With all due respect to Nique, MJ, Vince, Blake Griffin, Lebron - the greatest in-game dunker ever is Shawn Kemp. It's not about just the physical act of the dunk - it was the total package of this lanky but ripped dude that could jump out of the gym at 6'10 and who also had this style that has never been replicated. The way he used to land after a dunk like he was spiderman, I mean there is just something nobody else has had before or after. His dunks had nicknames - "the Lister Blister" dunk is still to this day the most savage dunk ever seen on a pro basketball court. A full body extension stuff that sent a 7'0 240 guy flying into the courtside seats with the spiderman landing then hitting him with the double lazer point and pump. The GOAT, there is no better.

LOL Kemp can't shoot? He was a good midrange shooter, what you smoking. He was no Pippen but he was known as a good defender.
"There's a long list of guys today just as athletic as Kemp, they just have more skill."
Have to disagree with this too. I agree there are lots of athletic guys, but "more skill" not really. If anything players lack a lot of fundamentals these days, especially big men.
Also his PPG wasn't a reflection of his ability. The system George Karl ran on those Sonics teams was really distributed attack, they had a lot of double digit scorers on the roster and did a lot of run and gun rather than pounding it into the paint. Both he and Payton averaged 18-20 ppg in that system. Once Karl left you'll notice Payton's shot attempts and PPG went up, as well as minutes.

Guys act like the 80s/90s were 100 years ago. Lmao it's was 20-30 years ago. These basketballer players are the same athletes. The rule chamges truly watered down the defense in basketball. You can't even breathe today without getting a tech. Jordan terrorized tough Zones in the 80s and averaged 37 PPG on 53% shooting. People really think he couldn't average 45-50 a night with almost no contact nowadays. The 90s was the greatest era of basketball.

Apart from Jordan, Shawn's highlights are the most entertaining & exciting to watch for me!!
His style (in the air above all, through the rim) looked as MJ's, the few fadeaways he made also had that look.
Sad that he lacked the focus to be consistent and to strive for development as player, I think he would have been a great otherwise.

Huge basketball fan here since '94. with proper respect for new and old, but people just don't effortlessly glide through defenses nowadays. Kemp is very unique. Averaged 23/10/2 on 55% FG against the toughest team ever in the Finals. Top 5 PF all time.

MY FAVORITE PLAYER OF ALL TIME!!!!! Man I miss the Sonic’s and this era of basketball. He really went from just dunking to a legit all around threat (except 3’s) but that’s what you wanted from a power forward at the time. Big mistake by Seattle when they traded him, smh.

In the 90s Shawn flew to Greece. Shawn had a good time. Shawn had a child. That Child was adopted by a loving famiy. That child went through hard times and made it back to USA 20 years later. That child got drafted into the NBA. That child won every award to be won in the NBA... that Child became the Champion this year. That child was Giannis.

Payton to Kemp called by Kevin Calabro…good times in Seattle. It’s a shame the team couldn’t get a few championships in its prime but Karl couldn’t figure out how to translate the regular season success to the playoffs when the defenses tightened up and could scheme for the sonics in an extended series.

Shawn Kemp, Tim and Penny Hardaway, Gary Payton, Dan Majerle, Glenn Rice, Larry Johnson, Glenn Robinson, Mark Price, Kevin Johnson, Toni Kukoc should be in the hall of fame before Tracy McGrady and Dino Radja.
    Glad Mitch Richmond inducted.
