  • Here's another one from spring 2020. Gavin Harrison's Rhythmic Illusions contains lots of challenging ideas.
    On page 13 you see the so-called 16th note displacement scale: a simple 4/4 rhythm gradually shifts one 16th note forward, until 16 bars later it returns to it initial form.
    I found it helpful to put a constant 4/4 loop over it to better illustrate the displacement effect. The loop was made on the go in GarageBand with bass line playing in unison with the initial bass drum/snare pattern and guitar playing every offbeat 16th note.
