This was very helpful and informative. Loved the field test part! Only questions left were if the field test was hi or low beam? And what was the difference between the 2?
This is an awesome video. Thanks for doing all this research. It should be noted that it is very easy to use one of the halogen headlights that's using a projector lens and simply swap the bulbs to HID or LED. I think many of the cheaper housings that come with halogen bulbs would jump to higher performance levels right away by doing this. So it's not necessary to buy the most expensive ones on the list. You can over come CANBUS issues with a simple resistor on your positive wire to make HIDs work if you all you had to start with was halogens.
Just gotta put this out there, wait for it Chris...I CAN'T THANK YOU GUYS ENOUGH FOR DOING THIS KIND OF HEADLIGHT COMPARISON AND ACTUALLY INCLUDING ALPHAREX HEADLIGHTS!!! Although I don't own a truck, let alone a Raptor or an F-150, this video was still incredibly entertaining because the light sources in each headlight (LED projectors in particular) is what I'm after for my own headlight retrofit. I was surprised to see though, how good the Recon came in compared to the Alpharex and even beat the Morimoto in brightness?! Anyways, waiting for more vids like this with headlights from other rigs in the same format w/Alpharexes included in the showdown. Thanks again!
Why wouldn't the Recon headlight beat the Alpha Rex? People seem to forget that HID is still king for light output. LED is getting closer every day but they're not there yet. To call the LED headlights maintenance free is pure bull. I've seen plenty of LED bulbs and assemblies go bad. What matters is the customer service and warranty that the manufacturer offers.
Glad we could get that going for you, and that you found this information useful! It is crazy when you see how these headlights perform against each other, and we will try to do more of these for you guys!
Those HIDs are a fantastic option even today, so they hold their own against those LEDs for sure! When it comes to that warranty, you really can't beat the Morimoto XB LEDs, as they come with that 5-year warranty, and you can have them replaced directly through Morimoto!
Great video! Thank you. Whats most helpful was how the field shot demonstrates how wide the beam pattern spreads. With the stock HIDs at night, its difficult to see while turning. The morimotos shows that its much wider which will be helpful for night driving and helps make the right decision amongst the aftermarket headlights. Thanks again! Great vid!
It's a great review BUT I noticed you were comparing OEM HID bulbs to aftermarket halogen bulbs as well. Don't all halogen bulbs have less max LUX than an HID bulb? I would have liked to see a more apples to apples review. Different housing, same bulb technology. THEN you can say one housing is better than another because it's the only variable. Right? Or am I crazy? I mean, changing OEM halogen reflector housings to LED or HID no matter the housing is an upgrade. Great info on beam pattern and beam width! This is definitely info I would have loved before buying mine. It would have saved me lots of research time!
Just bought some Raxiom head light housing's and tail lights with built in led's then bought led bulbs for the head lights. honestly they might not be as nice as the one's you have here but believe me, they are better than the pitted, faded and cracked stock lights.
My my question is with the halogen headlights, such as the Anzo, what would the output and results be if the bulbs were changed to LED bulbs of the same length and size
Actually... I do have a question. You were really highlighting the quality of the Xb but not the Xb Hybrid. Any particular reason why? Having purchased Anzo headlights for my 08 4Runner SE and noticing annoying quality issues, I'll get the Xb over the Hybrid if there is a significant difference. Personally, I like the design of the Hybrid. And I don't see the Hybrid on your site?

OEM halogens will be at the very bottom of the performance list, along with a few cheap knock-off headlights. In comparison, the Morimotos would be 3-4x brighter than OEM.
Why does my left turn signal SOMETIMES "hyperflash" on my '13 F-150 Platinum equipped w/MORIMOTO FULL LED XB's & RECON LED tail lights? Have had lights for 18mos. Thanks for the comment. Shot us an email at Sales@headlightrevolution.com and we can go into more detail wit you.
How do these compare to the non hid oem lights
OEM halogens will be at the very bottom of the performance list, along with a few cheap knock-off headlights. In comparison, the Morimotos would be 3-4x brighter than OEM.
Why does my left turn signal SOMETIMES "hyperflash" on my '13 F-150 Platinum equipped w/MORIMOTO FULL LED XB's & RECON LED tail lights?
Have had lights for 18mos.
The other day had "hyperflashing" on my right turn signal. Now fine.
It comes & goes...by itself.
NO other light mods or electrical accessories installed.
You would need to reach out to our CS team to troubleshoot this issue!

The top 4 were all led housings. Were ther any hid options that outperformed the stock lights?
We only tested LED options!
Do we know know what the 2013 stock halogen measures in Lux?
OEM Halogen Low Beam: 240 Max Lux
OEM Halogen High Beam: 420 Max Lux
OEM HID Low Beam: 480 Max Lux
OEM HID High Beam: 650 Max Lux
@HeadlightRevolution thank you... can you also tell me the difference from lux to lumens?
Do they come with bulbs or are you tested these headlight assembly with a certain bulb?
Got a Like 10 months later…. Already bought the lights 8 months ago..
Can you do a video like this for the 2015 to 17 year
Maybe in the future!
I just want to replace my HID housing. My are starting to flake
I think I messed up and ordered regular f150 headlights they fit my raptor but the connectors don't fit the bulb the headlight holds.
You'll need to reach out to customer service to have them swapped!
On the alpha red pro, how did you get the low beam and the high beam to light at the same time?
I am not sure on that, they did that when we plugged them in. It may be due to our power supply, but I am not 100% sure on that. Sorry about that!
Do the upgraded LED headlights come with the cables to be connected to the Fuse box?
They do! This powers the DRL.
No I'm just waiting for morimoto to make a matching set of taillights
Right!
Is any of these street legal?
Do you have a similar review for the 2016 generation?
Not at this time, sorry!
With the AlphaRex pro series, can you change the Halogen bulb out for a LED?
Sure can!
@@HeadlightRevolution thank you for the reply!
What size wheel and tire combo is on that Raptor?
😂
👀
@@HeadlightRevolution I had already made my decision on the Morimoto XB headlights for my personal rig after watching this video and, when I originally made this comment, was in the market for wheels and tires. Looked sharp.

At 4:00 why does it look like the cubes aren't on like at 10:00 in the Alpha Rex?
They weren't on in that picture at 4:00, but they are on later in the video! Obviously they were on when we tested them though, just not in that picture of just the headlights. Sorry for the confusion!
How badly does the person coming the opposite way get blinded?
How do I know if the first set are compatible to my truck?

Hi I what’s to know which one is the best?
The results are in the video! (:
How do I adjust the dual brightness drl? Mine are too dim. Morimoto xb
Unfortunatly, the DRL brightness is not adjustable.
I have the anzos and the wires corroded
Oof! 😅
The Alpha Rex is bright but they’re ugly to me
Something tells me halogen bulbs will outlast the leds. Leds always seem to fail. A halogen can last 20 years
Halogens sure do last a long time, but most of the LEDs we sell come with a lifetime warranty so what's the difference? 😅🙌🏻
@@HeadlightRevolution that's good because they'll probably need it
5:22 Why isn't the drl on? Is this a common thing?
This was a screengrab from our video, most likely the turn signal was on and the top bar is off during that. An oversight from our video team. No issues with the DRLs!
Does the Morimoto XB plug and play if my 2011 f150mdoesnt have factory projector headlights? Mine came with just normal non projector headlights
Still plug and play!
