The diabolical 'drums in the rear channels' is from the QUAD 8-Track days. 1970's car set-ups had the superior 6"X9" speakers on the rear window package shelf. The small front speakers usually had a weak bass response. So some producers decided to mix the bass & drums to the rear.
As you may know, For The Roses was never released in classic Quadraphonic, it was mixed especially for this release, which may explain why this and the Atmos mix are very similar. It's a great set & a Quad reissue has been on my list for a long time !
I really like the QUAD mixes, they seem to be more discreet as I remember the Q8's of the 70s . I have brought my MARANTZ 4400 back to life, which I had purchased new back in the day. The QUADS from DUTTON are nothing less than incredible ! Mike, have you heard anything about the Robin Tower BRIDGE OF SIGHS release being pushed back till early June ?

Thank you for another good review. I’m a fan of hers but my wife is a super fan so I bought this mainly for her so, I am now holding the hissing of Summer in my hand and I am bout to put it on , first the Atmos mix then the quad mix, Once again thanks for your review.
I love this set ❤ it’s wonderful to have two spatial options for each album and your review gave very helpful suggestions for initial navigation 👍 I still have much to discover, what a delight 🙏🔆
I’m just getting started. I have a classic 5 speaker setup with 2 subs. For Court and Spark, I strongly prefer the quad mix to the Atmos mix in my folded down system. Not even close.
On a side note/tip, I was listening to the Doobies Quadio over the weekend & lamenting the fact that I needed to fire up my big screen to select the 4 channel mix on those blurays when I prefer not to have the distraction of the graphics. Then I discovered the Pure Audio button on my remote, which blanks the screen instantly without powering the display off and on as discs are changed. (I might leave it on for those cool Gentle Giant animations on their recent editions, though.)
@@lifeinsurround So I have 7.1. Do I just need to add the additional 4 channels amp and speakers? Have you made a video on this? If so, I have overlooked it.

for me the physical media is better than apple music.

Gentle Giant usually deliver dope-ass graphics! Free Hand in Atmos is a desert island disc, for me. Steven Wilson, FTW.

Thank you! And yes, Atmos plays just fine on my OPPO (BDP-103). Atmos also works on my Sony X800.
