  • In this Inkscape tutorial, we'll learn some nuances of the Paint Bucket Tool and how to use it to quickly fill in line art with color. We'll learn how to fill in line art we create in Inkscape, as well as line art from an imported image, with the help of the Trace Bitmap Dialog. We'll also learn how to use multiple layers.

I finally got this down thanks for sharing. For some reason no layer was showing up in the layers menu so had to manually add them. After that the border around the art would not show up. So I installed the latest version of Inkscape.
After that same thing happened, the border line around the art wouldn't show up then the colors on the art wouldn't show up.
Turns out the alpha channel slider was set with too much transparency on it.

Ah, the alpha channel slider. Seems to be the most common source of problems I get asked about.

Great! How do you fill the small gaps (starting at 08:35) so that they become part of the large, already filled area? Do you have to select the already filled area first? Thanks for a quick tip!

Doesn't matter what I do when i go around the box on all four corners using the snapping tool and pin tool I click on the first one and it makes the box go grey and the pin tool wont release and ends up going all around the page? I am doing exactly as you are and no different so why wont it cancel when i click on the last point please

Hello, I'm having a problem. Did the tracemap on a png, got my layer. Then, like you did, created a new layer called Colors. The problem is, when I go to select the bucket tool, it remains gray even though I'm choosing a color.

Make sure you have gray scale mode turned off (uncheck "Gray Scale" under the View menu). Are you able to create shapes and give them different colors?
