I can't believe how many Kpop Fans forget that SNSD's biggest "enemy" wasn't Wondergirls nor 2NE1. It was KARA. Their japanese fanbase was HUGE for back then. SNSD themself said that they were afraid of KARA
it depends on what country they have strong fan base eg t-ara in china, 2ne1 in southeast asia and other countries in west asia, europe and north, central and south america, wonder girls same as 2ne1
@@rejeylola It doesn't matter what the real "enemy" od SNSD. As matter, the legend GG 2nd gen is WOSOKA + 2NE1
@@IcePrince9876 I think wonkaso..wonder girls, kara, snsd.. because Heo Young Ji was said that in variety show
This comment is stupid. Wonder Girls, 2NE1, and Kara all gave SNSD a run for their money at times and was major competition. All 3 groups were SNSD’s biggest “enemy” and SNSD was their biggest “enemy”. Idk why you’re trying to rewrite history but let’s be serious.
@@MusicChanneI1738 SNSD even said themself that they feared KARA the most
KARA being so popular in Japan is an understatement. Like, Girls Generation were popular in Japan, but KARA surpassed that. With their recent comeback, I've been enjoying their appearances on Japanese tv as well. It's so cool seeing them perform "When I Move" and "Mister" with all the members.
They even had an Anime, Kara was super huge.
i love how they treated this recent comeback as an actual comeback and not just a reunion! when it was originally announced i figured they'd just drop a single and an MV, do a week of music show promos and a few korean variety. But their promos have lasted several months and are occuring in korea and japan... considering how Youngji is the only one under DSP/RBW, the level of coordination that this took for the other members and their companies is quite impressive
They used to be my one of the early girl groups that i stan after Girls Generation and 2NE1. Rest in peace Goo Hara. ♥️
Same!!!!!
Same
Same!
You can tell they had a big impact cause a couple idols that saw them at mama 2022 were excited that they performed
kep1ar went crazy for them and all of them are teenagers so it was very cool to see idols who never saw KARA in their prime acknowledge them like that
It has me wheezing every time when Gyuri says "First time I saw Hara she looked like a delicate little doll~!" and then Hara just goes "No sis I specifically remember you calling me a fish 🐟"
i remember a scene from a variety show where all the members called Gyu-ri the most beautiful and then Gyu-ri said she brainwashed all of them
KARA's 15th-anniversary comeback is everything. With everything that the group went through I never thought I would get to see them on stage again. They are as strong as ever and proving once again why they deserve the top girl group spot.
As a 2nd gen stan thank you for never forgetting these iconic groups! I’ll never forget when I heard Rock U for the first time the melody and their vocals are just so good! It was so perfect to listen to especially as a teen. And I remember when I first saw Goo Hara I was mesmerized by her beauty. AND their Japanese songs are just as good if not better than the Korean ones. Sadly Step was the last time I followed them and then I got out of kpop. Goo haras death still makes me sad because she was failed by society. I hope more current fans of kpop can listen to Kara through this video!
KARA is one of those groups where I am so fortunate to have become a Kpop stan during the second generation (2010 to be exact).
Even though I never quite followed them too closely, they always had my respect. I was a causal listener. Couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve put Lupin on repeat in 2010 and their Japanese album in 2012. 😭
Also, Hara deserved so much better. Endless ridicule and the passing of Sulli took a toll on her. Even now, idols need to better protection from those around them and seeing how this generation is getting younger and younger, there needs to be implemented into society and the idol industry.
why did you get out of kpop?
Kara also changed the spirit of failed debut groups. They made other girl groups think they still have hope even if their debuts are failed.
Honestly, it is just nice to see Youngji get treated well, the way she should have been when she first joined KARA. It shouldn't have taken this damn long but I'm glad she finally got it.
I'm also glad all 5 managed to get through the that difficult subject of Hara not being there but... we're okay. Things are fine Hara, rest well. ❤
I agree. It shouldn’t have take this long for Youngji to get the recognition and respect she deserves and the acknowledgement that she *is* part of KARA. Seeing how happy she was to be reunited with her group really does it for me. Truly warms my heart!
