Just to educate you a tiny bit, the south/coast lines that would experience a hurricane actually making landfall would never be able to have a basement due to the water table being so high. (The elevations could also affect this.) To prepare for a hurricane we would leave (evacuate) if it is over a 2+, sandbag to help water not come inside and board up windows if you do not have storm shutters. Also we would pay attention to what time it will hit the coast line as the high tide/ low tide will determine the water levels as well. I hope this helps!
Not many basements in Australia. The roof space is not meant to be used for storage but many people do it. The issue is if you have a fire and your house burns down, insurance will try and say that you storing stuff in the roof was an accelerant and will try not to pay out. Like our roof area doesn't have an inbuilt ladder and most roof spaces aren't big enough to stand up in. Oh and they have cross beams the whole way through them. We do also generally only have a central area we can walk on, which is sometimes a wider plank, but not much.

When watching/listening these on a phone, the folks from court are really quiet so I have pump up the volume and then suddenly you start talking and it breaks the phone and my ears cause it comes out super freaking loud.. don't take this yhe wrong way, I love watching/listening these and hearing your commentary but the audio balance issue is absolutely horrendous!! 🌹❤️

Houses in the north of Australia often are built on 'stilts' because of possible flooding. I'm in the south in the country; most houses have no basement. There's an older "American style" 1900s house with a basement here in my town.
I wish more people understood that they can make their own schedule, document it, and file it with the court AND you don’t even have to follow it as long as you both agree with modifications. The court is there to handle disputes, not minutiae 🤓

If you are hunkering down at home, and it's getting really bad, you retreat to a bathtub. And if the floodwaters come (often afterwards) you get on the roof. Many people wouldn't be able to get out of the attic once in it.
