Sorry I'm a bit late to the party. But if I want to swap out the 1600x on my Asus b450 motherboard for a 5600x will I be able to update the bios and still use the old 1600 until I'm ready to swap. Or does the update and the cpu swap need to happen at the same time?
My friend did, the exact same setup, first time round it worked fine but the BIOS didn't update, despite installing and rebooting from the BIOS. So he tried it again and now the PC turns on, but he's stuck with a black screen. Any ideas? he's using a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and a B450 AORUS PRO.
If you’re starting a fresh build with a b450 and a ryzen 5600x, how do you update the bios? My understand is your rig is already up and running on a older ryzen chip so you’re able to access the website and get the drivers. But what about starting fresh?
In that case you would need a CPU that's already compatible to install in the motherboard in order to update the BIOS and then swap with the 5600X. However depending what B450 motherboard you have it could have a feature called BIOS flashback which allows you to update the BIOS without a CPU installed. At this point though there's a strong chance that buying a new B450 motherboard today will already have the up to date BIOS as it's been nearly 2 years since Ryzen 5000 series launched now.
@@PCJack Thank you for this insight! Final parts for the build arrive in the next coming days. I’ll touch back here and let you know how things went! Thanks again! This really was helpful!

Hey! Yeah if you ensure to download and install the latest BIOS update from Gigabyte's support page for the Aorus B450 Elite then it should allow you to boot with your 5600X 👍
Hello Jack, I have swapped over from a 2600x to a 5800x but after boot up and exit the BIOS I see a message that says: We detected a new processor which will change the data of the storage space for firmware TPM. Then it gives me the option to press Y to reset ftpm or N to keep previous ftpm. No idea what to do here, your help would be greatly appreciated.
Never had that message with a CPU swap before tbh. From what I can see online it could be that Windows has encrypted your OS due to your original TPM settings maybe. I'd take a look and see if you can find any recovery key for it to resolve the issue 👍
did you do this with everything plugged in and with your old cpu attached or did you take everything off and have a blank motherboard. Also is there a verison for windows 11?
The BIOS was updated with the old CPU installed and fully powered on. I haven't checked the BIOS revisions for this motherboard in a long time so I wouldn't know if there's any additional support for Windows 11 but besides TPM 2.0 support, a BIOS update just for Windows 11 isn't usually necessary.

Hey man! I just meant more so to unplug it if you downloaded the BIOS update on a different PC to the one you're updating. If you download the update on the same system you're updating the BIOS of then as long as your USB stick is plugged into the appropriate USB port for BIOS updates then that's fine. You still need to update the BIOS first though, ensure the update was successful and then you can install your new CPU 👍

you can update bios straight from your downloads folder without using the Qflash drive or anything, and is much easier...idk why i can't find ant videos on that method. if you're upgrading from say, 3000 to 5000 series you're going to have the cpu already installed so why don't we do that?! lol

I was planning to upgrade my 2600x to a 5600 in the near future, with the recent BIOS update showing compatibility for it on official page sometime in August.
I have a msi B450M Bazooka V2.
The recent BIOS download shows the AGESA 1.2.0.7 update.
You think I’d be good and able to boot on a 2600x if I update it?
Or should I wait until I get the 5600 then try updating the bios in case it doesn’t boot?
I’ve heard a lot of people having troubles with not being able to boot on older Ryzen CPUs in the past with new bios updates supporting Ryzen 5000.

Hello Jack,
I have swapped over from a 2600x to a 5800x but after boot up and exit the BIOS I see a message that says: We detected a new processor which will change the data of the storage space for firmware TPM.
Thanks for your reply. I reset ftpm and it seems to have worked.

did you do this with everything plugged in and with your old cpu attached or did you take everything off and have a blank motherboard.

So you mentioned taking out the usb and then plugging it into the system I'm updating the bios on. Sorry if I'm being dumb, am I then taking out the usb, taking my PC apart, fitting the new cpu, then upon booting, inserting the usb again to update the bios?
Reason I'm asking is because you said in a reply to someone else that you did it all on the same system with the old cpu still installed. Cheers
