The man is all class. In 2012 he was in New Zealand, filming The Hobbit and learned that the Theatre Royal in Christchurch, which had been badly damaged in the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes, was going to be repaired. So, in May and June 2012, he created and took his one-man show Shakespeare, Tolkien and You around New Zealand performing fifteen sold out shows and single-handedly raising more than $350,000 for the theatre. The tour culminated at a packed Opera House in Wellington attended by the cast members of The Hobbit trilogy who ‘shook buckets’ at the exits collecting more than $11,000 in further donations.
I saw the theatre several months after the wrecked buildings each side of it had been cleared away and laughed out loud when I saw what had been playing at the time of the earthquake. It was, and I quote from the poster: "Monty Python's Spamalot. A New Musical Lovingly Ripped Off From The Motion Picture MONTY PYTHON And The Holy Grail".
Across the top of the poster was "...always look on the bright side of life..."
On 17 November 2014, after a $40 million restoration, the Theatre Royal reopened. Thank you, Sir Ian.

Reminds me of the time that Sir Alec Guinness was on (I believe) The David Letterman Show and Dave got him to say the line, "The Force shall be with you....always." It was totally awesome.
