- The Emmy-winning drama, "Downton Abbey," is heading into its third season on PBS, and "Sunday Morning" correspondent Martha Teichner traveled to England last year as it was being filmed for a look at the people behind the hit show.
I had heard of the show many times, but also just recently started watching it. I now own every episode of the first four seasons, and I watch them over and over. I have to laugh when I occasionally find myself thinking in an English accent!

It grows on you, doesn't it? I fell in love from the first episode. The history, the opulence, Julian's masterful plots and script and of course the actors who are brillliant.

you realise their accents aren't actually English, right? english accent's don't exist. there's variations of subregional dialects and the ones toffy ones portrayed in the show aren't actually how people speak lmao
I was lucky to live in the same house in Philadelphia after Elizabeth McGovern moved out. She was there for a while doing stage work. I never met her but saw some pics of this talented and gracious actress during her tenure. I would LOVE to meet her one day.

Sue Harvey sometimes I see my grandmother reincarnated when I watch the Dowager Countess. Partly the personality and partly because they lived at similar times and had very similar meaning of life.

She is my lady but she is never Lady Cora
She's Lady Grantham: Cora, The Countess of Grantham. The title of Lady before a name, eg Lady Mary, is only given to the daughters of Dukes, Marquesses and Earls.

I'm not a fashion guy but some of the outfits the ladies wore were gorgeous. As to the men, some of their outfits were quite dapper. I could see myself in Henry Tolliver's wedding tux if I ever marry again. What I would LOVE to hijack was their burgundy and black limo. Classic automobile.

In any of the episodes, there has been no murder.Bates has not been accused of killing Green, only his wife, and that was a suicide.

Iggy....I love them both but my appreciation for Dame Maggie is acting. With Shirley it’s more her books. I think she is a gifted actress and writer. But you are correct about Maggie. She is a legend. The interview where she talks about not being able to go out without being recognized after Downton... I would have thought that would have been true a long time ago!
My favorite show, after Grand Hotel.
I’m English and I watched Grand Hotel with subtitles. It was very good but it doesn’t come close to Downton. Also the theme tune was a Downton rip-off.
Those American voices really grate !
