I remember watching this with the family a year ago and my younger sisters couldn't believe they let a young girl just jump into a stranger guys car for a ride. I am not sure if that was a thing back then but that baffled them the entire movie.
Milner has said in interviews he wasn't comfortable with that plotline, and even today he thinks it should have been an older girl. But it works well in the movie....
Making the girl under age was genius, it was totally what every young girl wanted to do in the sixties ! Jump in and cruise in the hottest car on the strip 😁 And naturally every guy wanted to be Milner. Great movie, great music.
It definitely was. Hitchhiking was more normal and excepted, and in those simpler times people didn't really lock their doors and let their kids out wondering the streets all day and night. Times changed and these practices stopped for obvious reasons.
