crowd reaction at about 1:25 when they transition out of the alternative opening into the more traditional heavy sound of the song... They got what they wanted the rest of the way and then some!
Never in the history of this earth will there ever be a band so talented as RUSH !!! I have listened to them since Moving Pictures and have been a huge fan ever since , seen them once in KC , great live , perfect sound . RIP Neil Peart !!!
THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST AWESOME EPIC BEAUTIFUL AMAZING THINGS IVE EVER SEEN AND HEARD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!! I AM ALMOST CRYING AT HOW AMAZING THAT WAS!!!!! I HAD GOOSEBUMPS NEAR THE END!!!! THIS VIDEO DESERVES 54,734,723,864,213 LIKES!!!!!!!! OOHH MYYY GOOSSHHH!!!!!!! ROCK ON RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I regret I only have ONE like to give... but it is a HUGE LIKE!
I cry my self to sleep knowing I will never get to see them live
Seen them many times, but not enough. Took my son to his first Rush concert, not realizing but suspecting it might be the last chance, so glad I did!
This has got to be in the top ten all time moments of rock and roll no doubt in the matter......🤟RUSH🤟
Alex looking like he got 20 years younger during that solo. I'm so grateful I got to see them before they retired.
This is instant classic. Geddy is just freaking amazing.
As a bass player I agree. I was first influenced by Geddy in 1976 and over time became quite proficient playing Rush songs. At my peak I could even play with his speed with good accuracy. But I was never able to cross that line of virtuosity that Geddy always displayed. Many are born to play, some are born to play very well and one was born Geddy Lee.
5:48 Peart was sayin fuck yea!
That heavy chord at 5:24 into Geddy's last awesome note. What a wonderful moment in rock
RIP Neil. One of the baddest drummers on the planet. Heavens band just got more bad ass
Sadly he was atheist
@@bilbobaggins4710 No, I believe that Neil was an agnostic. BIG difference. As big as you can get. Hopeful that Neil chose belief above all. Possible up to final moment. RIP Neil.
@@bilbobaggins4710 I've heard that too. But I know for sure he was a big fan of freedom and fought against tyranny in his lyrics.
@@charleshutton284 well I think the song faithless pretty much summed up his position. I doubt he chose belief.
These three men, are just simply exceptional (RIP Neil), I regret not attending a performance when I had a chance to do so. I'm glad they did film some of their performances.
The "Holy Fuck, Alex!!!" moment, from 3:20 onward
The greatest trifecta in music history
Absolutely stunning
Un-f*cking believable!
We all fail to grasp just how incredible these three guys are.
NOW, after they are retired, we still think that they are a staggeringly awesome band
just dont have bands like this anymore.....just awesome
David Ringo yes we have
And what bands come close to Rush?
yes please tell us
@@dimitarfiliuca1765 can you name one band from this generation that even compares?

I was at this concert. I'd been to many Rush concerts before and they played Working Man. But on this night in Cleveland, this night, they really gave it their all. Stood there in amazement as Alex shredded that guitar. One of the best concert moments I had ever witnessed!
Three of the greatest musicians that ever lived
I've watched this at least a hundred times. It never gets old.
Best version of this song.... ever... I lose my shit EVERY time they break from reggae back into the normal style.
Sir Duke I love how they start out as quiet reggae, then suddenly they say “forget the clutch and slam it into full on into rock ‘n’ roll gear
Alex was getting really into the solo on this one! Love it!
So, 40 year ago I write this song when I'm a kid, and then, I get to transport myself into the future and see myself play my song after I have many 10's of thousands of hours of playing and practice with my bandmates. That folks is a Time Machine worth taking. What a performance. Everyone in the band is so much better. Alex's subtle playing. Neil's drumming (fully recognizing it's not his song), and Getty -- his bass lines are incredible yet his vocals shine -- no more screaming - he enunciates each word. So beautiful.
How a band can go from Marley to Black Sabbath in a few bars is absolutely outstanding.
I think their jam/solo was the best they've ever done while playing Working Man. Holy shit. Freaking killer version!
Psychotic.
PERIOD.
I get major chills every time I watch this
Cleveland loved Rush & Rush loved 'em right back.
Over 40 years of performing, these dudes still got it.
There will never be a band as awesome as Rush.
Three men at work
Rush is the main reason the universe is always expanding. It's still unable to contain that much kick-ass music from only 3 people
Damn, that performance is simply orgasmic, nothing less... So sad their music would not be heard live anymore but hey, I had the chance to live in the same era, that was a privilege.
You need a fret to play a magnificent guitar solo.
Alex Lifeson : Hold my two-four, eh?
I was at the concert. Alex tore it up like he was in his 20's. What a great moment! What a great concert!
Three of the most talented in rock history. Drums, bass, guitar. No questions.
The dudes are from another planet. We miss ya, Neil.
Shred doesn't even begin to describe what Alex does here with his guitar.
Wow, this has to be one of their best performances ever playing that song. You often see them very composed on stage but here, maaaaan that bend at 4:19. Just look at Alex's expression!!! And after that when they separate you can see Geddy saying EVERYTHING with his face. And the final boxing pose from Neil. You seldom see people getting only better with age.
Happy Birthday to me. Thankyou guys. You are awesome, been with you a long number of years. Thankyou for every moment.
I finally broke down and cried, 6:09AM Friday January 17th. Goodbye Neil RIP
During that guitar solo, my god, man. This is why they're legendary.
We're only immortal for a limited time

There's only 2 bands that ROCK LIKE THIS. U2 and Rush.... and Rush has them beat them by a LANDSLIDE