And HARA will always be in our hearts. 🙏🏻❤
I got into kpop in early 2009, right at the inception of 2nd gen hallyu wave. Kara was one of MANY GG i heavily stanned back then.
I cried like a baby when i say their 15th anniversary comeback.
Kara is a legend! I still cry sometimes remembering Hara. She was such a huge part of Kara. RIP. Fighting!
This year was such a great year, big bang came back, 2ne1 had a reunion, snsd came back with alot of promotion, sistar came back, exid came back and kara came back with this banger as a full group and had alot of variety. so proud of them, especially my girls snsd and kara. they all stood the test of time proving that a group can still be of relevance even after so many years. cant forget those groups who are still very active even till this day like shinee. hopefully one day, groups like f(x) can reunite and give us a hit.
also sistar
@@rejeylola omg yah thanks for reminding ill edit my comment 🙏🙏🙏
@@megosaur. i will add to that, 2nd gen idol/actress bae suzy (bae suji) of miss a back as an artist after 5-7 years, definitely 2022 is a golden year for 2nd generation groups and idols, this year, 2023 kara will be back in japan for their concert/fan service, shinee also, 2ne1 sandara park as an artist after she sang 2 movie ost of one step in song of memory with hae jaesuk and one step nearly 6 years ago, despite she done a musical in 2020 and 2021, performing in kpop masterz by surprise in august and year end countdown in pattaya, thailand in december last year and opportunity to perform in her tv she was the hosting like videostar of mbc every1, fashion n's follow me review on in 2020 and king of masked singer.
not gonna lie a f(x) reunion is so unlikely considering Krystal admitted that she doesn't want to become an idol anymore, Victoria is thriving in China (and knetz kinda don't like her), and Amber and Luna are just doing whatever they're doing.
@@winterdreambell its so sad to see them go their separate ways but im happy that they are happy
it’s so sweet how close jiyoung/nicole have become with youngji despite never overlapping before
my favourite kara song is 100% step. it’s one of my favourite kpop songs of all time and i genuinely think it’s also objectively one of the best kpop songs ever
These girls are amazing, I'm glad they release a comeback on their 15th Anniversary. Rest In Peace, Goo Hara
My top favorite KARA songs are Damaged Lady, Honey, Lupin, Pretty Girl and Rock U and as for my thoughts on When I Move, it's a total 10 out of 10, for me, I just love its mature, classy and sophisticated vibe and it's definitely one of my personally favorite K-pop songs of 2022.
back then i was shocked dsp didnt hold onto nicole as a member. she was very popular in japan. her merch sold out fast but dsp didnt liked her being the center (for once)
do you have any theories why they didn't like Nicole being so popular? you would think they would support someone who is making them so much money
I love hearing about legendary groups and how they came up. I got chills at some moments. Goo Hara will live forever! ❤
she is a forever member and will always be with us and with kara in everything they do ❤️
thank you so much for this video the legacy os kara is so important and their comeback is so powerful and means so much ! everyone needs to watch this
Kara became one of the groups that raised me back in 2009 and i Hara was my favorite member. Seeing them reunite and have a comeback again after all these years made me cry. I still get sad about what happened to Goo Hara. She did not deserve what happened to her, may she rest in peace
KARA win Seoul Music Award for "KPop Special Award" category 👏🏻
Thank you so much for focusing on the positives, and not the... darker parts of their story as much. Watching this was painful enough, but the nostalgia and the happy moments pulled me through. It took me multiple tries to finish this video. I hope we continue to see much more of them in the future
THEY WERE DOING QUEEN SHIT!! POINT, BLANK, PERIOD!! KARA, SNSD & T-ARA in one year? My heart cant take anymore!!
I never actually knew Kara before MAMA of this year and I gotta say When I Move was such a amazing song!! I'll definetly dive into their discography with a lot of excitement!
