Seeing Candace looking at the boys smiling when they come back for her and then she runs off crying and saying how ashamed she is for mistreating the boys was honestly the first time I ever got choked up at a Phineas and Ferb scene because it feels so earned having watched the show for so long. And what’s even just as earned is the way they reassure Candace by reminding her of the times she did have fun with them and that she added to their summer fun. It’s absolutely my favorite scene in the movie and even one of my favorite P&F scenes.
I think it's fair to call it the most emotional scene in the entire franchise. It's very difficult to not tear up at such a beautiful and, as you said, perfectly earned moment. Danny Jacob's score also really helps push it over the top.
@@epicmichael525 I think in general Disney TVA has been absolutely killing it and I've really enjoyed watching all of those shows. I think for now I'd say The Owl House thanks in particular to some real standout episodes near the end of Season 1, but Della Duck is pretty great. More Della please.
Honestly that scene is one of many that confirms that this takes place very close to the end of the series in a subtle way. The last time Candace had an outburst like that regarding her brothers was in the clip show episode and that was after Phineas gave a birthday speech. Candace was all but willing to get Phineas in trouble on his birthday and it took a speech to bring her out of it and have her burst into tears. That one was about what she could potentially have done, sure, but she desired to do a hell of a lot worse that what she actually did in this film (which was rudely tell Phineas and Ferb that she likes being on this planet as oppossed to at home). It shows you how Candace has matured emotionally, enough to where she'd have the realisation all on her own that merely stating that she doesn't want to be around her brothers anymore was a terrible thing to do.
As a little boy, I never thought I'd identify with the teenaged Ashley Tisdale cartoon character, but here I am at 22. I'd like to see this get a theatrical release after the pandemic.
This is an excellent analysis. It really explains why I teared up whenever we saw Perry dancing in the shadows along with the group, and also when they said “we win“.
Another fantastic video and analysis. I can't believe I never noticed until you pointed it out how meaningful SSBD naming her plant "Mama" is to strengthening the parallels between her and Candace. SSBD really is just a version of Candace who achieved her goals without realizing how flawed they were along the way. God this movie is genius.
I'm so glad you liked it, Andrew! Yeah, it's so obvious in hindsight I couldn't believe I didn't figure it out immediately! It's a very tried-and-true style for the antagonist to reflect the protagonist, but they did it in a way that was more metaphoric and otherworldly. Such a great movie.
Candance’s arc in this movie actually reminds me of Edmunds’ from Narnia. Both are in a bad state of mind in the beginning, meets the villain who gives them everything they ever desired, betray their family, realize they are nothing more than a means to an end to the villain, feel ashamed for what they did, are rescued and forgiven by their family, become a key to beating the villain, and hailed as a hero in the end.
@@Fallingwithstyle1995 it reminds me of Luke from Thomas and Friends. He was so scared of being sent away in Blue Mountain Mystery, hence his feeling that the universe was against him until the end of the film.

This was another great Phineas and Ferb analysis! This movie is a great feel-good movie, and I enjoyed the deeper look in Candace's character throughout it. The emotional climax of the movie where she receives the coffee mug is honestly a top 5 Phineas and Ferb moment for me; it was really powerful when I watched it for the time, especially seeing all the scenes from the show in this new context the movie gives them. These past two videos have encouraged me to subscribe; keep up the good work! As a side note, the music in this movie is superb; Such a Beautiful Day and Adulting are absolute bangers.
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing! That scene with the mug is INCREDIBLY well-done and earned. The music in this series always amazes me!
@@Fallingwithstyle1995 the music is certainly the most iconic part of the show; Busted will forever be my favourite song in the series, but there are so many bangers throughout the show. Gotta say. You have released some fantastic analysis’s on this franchise. Glad to see others see the take away of this movie for the great film that it is. Keep up the great work!!!
My only problem with this movie is that because it's made after the orignal show's run it doesn't carry over to the show All of the amazing stuff with Candace's ark, realizing that she does matter in the universe isn't carried in the show I guess the characters got there mind erased again. The ending gag does show that everyone hears Monogram when Perry comes back
Thank you someone said it! Candace doesn't need her Mom's respect because respect goes both ways! Her mom is awful which I wished they addressed treating Candace horribly by putting in her little jabs like She's exhausting or great comedy gold for her stand up of her crazy daughter. And her little concern over her daughter having an allergic reaction to parsnips! Sadly a lot of us don't get that same recognition but there are other people in Candace's life who believe and love her and respect her.
"It doesn't seem like the kind of title that's gonna leave you lying awake at night pondering your place in the world while you cry, right?" "Well you're WRONG!" *voice crack*
Your breakdowns and analysis of every single thing you cover are absolutely genius. If this movie was all there was in the Phineas and Ferb canon, this analysis would be pretty compelling. But considering the context of the show and the other special/films, Candace's motivation and drama feel really contrived. Vanessa's therapy seems really out of nowhere as both she and Candace have wanted to bust and neither one has ever in the show indicated it is because they fell insignificant in the universe. Why does Vanessa not tell Candace that she used to feel the same and proceed from there? What made Vanessa stop busting Doof? Did Vanessa feel insignificant in the universe? How did she resolve it? There is not enough work put into this plot point to be convincing. Candace just sort of forgets all the times in the show when either Phineas and Ferb specifically focus their inventions to help her (or to specifically recognize her in the Mom's birthday episode), when she hijacks their existing projects to benefit her, when she looks the other way because of a different priority, or when she participates like in the skiddly whiffers and then tries to bust them later. The ending feels really hollow to me as when Candace has the opportunity to "bust" the boys, what would her mom actually see? Piles of wreckage from an alien invasion the boys had nothing to do with. You could argue that she would see the remains of the mechs the kids build but they were pretty well destroyed. Surely her mom would find out about the invasion, the aliens are literally arrested and everyone will remember since there is no mind wipe like in 2nd Dimension. The problem with Candace's arc is it feels like a complete retcon of what came before and it is essentially reconned by the show's finale as Candace reverts to pre - CATU Candace at the beginning of the finale.