1:09:16 One of the most heartwarming moment for me. I remembered not feeling welcome to the idea of youngji joining kara. But as I watched her kept promoting herself as Kara and their songs, I slowly changed my opinions about her and felt she was so unfortunate to have such a short time in the team. After the comeback was announced with youngji participated as well, it shows that Kara really included her. Now, I really feel she's great individually and with Kara. Thanks for making this clip, Midnight Theories!
i just got into KARA last year, when Young-ji first joined the group did she get compared to Nicole & Ji-young a lot?
please change the video avatar to another one with Goo Hara in it 😢 Hara is always here with us, our angel.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Kara discography aged so well! I wish I was a kpop stan when they were active, bc I love their songs so much
That 2021? 2022? yt kpop documentary said a bit of Kara hardwork in their daily lives as idol.
Im glad Goo Hara impact influenced a law in SK, may she rest in peace♡
Happy new year, I love you hardwork put in yr videos♡
KARA were responsible for getting me into kpop and they are still my ults to this day, I'm a proud Kamilia! Their partnership with Sweetune is truly legendary, peak kpop synthpop joy! Also, as you mentioned, they are a true symbol of resilience and union after all they went through. I had the privilege of being at their 2013 Tokyo Dome show since I was studying in Japan back then and it was one of the most memorable days in my life. After they parted ways I never thought we'd be getting any new music, so seeing them together again with this comeback has been a dream come true, I've actually cried many times. Also, seeing Youngji finally getting the love and respect she deserves, as well as interacting with the other members in such a fun way, it really is heartwarming.
I love all of their discography, but my favorites are probably Lupin, Pandora, Way (true gem of a b-side), Damaged Lady and Mamma Mia.
Thank you SO much for this beautiful documentary! KARA deserve all the recognition! Hara will always be our perfect angel whose memory will live forever ❤
Well said!!
Lead guitar in cute bubblegum.. Sologuitar and dropbeat in mature theme.. So 🦾💪🦾💪
RIP Goo Hara. You deserved better. Let your story never be forgotten.
could you pls do a history of brown eyed girls? 🥺 they’re one of my fav groups and the one that got me into discovering 2nd gen but it rlly surprises me how they don’t get much recognition in the kpop fandom. they’re def not one of the most popular 2nd gen ggs but they have a lot of iconic songs like abracadabra and sixth sense. i guess i wanna know why they’ve been kinda forgotten except for the occasional abracadabra covers from 3rd and 4th gen groups
So sad that new kpop fans seem to have forgotten about kara. Forever my ult group ❤️
28:18 speaking of bae yoon jung, the choreographer of kara's honey and mister, she's one of mentors of dream maker, a reality global boy group search in the philippines and one of sandara park's acquaintance/friends
58:35 ygx is not a new agency, it is the subsidiary of yg entertainment and eventually, seungyeon joined the main yg entertainment because ygx will focus on managing dancers
my favorite kara song is step
next group to be featured in midnight theories, any second generation group like 4minute, girls generation or snsd, 2ne1 etc.
She never said YGX was new tho?
KARA made history along the other artists of second generation, that´s a fact.
I’ll forever be a 2nd Gen Stan. What a gift KARA have given us. Im so proud ❤
they were legends. ppl don't understand how BIG they were in japan. it was like a fever
I only just got into Kara after When I Move came out. I’ve only listened to a couple of their songs, Mamma Mia and Cupid, and GOD THEY’RE SO GOOD.
I recommend listening to Jumpin’ and Lupin.
Both came out back in 2010 and still slap today! In both Korean and Japanese (also their Japanese discography is nothing but S Tier content, especially Electric Boy).
pandora, damaged lady, starlight, lupin, step, cupid, mister, rock u, and wanna. theres more to check..
personally, i dont think kara had a bad song. just hits after hits.
I also recommend honey
i recommend their japanese discography! specially jet coaster love, eletric boy and do it! do it!
i really recommend you listen to their recent video on "killing voice" where they sang a medley of a bunch of their korean title tracks :)
Happy New Year, and happy 100k. KARA were a big part of my indoctrination into K-pop and I couldn't be happier about their comeback this year. Truly resilient queens who deserve the world.
Thank you for making an hour-long video for kara. Their 15th anniversary comeback is such a blessing.
I got into Kpop in 2011 and when I tell you STEP was one of the most impactful comebacks I have ever seen I mean it. I love Kara so much and I'm a blubbering mess by the end of this video. I supported Youngji for so long and to see her so happy with the other members makes my heart so happy. ♥
seeing them leaving a spot in the ending for hara is so emotional ;w; they were such a big thing in japan that i found them while being a jpop fan and the amount of fan was wild
KARA is one of my absolute favorite K-Pop group and was actually my gateway group. I happened to find their performance of Secret World in late 2007 and instantly became a fan.
Ah Kara, i was in love with their songs, only discovering them during Mamma Mia and after. I was so happy when i saw them together on Mama again 😭
I'm a late Kara fan, but even for me it's bittersweet looking at karas old videos of them interacting and bonding with Sunghee, and after that just completely disappearing off the radar like she was never a part of them. but thats life i guess. friends come and go, its kinda of a sad reality but thats how it is
i wonder if she ever got envious seeing kara becoming that big ever since she left the group. i mean i guess its hard not to
happy new year, midnight theories!!! thank you for this video, many kpop fans would know what kind of history kara did on their peak in kpop < 3
I remember being a Sone but bejng super proud that Kara won with Honey
I love Kara since I first heard their songs when I was in high school. Seeing them together again, especially how much they went through, it got me so emotional. Step, Lupin and Pandora will forever be my favorites.
Such a beautiful depiction + hommage to KARA's History ❤ Thank you !
You really did them justice with this docu. Thanks so much for your effort!
This history is amazing! So much good content that you've assembled here, as well as thoughtful commentary. I'm especially impressed by how you found the radio interview (where Youngji gets really emotional, having toiled alone in representing KARA after disbandment while seeing other girl groups promoting hand in hand) and followed that clip with the scene of them holding hands at the airport (where Youngji looks sooooo excited to be holding hands with her unnies)! Superbly well done 😄
I just got my album a few days ago and I'm so happy. Kara is amazing and I'm so glad to see them together again. Could you please do a video on U-Kiss or Up10tion, or on SS501? I feel like not a lot of people really know about them and SS501 is one of the early 2nd gen boy groups that don't get enough attention.
hara was so stunning and adorable in those vids of her early years in kara! love her sm. seeing this makes me miss cute concepts of the 2nd gen sm (2nd gen in general lololll)
Please do U-Kiss next for your K-Pop history series. I barely see anyone on UA-cam cover them.
2nd generation of k pop had so much talent, they really performed live singing and dancing!
Thanks for the video ❤
I think wonder girls would be a good video to do also since they’ve also had a long successful history and several member changes to discuss!
thank you sooooo much for this documentary, we kamilias appreciate it a lot really
Congrats on the 100k subs!!! I love your videos!! Man to say I cried when they put out those reunion pictures is an understatement as I got into Kara around Youngji’s introduction, so Mamma Mia and Cupid were my first introductions to Kara (and most of the major 2nd gen girl groups started disbanding at that time too). It just makes my heart full to not only see them back in general but to see Youngji with her members again especially with Nicole and Jiyoung. I hope Hara is looking down with a smile on her face cause she would’ve ATE this comeback. My favorite songs from Kara are Mister, Step, Pandora, Mamma Mia and Cupid. Happy New Year!
I was a fan of 2ne1 and at the same time I also loved a lot of Kara's songs. Snsd's songs were nice, too, but for some reason I was drawn to Kara much more. Really sad that Hara is no longer with them, but I know she's in everyone's heart as an eternal member
ETA: This is one of the best works you've released. It was an hour well worth it. I was glued the entire time
KARA is one of the best groups ever. Love you KARA!! 💗💗
Thank you for doing this documentary
there are so many things that they did to bring forth change in the vocal and performance of girl groups that the younger generation may never realize where it came from and to that end this type of video is so important. Another point that could be made, is the competition was fierce during those years with the 3 major groups debuting in the same year, SNSD, Wonder Girls, (KARA 2007) and 1 year later T-ARA - 2 years there was a KPOP explosion one group after another hit the stage many still survive to this day. Lets hope that the industry welcomes them back with open arms --- XOXO
I'm loving this Netflix kinda intro for the groups
wow. i dont think ive ever watched a docunentary this long but before i knew it, an hour passed and i dont feel like stopping it. it is that good. well, im a kamilia so thats one thing. lol
anyway, as much as a fanboy of kara, that fairy ending is just a sore to watch. i remember jiyoung crying coz of being teased in making aegyo expressions. lol
I love KARA so much... and the last 5 months or so have been amazing with the comeback and KARA taking part in a lot of different shows.. Music and variety shows... Such a happy time.. and i hope that we will see and hear much more from KARA in the future.. I hope... I have loved them for a long time and will always do... 💕Kamilia Forever!! 💕💕Gyuri 💕
From a Kamilia in Denmark (HARA will always be in my heart)
Hello midnight 🔮!! I know I’m late commenting but thank u for posting this!! Also I have to say some of my fave Kara songs are Mr, Honey, and Step. OT6 4 ever ❤️
My ultimate bias among 2nd gen girl group. Wish all the best for KARA.
Goo Hara never forgotten. 💕
Excited for anything Re:Kara releases.
12:30 correction: she was a lead dancer at that time, she only turned out to be a main dancer in kara4 formation (2014-2016)
41:25 this is the mv for 'thank you summer love' and not 'go go summer'
Rest in peace Goo Hara. KARA and Kamilias are more united thanks to you.
This is a really good video. You're one of my favorite channels. I'm always glad you're regularly creating interesting videos. Please have a History of UKiss also. I heard they have a crazy story but I can't find any sources like yours. Thank you again.
amazing video thank you so much, hara would have eaten this comeback upppp!!!!!! omg rip
Oh my gosh I for sure did not tear up towards the end of this video 😢😢😢. Kara, along with two other 2nd gen groups, will always hold a special place in my heart, even long after I stop being a k-pop fan.
Thank you for making this video. Much love from your fellow kamilia 💛💛💛.
My favourite Kara tracks are everyone's favourites as well: Mamma Mia, Step, Lupin, Jumping, and Pandora.
I'm not totally enamoured by "When I Move" in and of itself. The song is FAR from being a bad song, but I thought the production really let it down. RBW really should've collaborated with Sweetune for this grand comeback. All in all, "When I Move" is a flat 8/10 for me.
Loved kara. Them and t-ara were my ults back in the day. Id love to see you do a video of u;nee and her backstory.
Kara was one of the 2nd gen groups that introduced me with kpop. I got my very first kpop album and it was STEP album. I feel so happy to see them thriving throughout their long career. I wish nothing but success and happiness to all of them. And rest in peace, Hara... You're always loved and never forgotten ❤️
Somewhere on an old computer exist footage of me doing the butt dance as a teenager. That time in kpop was so iconic and I reminisce sometimes lol
just from kep1er choi yujin’s reaction at mama, you can tell they are revolutionary
Compelling Fascinating informative video on the History and Legacy of the talented girl group Kara. My favorite Kara Song Electric Boy
I really like your editing, i think you use After effect for a lor of things, the voice, the words, the layouts, the clips, the colors, it looks so professional, the intro too
I would love to say thank you for introducing me to baby vox
I’m still sad Sunghee left the group. Her voice was powerful. She was my bias in the original line up.
I'm so grateful that I discovered KPop in 2011, this video made me hella emotional towards tbe end, tearing up a bit aha
❤️❤️❤️
kara will always remain my favorite group no matter what. i started my journey with them and i will end it with them❤️
Can I say that I love them so much. I became a fan of Kara in 2015 maybe 2016 with step even though that step came out a few years earlier but do you know the group some months later they disbanded. I didn't complain about that. But I'm glad I became a fan. I'm glad that they have a comeback after a few years of not being a group together. Rest in peace Hara
Thank you for making me reminiscing my youth,,,, It feels nostalgic ♥
This is gonna be so so so good!
I love your documentaries. Can you make a video about finkl and lee hyori
They are the GIRLS. I always have loved watching them ever since I started being a kpop fan, their MVs always serves and the vocals? Yes yes yes. They are most iconic group and I love how they will forever include Goo Hara in everything they do.
i love your vids about 1-3rd gen. I was really into kpop in the 2nd-3rd and i love anything that reminds me of it
Would love to see a 2NE1 history video! Love your content 🫶🏾
Man, I remember following Kara through Karaholic back in 2010, when they began official Japanese promotions and had 2 minialbums in the same year. It was an unforgettable time to get into kpop.
I don't know much about Kara but mister is one of my favorite kpop songs ever
Before it was SNSD Vs 2NE1 Vs 4Minute it was SNSD Vs Wonder Girls Vs Kara
Lovely video, as always! I am so excited for this rise of Gen 2/4, where Gen 2 groups are showing up and playing with Gen 4. Not only are they holding their own, but so many of the Gen 4 groups are so excited and grateful to get to perform with the very reasons they got into the industry.
You should do Ladies Code. I love them soo much.
i love your videos. i am hoping you eventually cover my favorite group after school.
I would love to see you do a video on Wonder Girls and miss A
even other 2nd gen groups like girls generation, 2ne1, 4minute etc.
I found out about Kara from the DJMax games, and always wondered why their images were so different between their various songs. I now have some background on that. Thank you for making this video!
Youngji is such a sweetheart - I've been watching her on some variety shows and she seems so lovely. Glad she is doing well.
Kara is one of the best kpop groups of all time. They have so many great songs.
I love your videos. There are barely any UA-camrs who recognize second gen groups that made kpop what it is. Personally, I have to go through countless articles, videos, and sources to get a good look at the history of second generation groups, but your videos always make me learn something new about the groups that made me love kpop!
On a more opinionated note, I always thought that adding youngji was a mistake. No hate to her personally, but the decision was overall bad. Kara had been in the industry for a while and was very successful. Adding new members is almost always never a good idea. The best cases are only when groups are when new members join before a group becomes successful. Groups like red velvet, T-ara, 9muses, etc show how damaging it can be. When Nicole and Jiyoung left, they had a long hiatus that was only extended due to Kara Project and adding Youngji. Months in kpop are years in practice. The longer a group is not promoting the less popular sequent comebacks might be. Not only that, almost always new members are severely disliked by fans, especially for popular groups. New members also ways seem to get the short end of the stick because they are more unpopular and less success due to joining the group “late.” Youngji herself is the victim of this as well. Less than two years after joining, Kara disbanded with her solo career not doing well after. Her variety popularity is the only thing she had going for her, but that soon lessened.
Just overall, I think it would have been a better move to promote as three members than going through the trouble of adding someone new. Imagine if they did that with snsd. Fans would have been pissed and the new member would have been torn to shreds.
Really loved this in-depth and detailed video essay about one of the most iconic 2nd-gen girl groups. Discovered them back in '09 during my sophomore year in high school. All my friends were crazy about SNSD and all the other 'more popular' groups (I listened to all of them, too) but I only had my eyes on one particular group, which was and always will be Kara.
To say that these women have been through a lot would be an understatement, and thank you for shedding light unto what had actually transpired during their days with DSP. They really should have received better treatment, given the success they had garnered. But all the hardship they had gone through only makes their comeback/reunion all the more special. I cannot express my gratitude enough that they ACTUALLY got back together. I'm almost 30 and I get so emotional about this, lol.
I didn't have any idea regarding their reunion until a few weeks ago, as I kind of became uninterested in K-Pop altogether and focused more on my other interests. Since then, I haven't stopped watching their old performances and interviews, on top of their recent ones. Kara are back, and they're better than ever. I live for this moment, haha.
Thank you for this. I have been learning more about Kara since their comeback but this really covers a lot.
PS I would recommend anyone to find video’s about Gyuri on variety shows. She was /is hilarious!
I’m happy they’re now under MAMAMOO’s company, I hope it is a turn for the better
